Dave’s tour was the highlight of my Taipei trip! Dave is personable and we connected like friends as we shared each other’s life story. And in between all that, we strolled the historic streets of Dihua experiencing its history and sampling food that I would never think of trying. I also felt like a VIP as delicious food after food is handed to me!

Great. Love the opportunity to explore the markets. It was just me alone so felt like a private tour.

Great tour with Dave and Jessica - highly recommend! We tried many different and unique foods that we wouldn’t have otherwise tried, including the stinky tofu (which was surprisingly tasty) and learned so much on this tour.

I tried 14 different foods, many of which I would never have tried on my own. It was very good and informative.

An authentic Taipei food experience - local foods in a busy local market. Dave also provided commentary on the culture and history of the area.

Dave was a considerate tour guide and we had twelve tasting including a tea. The dishes were the following. He was able to accommodate nut and seafood allergy from two guests. We had 12 people. A large group
- pork blood cake. Not as bad as it sounds
- braised pork rice with braised tofu and green veggie on the side
- stinky tofu very tame
- grass jelly tea
- gua bao with pork belly
- wheel pie with custard cream
- scallion cake too oily - cooked in same oil as shrimp cakes. So no good for my daughter with seafood allergy
- peanut roll with ice cream
- sweet potato balls - airy mochi balls
- tiny shot of Chinese liquor - 38% alcohol. Nice finish and surprise
Overall a nice walk around dihua neighborhood and end in ningxia market
$50 a person is a bit pricey since the food probably only cost about $10-12 total but it’s nice to meet people from Australia, England and America and hear a little explanation of the food and also stop by a temple in the middle. He also lead us to fairly clean bathroom during tour. Very helpful since I had to go twice. Overall we liked it

We had a very nice guide and got on well with him. His English was perfect and he was very personable. We were the only two people on this tour, but this was not a problem.
On balance,it was not good value. The itinerary was not very interesting, visiting some small vendors that offered foods, such as "stinky tofu" that were not likely to be to the taste of western visitors. There was only one drink on the whole three hour tour and the temperature was 30+ degrees.
I think that the advertising and the price build expectations that were not met.
By comparison,my wife and I ate in a top quality, beautiful teppanyaki restaurant the night before for little more than the cost of this tour.
I think the tour needs to be rethought.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback, and we’re genuinely sorry that the tour did not meet your expectations.
We always aim to create an enjoyable and memorable experience for all of our guests, and while we do our best to cater to different preferences, in this case we clearly fell short, and we sincerely apologise for that.
Please send us a quick message at info@foodapest.net and we would be happy to arrange a full refund to make up for your experience.
Just as a small note for you and future guests: as you mentioned, some of the dishes may not suit every Western palate. Our tour is specifically designed to showcase authentic Taiwanese street food and give guests a taste of truly local dishes such as iconic stinky tofu, braised noodles, and other specialties that are unique to Taiwan and difficult to experience elsewhere.
As the tour includes multiple street food vendors and more than 12 different flavours and tastings, our goal is always to create a memorable local food experience and share the real character of Taiwanese food culture.
Hey Tony! Thank you again for your honest feedback. We really appreciate it, and we hope we may have the chance to welcome you again in the future.

This was a great tour to experience Taiwanese food including desserts and alcohol. Our tour guide Corrine was amazing. She added in a couple of stops at temples and shared historical information. She also showed us some of the ancient architecture. Great tour.

A great experience - great knowledge and many different tastings. Would do again with no hesitation.

David was a great tour guide. He was very interesting and informative. Lots of very different tastings that you will only find in Taiwan.

This is a must do tour in Taipei for anyone who loves local food and culture. David expertly guided us around street food markets and stalls, and we had delicious tastings of local foods that I never would’ve found on my own. It was the perfect length and we ate plenty. I really feel I got to know the local cuisine. David also told us about history and culture and we stopped at a local temple along the way where he explained the customs. I learned so much and I had a wonderful time. David’s English is fluent and he was a delightful guide. I 100% recommend this tour!

We had a fantastic tour with Corrine for our first night in Taipei! She was very kind and personable, and clearly very knowledgeable about the local food as someone who grew up there. Beyond the food, we also learned some tidbits about other cultural and historical aspects of Taipei. Would highly recommend this tour and guide!

