We got soooo muddy! Felix, Gato Loco, was just an amazing guide! He had his hands full with our group but was a total professional. The Cenote “The Cave” was bit too short of a visit, wish we had stay a bit longer than we did. Next was Dominican Coffee, Chocolate and Mamawana(rum, red wine, spices, fruit and honey drink-very strong!) tasting. Got a history lesson of how Dominican ancestors made all this, which was interesting. Next was the muddy fun drive to the beach! Macao beach was beautiful! Stayed about 30 min took some pics and played in the water. Then it was back to the muddy fun drive back to base! Over all a really great day! Be warned if you choose a dune buggy, no power steering, so you have to actively drive and man handle it, which is a workout, but that’s half the fun! Also wear clothes that you don’t mind getting muddy, suggest a bathing suit or active shorts or don’t wear a shirt while driving, bring a dry bag for your stuff. We decided to throw our clothes away (old & worn out) once we got back to the hotel…made space for gifts! 😉 You won’t have anywhere to stash your stuff so you’ll have to hang onto it, tough if you’re a solo driver, great if you have someone with you. If you don’t want to get so muddy suggest the ATV option. This was a fast 4 hours start to finish but so much fun! Highly recommend this trip and company.

We had an absolute ball! It was crazy fun but be prepared for the dirt and mud, the hikes to the beach and down steep steps to the cave. You’ll have fun, but there’s a workout in there too.

Kitson was an awesome tour guide and this excursion was extremely fun! Be prepared to get muddy so wear something you don’t mind getting ruined. 10/10, would definitely do this excursion again!!!

Dune buggy broke down several times while on the tour. All of the stops they had arrangements with vendors and everything seemed very expensive

Great time and experience, our instructor was wonderful and very informative. The food was delicious and beach was incredible with a great view.
Kellye_W, Jan 2026
The not so good: Seatbelts are literally a cloth belt tied around you and the side of the buggy. The buggies are old with challenging steering and brakes. We had to switch buggies at the final stop after the brakes went out completely. There were no helmets provided and no instructions on how to operate the buggy, though it wasn’t hard to figure it out. Speed of the buggy is generally low.
The good: Unique way for first timers to quickly see parts of the DR. We had no injuries or safety issues despite the aforementioned concerns.
Tips: bring a bandana and glasses/goggles. Choose a different tour with helmets if you have kids or your nerves aren’t up for semi-dangerous but exhilarating fun!

This was an excellent experience! We’ve done buggies before and enjoyed it, but this was a great time! Felix was our guide and he was funny, kind, and ensured everyone was safe and had fun. The equipment was clean (well, on departure… lol) and reliable, no one in our group had any problems. If you book, ensure you wear clothes/shoes that can be potentially ruined due to dirt/mud. Gators or bandanas are helpful, they sell them if you don’t bring or forget your own. They offer multiple options for vehicles, 4/2/1 seaters, being buggies, or ATVs. Great experience! Book without any hesitation!

We did a private tour and it was a blast! Beach was gorgeous and the mud was flying! Definitely recommend. Great tour guides.

Great experience with my husband in Punta Cana! We got muddy for sure. But it was a blast! We enjoyed the tasting, Cenote, and beach!
Francoise_B, Nov 2025
They will try and sell you souvenirs and local goods everywhere you go. The carts are entertaining and the tour is to a cave pool and then the beach but the tasting is just a marketing tool to sell more . Tip the photographer separately as the excursion company doesn’t share tips with him and he is great fun and working hard.
kimberly_h, Oct 2025
It was very fun, you will get dirty. There are vendors to purchase souvenirs on the route to the beach.

Kiason was the best.. we had a wonderful time. We definitely recommend booking. You will have an awesome time.

This was a dangerous and disappointing experience. We hired two buggies, both of which had severe steering defects making them almost undriveable. One also had faulty brakes, while the other needed its “seatbelt” tied to the frame. Only one buggy was replaced partway through; the other wasn’t. The guide dismissed responsibility, saying someone else in the company should have checked the vehicles. Even the only other buggy on the trip broke down on the way back. I warned the company that our buggies should not be reused, as someone could easily have a serious accident.
Beyond the safety issues, the tour was poor value. Goggles ($20 each) and bandannas ($5+ each), usually included elsewhere, were sold at inflated prices (Sunglasses will not be sufficient on account of the dust and grit.). Stops were unimpressive: a crowded cenote, a brief sales pitch disguised as a coffee/chocolate demo, and a half-hour at a beach spoiled by seaweed, brown water, and litter.
Unsafe, poorly organised, and underwhelming. Strongly advise avoiding this operator.

