They sold us tickets for a time that was unavailable. They called the day before to tell me this, then said I could pick another time and wouldn't get a refund. I could not do another time I told them. The man said I would get a refund because they were offering me another time or go see the colloseium. Just crazy to sell something you dont have and not offer a full refund and apology. This obviously ruined our plans and schedule.

Dear Lisa,
Thank you for your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the scheduling conflict that disrupted your plans in Rome. St. Peter’s Basilica has incredibly strict and limited availability on Sundays, and due to a temporary synchronization error on our booking calendar, the time slot you requested was unfortunately left open.
As soon as we realized the error, we proactively reached out to you the day before to find an alternative that would save your day—including offering alternative times or a tour. When those options did not align with your schedule, we immediately processed and approved a 100% full refund via Viator.
While we completely understand and validate your frustration regarding the scheduling mistake, we always aim to handle these rare situations with transparency and solutions. We genuinely wish your experience had been different, and we wish you the best in your future travels.

I was excited about this tour as it included the elevator admission that I wrongly assumed made the experience more accessible. It wasn’t until someone else entirely informed me that even with the elevator, there are 150 more stone steps up to the top of the Basilica that I realized how wrong I was. I walk with a cane and there was no way I was going to be able to go up and down 300 stone steps. I feel like these are details that should be highlighted in the tour information on the Viatour App. I was going to make a go of it but our taxi dropped us off on the opposite side of the square. Between the cane and the cobblestones, we missed our entry time. The tour operator has a no refund policy so I’m out the expense. Had I known this particular tour included 300 stair steps, I would not have booked it.

Dear Lorna,
We are sorry to hear that you were unable to experience the tour, but we must clarify several points regarding how this monument operates to ensure future travelers have accurate information.
First, regarding the stairs: St. Peter’s Basilica is a 16th-century historic monument. The official Vatican operated elevator only travels from the ground to the terrace level. This allows guests with limited mobility to enjoy the sweeping views from the roof and look down into the Basilica's interior without climbing the initial 231 steps. However, it is an unalterable structural reality that reaching the absolute summit (the lantern) requires climbing the narrow inner dome steps. No operator can change the physical architecture of the Vatican. Many guests with canes take the elevator to the terrace and enjoy a wonderful, accessible experience there without ever climbing the final steps.
Second, regarding your taxi drop-off: St. Peter’s Square is a heavily fortified pedestrian zone. By international and municipal law, no taxis, private drivers, or tour operators are permitted to drive inside the square. All vehicles must drop passengers off at the designated traffic borders. Navigating the cobblestones from the legal drop-off points to the security checkpoint requires extra time, which is why arriving early is standard practice for visiting Vatican City.
Because we successfully purchased your official, non-refundable Vatican tickets and provided the audio guides for your exact time slot, we fulfilled our service completely. when a guest misses their timed entry due to taxi routes or a misunderstanding of a historic monument's physical structure. We wish you the best in the rest of your travels