Fantastic guide with local experience. Very accommodating and knowledgeable. I had a wonderful time learning from Dave about the food we were trying. The oyster frittata was just so great. Never tasted anything like it. Highly recommended tour!

Great food tasting experience that left me full by the end! Corrine was also very easy to talk to and personable. I also found it funny how she kept a bottle of alcohol in her bag to try at the end. Would recommend to any foodie going to Taiwan!

I joined this food tour in Taipei and really enjoyed the experience. The guides were friendly and provided just the right amount of background about the history and culture connected to each dish. We sampled a range of local foods, both savory and sweet, while walking through a historical area. There was plenty to eat—enough that lunch wasn’t necessary afterward. The tour was also flexible with dietary restrictions; they were able to adjust a few dishes as needed. It’s a well-organized way to explore Taipei’s food scene and learn a bit along the way.

I had a fantastic time on this food tour in Taipei City. We tried a wide range of delicious local dishes, and I learned so much about Taiwanese food culture and history along the way. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience fun and engaging.

This was a great tour. It was more than just a food tour, as it offered some history and culture as well. The guides Dave and Corrine were very knowledgeable and helpful. After the tour, my husband wanted to get a haircut. They came with us to the barbershop and let them know what type of cut my husband wanted. Excellent service and a fun experience. I thought the tour was a good value for what I paid and would recommend it.
Valerie_L, Mar 2026
Walking through the shopping district with Dave was an educational, gastronomical and spiritual journey. He took us to places that were not your typical Chinese food, but were where the locals eat. Along the way, he spoke about the city, culture and customs. We even went to a temple and he explained how to pray, and what steps to ensure your prayers get heard. Dave is a seasoned, experienced guide. It was first visit to Taiwan for us, and he didn’t sound bored or repetitious, even though he took another group out to the same places the previous day. It was a unique experience and I sampled enough food to be full. Definitely something to do if you’re a foodie. (Note: the photo provided is not one of the foods we sampled).

Good walking tour but somewhat disappointing with the food offerred. None came close to what the food in the website pictures show and only offerred 7 small quantities and selections vs what was advertised 12+. Most of all, serving small portions and still asked to share? What a let down. I suggest going on your own.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Dear Victor,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations.
The tour is designed to introduce our guests to a variety of authentic local Taiwanese dishes around the district, sampling dishes along the way while learning about the neighborhood’s food culture and stories. The “12+ tastings” mentioned in the listing refers to individual items rather than the number of stops, where in some occasion we try several different specialties from the same vendor. Portions are served tasting-style across some of our stops so that guests can try a range of different food items without becoming overly full too early in the tour.
That said, we completely understand that expectations can differ, and we’re sorry that the experience felt underwhelming compared to what you anticipated. We take feedbacks from our guests seriously and will review how the experience and tastings are communicated on our page to ensure it is as clear as possible for future guests.
As a gesture of goodwill, we would be happy to offer a full refund for your booking.
Please email us at dave@foodaquest.com with your reservation number and we will process it right away.
Thank you again for your feedback, and we wish you a wonderful rest of your travels.
Warm regards,
Dave & the Foodaquest Team

If you are looking for a taste of the local fare and to experience the local markets like a local, this is the tour for you. My friend and I wanted to try some street food with the guidance of a local and also hear a bit about the culture. Dave’s tour provided exactly that! We visited 3 street markets, tried a number of interesting local bites, saw some extra sights along the way and heard some fun facts about Taipei. Plus, at the end of the tour Dave surprised us with an extra treat. Thanks Dave for a terrific tour!

I had an absolutely fantastic time on this food tour! Our guide, Dave, was just amazing, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. We sampled so much food, more than we could eat! The entire tour was really well-organized and a truly enjoyable experience.

Dave was truly one of the best tour guides I’ve had anywhere. He’s warm, friendly, incredibly accommodating, and genuinely curious about his guests, which made the whole experience feel personal and relaxed. You can tell he really cares about making sure everyone is enjoying themselves and trying new things.
The variety of food was excellent — lots of tasty local treats and a great balance of flavors and experiences. The pacing felt perfect, and the whole tour was fun from start to finish.
I had seen all the other 5-star reviews about Dave before booking, and I can honestly say they were completely accurate. Highly recommend this tour if you want a memorable, authentic, and enjoyable food experience.