Such a fun excursion to do. All the tour guides that were with our group were amazing and so fun. 10/10 experience
veronica_g, Aug 2025
Very fun excursion! The cenote was beautiful, the beach was amazing. The ride was fun, wish we could have ran into so muddy puddles but overall a great experience! Would definitely do again!
Baptiste_D, Jul 2025
The group was very small which made it really nice! We went to a cenote first and it was stunning. The buggy’s were super fun and fast. But the one thing I didn’t really like about it was the chocolate and coffee tasting, because it seemed like they were trying to sell souvenirs instead of showing us how everything is made. The beach they took us to was very nice as well! I really recommend this experience, it was genuinely extremely fun! Bring clothes you don’t mind getting dirty because the mud is crazy!
Latiesa_K, Jul 2025
This excursion was great! Our tour guide El gato loco was engaging and attentive to our group. Kids had a great time and we got really muddy. The kids favorite part was jumping into the cave. I would definitely recommend this experience.

Here are some things I wish I knew before I went on this excursion. There are many of these tours, the big companies with large facilities and more modern equipment come with a large, (like 15-20 buggy convoy) tours. Lots of people with you at each stop. This tour was clearly one of the little guys, so equipment is a little rougher and facilities are basic, but our 11 person group did not feel crowded at the stops.
Generally a tour guide makes or breaks the experience in most cases. We had Kitson, who was clear about safety and gave us the straight talk on local merchants. He was a little indifferent, but spoke English clearly and was good at keeping us together.
This tour is on a clock, (just like every other similar buggy tour) three stops, set time at each, 20 minutes -ish. They keep things moving, so it’s not a leisurely tour.
You can buy food along the way from local sellers at the cave stop and the beach.
I’d show up in clothes that can get wet and dirty. Preferably rapid drying materials. They will sell you a bandana for the dust, but definitely need a set of sunglasses or eye protection. Don’t really need to bother packing towels, you won’t have the time to leisurely lay them out and dry out.
Bring cash if you want to buy some of the local items. Credit purchases can be unreliable with signal and have hefty surcharges. It is typical to have sellers pushing their products, but there are some decent choices to purchase in order to support the locals as you tear through their neighborhoods in a dune buggy.
The ride to and from is in an open air “bus/truck”. It takes about an hour from the Punta Cana resort areas.
The off road part comes when headed to/from the beach. The first two stops are close to the start point and mostly on paved road to get there. The off road part is more like unpaved country roads than a jungle trail. These roads get worked by 100s of buggies on a busy high season day so traffic can be considerable.
The photographer is along for the ride to also sell you his photos. This was my only real disappointment. His pictures were great, but starting price for emailing 4 digital pictures was $80. That is steep even by Disney World price standards. It was certainly a bit out of sync with this modest tour. Notably the photographer is not affiliated with the buggy tour company, just tagging along to make some coin off his access to the tour.
I would go again if I knew the above beforehand and my experience would be better matched to expectations

The Buggies were not safe and reliable. We had 5 carts that stopped working numerous times; from smoking motors, flat tires, bad breaks, etc….Half the excursion we were not able to drive. Definitely was not a good experience.
Response from Host, Jul 2025
Dear customer,
We remind you that these buggies operate three times a day. We explained that breakdowns can happen occasionally. Only two buggies failed and were replaced immediately. We apologize for the inconvenience. We have also issued a partial refund for the two buggies that broke down. Thank you very much for your comment.
Denise_N, Jul 2025
Very well organized and timed. Pickup and dropout included! Was able to be back at the resort by 12:30! Perfect half day excursion.
Rickie_D, Jul 2025
Our dune buggy experience was an absolute nightmare from the start. The tour began with the guide making sexually inappropriate comments (“all the women here will be my baby mama”) toward the women in our group during the rules briefing. My girlfriend thought they were going to kidnap us and raped them on the excursion. What should have been a safety talk quickly turned into an uncomfortable and disturbing display of unprofessionalism.
The equipment was in shocking condition—several buggies had to be hotwired using loose wires just to start, and many had visibly bent frames, bald tires, and steering wheels that wobbled dangerously. One buggy crashed later revealed to be due to a failed steering mechanism.
The trails themselves were poorly maintained, with little direction, hazardous terrain, and areas flooded with foul-smelling water. The guide offered no support when issues arose, and at multiple points, half the group was completely lost due to lack of communication and guidance.
This tour was not only unorganized but also a serious safety hazard and seemed like extortion on the stops. Between the inappropriate behavior of the guide and the completely unfit vehicles, this was the worst outdoor adventure we’ve ever experienced. It’s appalling that this operation is allowed to run. Avoid at all costs—for your safety and peace of mind.

