Best way to get to and from Milford Sound and see the Sites

The flight from Queenstown to Milford Sound is the best way to there and back in half a day. Other patrons took the coach and said never again. The aircraft takes you over the mountains (close) and is unbelievable; taking you over Milford Sound before landing. On the way back we went the length of Lake Whakatitu and past the Remarkables. The cruise is nice ans offers a close up to the waterfalls, etc and compliments the flight well. The pilot (Andrew) was great and very knowledgeable. We were delivered back to our hotel by the company in good time. At great overall experience.

Milford sound was absolutely incredible, and our tour guide, Allegra, made the day even better!!! plenty of stops, great stories, and anecdotes, once in a lifetime scenery, perfect cruise, and Allegra was a great driver… Patient… Engaging… And a five star representative of the company… super personable and warm…she loved talking to all the guests…. very evident that she loves her job… My wife and I loved her!! Turquoise blue waterfalls, an exhilarating tunnel, tropical birds, and scenery that simply made your jaw drop around every corner. Also, they provided a gluten-free lunch for my wife who is celiac… And it was perfect. 10 out of 10… Incredible guide, and incredible tour!!!

Best tour of the trip

It was an incredible and unexpected experience that I wouldn’t want to spoil. I love that. The tour begins at 1:30 PM, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that you’ll visit more Lord of the Rings sites than you anticipated. We did luck out because there was traffic stopped by sheep crossing lol! Amy is very knowledgeable and very friendly! We love her!

Worthwhile adventure!

Full day, worthwhile experience. Our coach driver provided some interesting narrative on the ride to Milford. There was a short stop at Te Anu to stretch our legs and grab a cuppa. We experienced all kinds of weather in the sound, so pack accordingly. Lunch was tasty and enough. Beautiful adventure!

Exceeded expectations. Loved it

As a New Zealander, I had always avoided experiences that included meals, thinking “Tourist trap” and substandard food etc . A couple of friends and family members have been on trip and recommended so we went. I loved the experience of cruising on the historic steamer and seeing a different view of the mountains. The food was exceptional! Good quality meats and plenty of variety for veges and sides. All helped by a very organised set up and staff that made the buffet very civilised and pleasant. Although the farm show was not new to us, it wasn’t too long and was very well presented. It’s also fun to be amongst tourists in the audience who have never seen sheep shorn and farm dogs at work.

I’m surprised how so many visitors in Queenstown wanting to visit Milford Sound are not taking advantage of this opportunity and booking this excursion in advance. Are you willing to drive or ride a shuttle for +5 hours? Why not fly there instead and make a pit spot to touch some snow? Our pilot was Kurt and he was hands down very welcoming, professional, and engaged with ensuring that his passengers were safe and getting the best experience possible, weather permitting of course. The process of transitioning from helicopter to the cruise was very smooth and hassle free. We went to Milford Sound in the afternoon and we were very fortunate to have two close sightings of dolphins. It’s best to visit Milford Sound after heavy rainfall to see multiple active waterfalls. If NZ is in a dry spell, it’s still worth a visit especially with the Glacier Helicopters company. You won’t be disappointed!

After all the health and safety checks have been completed the real action began. After being geared up the plane ride to the jump takes about 15 mins which was a good ride with views of the lake and mt remarkable ranges. The jump it self takes about 5 mins till you reach the ground. I had a good instructor who made me feel calm. The free fall is so quick it finished before I could take it all in and the landing was so smooth.

Great was to see Milford Sound with limited time commitment

Great way to see Milford Sound in an afternoon, particularly if longer bus rides are not your thing. One ~30-minute flight to the sound, boat cruise and one ~30-minute flight back. Breathtaking views of the Sound and mountain ranges from above, coupled with a relaxing boat cruise through the fjord. We didn’t take advantage of the food onboard (but lovely to have seats reserved for our flight group), but did partake of a glass of wine and free coffee. Our pilot, Isabel was fantastic — great flier and tour guide, and our plane was comfortable and quiet. Pick up and drop-off from Queenstown was also a breeze.
