We met the driver and tour guide Martin at the fountain. He was wearing a bright yellow vest, which made him very visible. The tour was informative and Martin had a great sense of humor! Would book this again.

An easy, affordable and quick introduction to Sydney.

saul_r, Apr 2026
An easy, affordable and quick introduction to Sydney. Our driver was caring and knowledgeable, we highly recommend it

Good Driver

HOWARD_H, Apr 2026
Excellent guide he very informative and gave us clear and concise instructions on what to do when we left the bus he gave excellent commentary on the sites

Nice Overview of Sydney

Patricia_H, Apr 2026
Very nice overview of Sydney in a short period of time. Let's you know where you might like to go back to. Driver gave alot of good information about each area. Where to eat and buy things.

Heavy Accent

Preston_S, Mar 2026
Bus was over crowded. The driver was from Russia and had a very heavy accent and could only understand about 1/2 of what he was saying.

Response from Host, Apr 2026

English is spoken with a wide range of accents. There are estimated to be more than 180 different English accents around the world. In many situations, if someone’s accent feels strong to you, yours may feel just as strong to them. Communication between people with different accents often takes a small, conscious effort from both sides to tune in and understand each other. Reviews like that often come from people who assume their accent = the “correct” English, which simply isn’t true. In a country like Australia, and in tourism generally, guests regularly hear guides from different English-speaking backgrounds (Australian, British, South African, Irish, etc.). Expecting everyone to sound like one country’s version of English is unrealistic.

Get driver who speaks English for an English Tour

David_F, Mar 2026
Driver/guide was for the most part unintelligible. Even though he had bus wide speakers his accent was so heavy the four persons in or group often could not understand. The sites visited were fine.

Response from Host, Apr 2026

There are an estimated 180 different English accents in the world. Expecting a tour guide to adapt their speech to match every individual listener’s preference is unrealistic. That’s not how communication works in the real world. It requires a small amount of patience and effort from the listener as well. If four people in your group struggled, yet the rest of the bus followed along, engaged, and went on to leave positive feedback for the same guide, the issue is unlikely to be the guide alone. It points to a limited exposure to different ways of speaking and a low tolerance for stepping outside familiar patterns of communication. Travel is supposed to challenge that. It’s not just about seeing places, it’s about engaging with people who don’t sound like you, don’t phrase things like you, and don’t fit neatly into your expectations. If you travel in a closed loop: same group, same conversations, same expectations, you’re not really experiencing anything new. You’re just relocating your comfort zone and expecting the world to adjust to it. The sites were fine, as you said. The experience you missed was the human one, and that comes down to mindset, not accent.

Introduction to lesser known attractions

Alexander_M, Mar 2026
It lasted about the right length of time. As well as well known attractions it added to our awareness of Sydney by introducing us to lesser known attractions

Limited bus seating

Chuck_P, Mar 2026
The tour was informative. The bus was to small, I had trouble getting my legs and knees in the seating area. The person behind me had their knees in my back. The driver was accommodating and spoke with a heavy accent, which made it hard to understand at times. The bus seating made it to uncomfortable to really enjoy the total trip.

Go to botanical garden and Bondi Beach on your own

Michelle_O, Mar 2026
Martin, the tour guide, was very nice, but extremely difficult to understand. He had a very thick Eastern European accent.

Response from Host, Apr 2026

We need to add some context here. You had a certain sickness, you mentioned it to our tour guide, and our guide made a clear effort to look after you and ensure your comfort. As for the accent: this was a multicultural tour. Expecting a guide to match a specific regional English accent is unrealistic. There are countless variations of English, and clear communication goes both ways. It takes minimal effort to understand different accents, especially in an international setting. Unfortunately, your review overlooks the care and service provided, focusing instead on something that reflects more on your expectations than on the quality of the tour.

Great tour!

Cindy_W, Mar 2026
The driver was very knowledgeable and funny. He made the tour very enjoyable! Loved the places we visited!

Great trip worth taking and good value.

Carol_A, Mar 2026
Great trip and opportunity to take photos along the way. Not too rushed anywhere and good commentary along the way.

A Good Start to Sydney

Alanna_L, Mar 2026

Nice tour. Good overview...

Lisa_A, Mar 2026
Nice tour. Good overview of Sydney. But if you’re looking for a personalized tour, this is not for you.

Good Detailed Tour

Don_T, Mar 2026
Good extensive tour. Would have likes more time at Bondi Beach (had lunch there and no time to explore). Very reasonable cost

A day in Sydney

Linda_W, Mar 2026
The driver was very knowledgeable and showed us all the main places in Sydney and we had opportunities for photos. The meeting place is by the fountain in the park. It is not sheltered so we stood in the rain waiting. Don't forget an umbrella!!

Nice city tour when...