Scheduled a couple days before & the night before our excursion they changed our time slot from 9am to 1:50pm. We were waiting from 1:50 which was our pickup time we waited from more then an hour and nobody texted us back we tried calling the number they provided and no answer, poor communication
Qwameshia_M, Jun 2025
This ATV experience was GREAT! We experienced real mud and getting dirty, something my crew looked forward too. The crew was amazing and we always felt safe. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great time.
michele_c, Jun 2025
Awful...safety was alarming. Most seatbelts were torn off. They tried to talk me out of wearing a helmet because they didn't have any left. When I insisted they found one but it was broken and I had to try to tie it on my head. Most of the we were not driving buggies but taken to the town to be harassed by locals to buy things. The cave they brought us too smelled like urine and has glass beer bottles covering the grounds. The driver took us to a gas station on the way to an excursion and we sat in the parking lot (didn't even get gas) for no apparent reason. The driver just got out of the car and walked to anther car and talked to the drier for about 10 minutes. Mind blowing. We had to endure a high pressure photo sale pitch after the excursion to make the day longer then wait another 15-20 minutes on the bus before the driver would drive us back. I want my money back. It was a waste of my money and vacation day.

Wear swim suits or shorts and t shirts No jeans or trousers Lots of fun but you will get full of dirt in rainy season
Stephanie_P, May 2025
Such fun! I really loved this excursion, will absolutely do this again. Really loved the beach at the end, it was such a great way to rinse all the mud off,,, water was clear, easy, and the sand was powdery.
Zakaria_A, May 2025
Amazing experience! This is a must in Punta Cana. It lets you see more than just the inside of a resort. Immerse yourself in the DR culture!
Cassandra_R, May 2025
Our tour guide, El Gato Loco provided a very fun and safe experience! The experience lasted about 4 hours, we were able to shop a little, dive into the cenotes for pictures ( i do think the cenotes experience could have been a little longer) and atv to the beach. You will 100% get muddy so wear clothes that might get ruined (dont wear white) , closed toe shoes aren’t required but if you have sandals would recommend staps.

Communication before the experience was terrible. We booked for 3pm (months in advance) and the day before we get a message asking if we could switch to the 12pm because were the only booking they had at that time. I responded and said we had other things booked that day and 3pm is the only time we could go. Then they message back saying they will get back to use after they get a quorum. So clearly, we we're they only ones signed up for that time. The next morning, the day of the excursion, we still hadn't heard anything from them, so we messaged asking if there was any update and don't hear back. We spend the next few hours sending multiple messages and calls asking if the excursion was still on. We finally hear back at 12:35pm that we will be picked up at our hotel at 1:10pm; 35 minutes from now. This gave us no time to get ready and eat lunch. Thankfully, have messaging back and forth we were able to get pushed back to 1:45pm.
We were picked up on time and arrived at the location an hour early (so not sure why they couldn’t have picked us up even later). As we waited, two full buses of people showed us for the tour, so they clearly lied about us being the only booking at that time. The tour also started an hour late, so we waited there for over two hours. The first stop was the beach which was pretty, but we only got to spend 10 minutes there. The website says 20 minutes at each location, but they had to rush everything because they were so late getting started. They didn’t actually start until 3:55pm. The next stop was the coffee and rum which was basically a sales pitch to get you to buy overpriced alcohol at an outdoor convenient store. There was also no chocolate to try except some hot chocolate from a dispenser. The cenote was the biggest disappointment. It looks nothing like what the pictures show. It was very dark and crowded. The water was also very murky. Riding the buggies was pretty good but the group was so big, we pretty much just coasted the whole time and didn’t go very fast.
Karen_E, May 2025
Our family enjoyed this adventure and Kitsen, our guide was awesome! From the chocolate and coffee tasting, to the cave, and then the stop at Cacao Beach, it was everything we hoped for! We could have done without the locals trying to make money off us, and one guy washed the sand off our feet without asking and then wanted money. But other than that, it was a great time!
