What are people saying about Auckland

We enjoyed this trip from...
We enjoyed this trip from the moment Aaron picked up Us at the hotel. While driving he gave us many informations about NZ, its population, vegetation, food, great places to visit. The all day was well organized with the right time at each place. The discovery of geysers and of the Māori culture will stay a great memory.

An Auckland must do
With a couple of extra days in Auckland I had asked on FB for recommendations on what to do. A couple of contributors replied that this was an absolute "must do". We duly booked it for the afternoon of our arrival. With glorious sunny weather it seemed we were all set for a memorable afternoon. Unfortunately when we turned up we were advised that due to winds it would not go ahead. Clearly safety was of utmost importance so gold star for that. We were offered the opportunity to receive a refund or to rearrange. Staff at the desk went out of their way to assist us. We were lucky enough to be able to rearrange and for the sail to go ahead. And it was certainly a memorable one for our last day in Auckland I think the yacht can take 30 passengers but i don't think there was a full contingent. The crew were friendly whilst at the same time being professional. Safety procedure were clearly explained to us. The crew explained the history of the yacht to us and engaged with us continually. There is an opportunity to actually help with crewing the yacht and it was certainly tempting to .join in. However we just took the opportunity to sit back and enjoy an exhilarating experience. It might not be the cheapest of experiences but we loved every minute and were so glad we did it.

A delightful day!
It was a very nice tour! The driver was friendly, knowledgeable and a safe driver, and she gave us enough times/opportunities to use restrooms and/or stretch our legs. Not directly connected with the tour company, Hobbiton is wonderful for both fans and non-fans of LOTR - a little more time inside the hobbit home would have been nice though. Waitomo Caves was quite amazing too, but my wife was a little disappointed that the time/scale of the boat tour was relatively short. I understand that the Maori people may see the caves and sacred and thus prohibit photos/videos, but it doesn't ring true to then see photos of them all over the internet, presumably taken by pro photographers with the knowledge of the Maori. This is a common complaint I have about such places, for example the Sistine Chapel and its aggressively hostile guards shouting "No photos!" at tourists, who then are funneled to gift shops featuring photos of the very same place. I'm sorry to vent, but it might be good to realize that you won't be able to take pictures inside all but the very outer stretches of Waitomo Caves. That being said, the Maori guides are friendly and funny, and it is a very unique thing to see. Both Hobbiton and Waitomo are definitely recommended overall, as is the tour company.

With its sparkling harbors, soaring skyline, and active hiking trails, Auckland (or Tāmaki Makaurau) is a city made for adventure. Many Auckland tours take you to popular destinations around the North Island, such as the Hobbiton Movie Set, Kumeu Wine Country, and Waitomo Caves. But stick around, and you’ll find that there’s plenty to do in the city itself, from food tours and the Sky Tower to sea kayaking and Waitemata Harbour cruises.
