Overview
Head out of Auckland to take in two of the region’s most popular tourist attractions on this full-day coach tour. First, head to the Hobbiton Movie Set for a detailed exploration of the permanent set rebuilt for the Hobbit movies. Hands down best experience, my husband is obsessed with Lord of the Rings this was originally for him, but I injoyed just as much as he did. The waitomo caves were beautiful. Would absolutely do again

Our family loved every minute of this tour! Hobbiton and the Glowworm Caves were absolutely stunning—truly magical experiences. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, the transportation comfortable, and the van well-equipped. An amazing day from start to finish!

It's an early rise for a 6:30am pickup but the tour ran smoothly. At the Hobbiton and the caves, the actual tours were conducted by those managing the sites not FlexiTour. The tour fee you'll be paying beyond the entry fees for the Hobbiton and the cave are in effect paid for the transport and the driver's commentary. In this respect, the coach was spacious and the driver was informative, creative and nice. It was good that the guide decided to show us some extra attractions as an alternative to us waiting an hour for the caves tour.
I must say that the tour is on the pricier side compared to other similar tours for the Hobbiton and the caves. The tour also stops at the Hobbiton first before the caves, meaning that if you intend to be dropped off at Rotorua after the caves there's a bit of extended journey time. You may need also need to finish your Hobbiton lunch relatively swiftly as there is not much time for seconds.
Overall, however, it is a pleasant experience for those who don't drive and want to join a tour where everything is sorted out for you.

FlexiToursNZ provided us with a great professional knowledgeable driver/tour guide LOUIS who shared us lots of informations/history/stories during our 2.5 hour drive to Hobbiton movie set/Cave & Swing bridge.
I was impressed how organized the tour of the Hobbiton movie set was .

Everything went smooth. One of the drivers was very asocial, the other was very nice and funny, but both are not tour guides, so don't expect much info from them. You get 15-20 min at Hobbiton cafe to have coffee/breakfast. Hobbiton is a beautiful place, the guide was funny and informative! For lunch there was a buffet, plenty of food (don't get the cider, it tastes like vinegar). The Waitomo Caves with the boat ride were also really nice, the guide was also very informative, but it felt a bit too short, I wish we had more time there. In general these are must-do experiences, but at both Hobbiton and Waitomo I felt like on a conveyor - there are groups just in front and behind you, so the tours felt rushed because the next group is coming and you don't have time to wander around or go back. If I had more time, I would have stayed somewhere around and done the Black Water Rafting in Waitomo.

The Glowworm caves are a fantastical phenomenon of nature, almost magical, certainly worth seeing!
For fans of the Hobbit and LOTR, Hobbiton is a MUST SEE! This is an incredible experience! You feel as if you’re going to see Bilbo and Frodo run through the shire and pop up any minute in their hobbit hole! So realistic and true to the films! You can touch and sit on the furniture, explore each room! The location is beautiful as in the movie.. worth every minute in the shire! Just amazing!

It was an amazing experience! Like really being inside the movie but better! The caves were also so incredible! But I have to say that our guide Edison made all the difference, from picking us up early with a great energy and kindness to making everything else very easy and smooth! He would answer every question explaining it so well and easy that was pure joy!

Vans were clean and our guides were knowledgeable about how the ticket system worked. It can be tricky as the ticket times are exact and not flexible. We swapped vans as we were ending up in different places and our guide introduced us to our new driver and transferred our bags. Completely recommend the tour as the sites book up in advance. We booked late and it was the only way to see any of these sites. Great day out 👍

We had a fantastic day out at Hobbiton and Waitomo Glow worm caves. Daryl our driver for the day provided interesting commentary about NZ during our drive. Hobbiton was the highlight as fans from the franchise and lunch we had there was excellent.

Kathy picked us up in Rotorua and brought us to Hobbiton to join Edson’s van. The transfer was seamless. The Hobbiton tour was excellent. It feet like being in a different world and a truly immersive experience especially inside the hobbit holes. Waitomo glow worm cave was amazing and fascinating. Both are must-do activities.