Christine_D, Mar 2026
Nice city tour when you're short on time. Showed highlights of Sydney. Tour guide was funny and informative. Would have liked time to stop and shop at some locations

Great Sydney overview

Linda_F, Mar 2026
Driver/tour guide was friendly, patient and knowledgeable. A lot of areas of Sydney were seen. Bus was very comfortable.

Terrible

Subra_M, Mar 2026
It was an utter waste of time the driver never stopped talking but many of us couldn’t understand a word he said tried IPhone speech to words and that couldn’t get any sense of his speech it would have been better if we had public transport and went to individual places and even though it was threatening a down pour he had the sort closed and talking about Bindi beach that when we got out it opened and couldn’t even get a decent photo

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Your review reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of what you booked. This is a guided tour, not a private transfer service. The guide speaking throughout the journey is exactly what guests are paying for — commentary, explanations, and context about the places we visit. Expecting the driver/guide to remain silent on a guided tour defeats the entire purpose of the experience. You also state that you “couldn’t understand a word.” Our tours are conducted in English and involve detailed commentary during the drive. A reasonable level of English comprehension is necessary to follow the explanations. Thousands of guests from around the world join these tours and enjoy the commentary without difficulty. iPhone speech-to-text: this technology is designed for clear, direct microphone input. Background sounds like traffic, wind, or other conversations will significantly degrade accuracy. Additionally, many Aboriginal place names and cultural terms are unlikely to be recognised correctly by automated transcription. As for the weather, we do not control it. No tour operator can guarantee perfect weather for photographs. Finally, your review's writing style makes several of your points difficult to understand. However, one thing is clear: if someone prefers travelling independently by public transport and visiting places on their own schedule, then a guided tour with continuous commentary is probably not the right product for them. For guests who actually want a guided experience and to learn about Sydney’s landmarks, including Bondi Beach, the tour delivers exactly what it promises.

Great way to get to know...

John_H, Mar 2026
Great way to get to know the city in a short time. Was able to stop many places and take photos. Guide was difficult to understand at times but enjoyed the experience.

Lots of sights are...

Glenda_T, Mar 2026
Lots of sights are included in this tour. Most are a "pass by" with a few "hop off" stops to take photos. More time at Bondi Beach for the lunch stop would have been appreciated.

Fun and informative tour around Sydney

Genevieve_L, Mar 2026
This was our very first Viator experience, and a great one! Martin, our driver and guide, was kind, polite, respectful, funny and very informative about all the local areas, as well as about the amenities such as WCs and good coffee shops. This is a relaxing way to see Sydney Harbour, the coastline and suburbs of East Sydney, Bondi Beach and a bit of Sydney CBD. Thankyou, Martin and Viator!

Great tour

Ed_H, Mar 2026
Excellent tour with a knowledgeable and humourous driver. ,................................,.........

Worse tour ever, but we have had other good Aviator tours

Robert_L, Mar 2026
We could not understand the driver’s (GU 8164) thick foreign accent (Russian?) and my wife my daughter and I were sitting right behind him. At the FIRST STOP my wife and I asked him to repeat a couple of things as he was giving us instructions before everyone got off the bus. He turns around, looks side to side at my head, and says OVER THE LOUDSPEAKER, “Do you wear hearing aids?” at which time I said I do and then he says, “Ah ha!” He then looks at my wife and asked her if she wore hearing aids too (she does not). I immediately said to him that the problem is NOT that I did not hear him. The problem was we had a problem with his thick foreign accent. When everybody got off the bus for the stop, I want up to him and told him how embarrassing it was for him to call me out because of my hearing aids in front of everyone and that we wanted off the bus and our money back. He said it was not a problem and that we would get our money back and he would let us out right there. We were at the Mrs. Macquarie‘s Chair landmark where there were no taxis around. I asked him to let us off at the first street where we could possibly catch a taxi which he did. There was no apology. In fact, he said to me that some people that are not used to foreign accents might have a problem. I told him we’ve been all around the world and never had that kind of problem before. It was like he was trying to put the blame on me. I not only want our money back for the three of us $105.48 PLUS the Viator credit dollars that we used towards the cost of the tour. I would also like $31 taxi cost for us to get back to our hotel, The Park Hyatt Sydney, but I don’t expect you would do that. Dr. Robert Linett: Conf #1751940385 / BR #1369121383.

Very Disappointing

Martha_H, Mar 2026
This particular tour was guided by a gentleman who spoke English with a very heavy accent, very different to understand. Reduced enjoyment of tour as I could not make out what he was describing as we toured.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Great for a day trip to Sydney!

Kristen_W, Mar 2026
I’m thankful that Martin was informative, funny, and to-the-point! I appreciated this overview of Sydney since I only had one day to see the city, plus I was able to do my own sightseeing before and after the tour due to the timing and just-right length of the tour.
