This hike was the most difficult hike we have done but getting all the way to the top was well worth it. Our tour guide, Metaeu (sooo sorry I spelled his name wrong!) was AMAZING! Funny, encouraging, and took great care of our group!

This was probably one of the most mentally and physically challenging thing I have ever done in my life but I dare say also of the most memorable and life changing thing as well. Beginner hikers beware, this is a VERY ADVANCED hike. I was an emotional wreck at the end of it but Matteo and Bruno are the kindest, experienced, wonderful people/guides on earth. I wouldn’t have been able to complete this hike without them. Me and my friend came very under prepared and Bruno gave us his extra hoodie/zipup and Matteo allowed us to follow behind him going up so he can guide us the whole way and make sure we didn’t give up and also that we were safe. On the descend down, Bruno led the pack and stayed behind towards the end to really guide my friend. Towards the middle of the descend, I was having a VERY hard time and Matteo stayed behind to ensure that I completed the hike safely. Truly the worst and best experience of my life. I was in tears at the end of the hike. Especially towards the kindness and reassurance I had from Matteo. I really felt my body break and I was starting to really break mentally but Matteo kept reassuring my and making sure I kept my confidence and spirit. I couldn’t have done this without them. I would give them a MILLION stars if I could. They also kept taking videos and gave us some much history, constellation information, and photography tips to capture the best pictures. They are the most wonderful people in the world. I was able to learn through this hike that Matteo had hiked this more than 850 times and Bruno’s dad is also a mountain hike guide. Although a EXTREMELY difficult hike, you will be in safe hands with Matteo and Bruno. The most dedicated and wonderful people you will ever meet!

Beginner’s Beware

This was my FIRST time hiking (ever) so if you are a beginner or have limited hiking experience(s), this will be an EXTREMELY challenging climb. However, I was lucky to be led by Matteo and Bruno who were both so patient and motivating it really pushed me to complete the hike. If it wasn’t for them, I would’ve quit early on but they wanted to make this a memorable experience for me (and everyone in the group) and constantly supported me to make sure I was pushing through. Seriously, if you happen to have either Matteo or Bruno lead your group, you are in GREAT HANDS! Trust them if you don’t trust yourself! If you are up for a challenge, make sure you have the stamina, athleticism, and mental fortitude for this hike - Pico’s elevation is anything but pequena. Another huge tip is to read/review the PDF they send out before the hike and follow their instructions! I wasn’t prepared whatsoever and underestimated the elevation, weather, and apparel needs. To summarize, 10/10 - this was the highlight (and struggle 🥹) of my trip in Pico.

First say that our guide Bruno Leal, is a great person, led us very well along the trail and was very patient, warned at all times of dangerous areas, is a great guide. It's worth climbing, the night sky is impressive and shooting stars kept falling, and the sunrise from above is very nice, you have to keep in mind the following. The night climb is very good, as you don't see the top, and there are 6-7 breaks gets along well, you have to be fit is not easy, the descent is more difficult, since it happens in all volcanoes, being the trails very irregular and with obstacles. It is important to know that in several sections you have to climb, for me the experience was 10 , we started at about two and a half and we arrived at the top at seven and left 7:30 approx and arrived 12 at the house the mountain.

La camminata è dura, soprattutto la discesa dato il tanto dislivello in pochi km, ma nulla di impossibile per qualcuno un minimo allenato.

Eine top Wandertour. Hatten in der Nacht ein tolles Wetter. Der Bergführer Matteo hatte die Tour gut im Griff, ob es der Pfad war, die Ausrüstung (Stirnlampe, Erst Helfer Koffer, Kaffee und seine Gäste gut gesichtet hat) Er wusste sofort damit umzugehen. Ein top Wanderführer - kann ich nur empfehlen. Top Tour / 10 von 10 Sterne Macht weiter so … 😃
