This was a great family day tour. Communication was great before and during the tour. Got to see a small village church, the castle, great Austrian lunch, and the alpine coaster. Checked all the boxes we wanted and got to see outside of Munich.

Starting our Adventure: We’ll begin our day promptly at 8:00 AM in the lobby of your hotel/AirBnB. Bavaria’s weather can be quite erratic, so we recommend checking the forecast and wearing comfortable walking shoes for our mountain exploration & or Rain gear! Tailoring Your Day: While your tour fee covers your private transport and guide, additional optional expenses are as follows: Royal Entrances: Tickets for Neuschwanstein (€25.50 - we will let you know how to acquire these) and Linderhof (€10.00- onsite) can be settled by card. The Optioanal Mountain Shuttle: To get the best views at the castle, there is a small €3.00 shuttle fee (this one is cash only, so a few coins are handy!). Alternatively we walk up but be warned, you need to be moderately fit to do this. A Bavarian Feast: We’ll stop for a delicious local lunch where you can choose exactly what suits your appetite. This local Austrian Eatary is cash only. Arriving in Style: If you’d like to start your trip stress-free, we offer private Airport Pickups for €95. Lovely day of castle viewing

Betty_R, Mar 2026
Very nice day . We liked the personal experience without big groups . It is worth to do both castles but there is a lot of walking and stairs involved so wear good shoes and be prepared to climb stairs and walk uphill . Best to go later in the season ie April when the fountains are uncovered and the water features are working but it was still nice as there were no crowds .

Hi Betty. Thank you so much for your wonderful 5-star review! We're thrilled to hear you had such a memorable time with Alex and truly enjoyed exploring Bavaria with us. Wishing you safe travels further and next time join us for our bike tour if you can.

Must do when in Munich

A Great Big Day Seeing and Experiencing a Lot!!

AMANDAELLEN_D, Dec 2025
It was a great day sightseeing through the Bavarian Alps region, visiting villages and famous castles! We experienced and saw a lot in 1 day! Alex was friendly, knowledgeable, great with kids, and kept us on track and on our mission to see and experience plenty during our tour day! I would highly recommend Alex take you on a tour!

Personal tour experience

Joanne_B, Dec 2025
Private van tour. Kind & pleasant guide. Fun trip to see some beautiful sites. We wanted the personalized tour experience over the large bus groups & this delivered that.

Response from Host, Dec 2025

What a brilliant review, thank you! It's wonderful to hear you had such a memorable time on our Neuschwanstein Castle bus tour. We work hard to ensure a fantastic journey to this iconic landmark, and your guide Alex also sends his thanks for your lovely comments. We hope to see you back for more adventures!

Fantastic Tour

Daniel_S, Oct 2025
Siegmund was a great tour guide - very knowledgeable and helped us navigate around all the big groups for a more personal tour experience. Beautiful views, castles, and food were the highlights - he knew exactly where to go and when. We also bought a souvenir that we left in his vehicle and he went out of his way to ship it back to America. Highly recommend this private tour!

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Hi Dan. Thank you for the great review. Always appreciated. Safe travels further.

Worth every penny!

Cindy_A, Jan 2025
Siegmund is a hoot. Kept us entertained for the entire 8 hours we were together. He’s got a great store of historical knowledge to share and also fun facts based on his experience. He customized the day to our preferences and desired activity level so we did just the things we were most interested in. One thing to note is the climb to Neuschwanstein Castle is steep and snowy in December. Gorgeous, but be sure to wear boots with winter traction, otherwise you’ll be waiting in a long queue to ride the horse carriage up the mountain (buses weren’t running the day we were there and the bridge was closed). The alpine sled is worth a ride whether you take it slow to enjoy the view or zoom down for the exhilaration. A stop for pastry and a peek into a stunning Catholic Church in Steingaden started us on the journey with a bit of history at the village maypole. And ask to see the variety of items for sale in the town vending machine! Lunch at Marty’s in Austria and afternoon tea and shopping in Oberammergau capped the day. Definitely a five-star tour, worth every penny!

Response from Host, Mar 2025

Hi Cindy. Great review - thank you so much. Safe travels further from Siegmund!

Good experience, knowledgeable guide

Gul_Y, Jan 2025
We booked the private tour as the less expensive bus tours were sold out. We did not imagine Munich to be such a hot travel destination over winter holidays, but it is, so book early. Also Neuschwanstein Castle tickets sell out quickly (despite the fact that you only get to tour 4 rooms and it is SO crowded that you are herded along like cattle). We toured the inside of Linderhof instead which was a much more intimate experience and Linderhof was actually finished in terms of construction and decoration. I think Neuschwanstein is better to be seen from the outside. Anyhow, our tour guide Alex was good; because it was private we were able to add/delete from the itinerary depending on what we wanted. He picked us up at 8am from our hotel and dropped us off where we needed at the end of the day. We covered a lot of ground, which we would have been unable to do on our own just renting a car, as he knew shortcuts, the best time to visit a certain attraction, what time ticket booths close etc. We also went to an Austrian restaurant with great food that we wouldn't have known on our own. Most of us thought it was money well spent. However after paying almost $200 per person, some in our group did not appreciate that we had to pay extra for castle tickets etc. It might be good to roll those into the tour price to avoid the impression of customers getting nickel and dimed. Some also thought it was too much to cover in one day and that it felt rushed. I think this is a personal preference thing so won't hold it against the tour company or guide. I personally would rather cover as much ground as I can in a day, so I didn't mind it.

Response from Host, May 2025

Hi Gul, Thank you for taking the time to share your valuable feedback on your recent tour with us. We truly appreciate you letting us know about your experience, as it helps us continuously improve our guest tours. We've noticed that with groups of up to eight people, it's common for the booking organizer to be more familiar with the itinerary than the other guests, which can sometimes lead to varying expectations. For those considering booking, we strongly recommend reviewing the tour details together beforehand. This way, when your guide meets you, your group can communicate your collective priorities, allowing the guide to tailor the experience to best suit everyone's interests. We aim to provide an action-packed day, which is something our guests generally love. Rest assured, we don't rush the tour and we strive to be flexible, adapting to the group's interests as much as possible. While pleasing everyone can be a challenge, we're delighted to hear you enjoyed your experience enough to leave a five-star review! Regarding the tickets not being included in the tour price, this is a deliberate policy for several reasons. Primarily, it protects both you and us. If we purchased tickets in advance and you then had to cancel your tour, recovering the cost of those tickets from individual guests can be difficult. This system ensures you are only paying for tickets you will actually use. Additionally, handling ticket costs directly can create complexities with tax regulations. By having guests purchase their tickets in advance (as we advise), we aim to avoid any disappointment due to sold-out attractions, especially during our busy season. Thank you again for your feedback. We hope to welcome you back on another Mike's Bike Tour in the future! Safe travels!

Excellent

Sigman was very accommodating, we started off with a rough patch all due to me, but sigman made it work, he was knowledgeable engaging friendly and a pleasure . Unlike the tour from get your guide all things Bavarian (stay away)

Sigmund Rocks

Brenda_F, Dec 2024
Signing, with Mike’s Bikes was, hands-down, the most passionate and knowledgeable guide I’ve encountered in many other excursions. Engaging, passionate, and entertaining, he made the day a highlight of our trip. Because of our time constraint we shortened our day and he was very accommodating. Ask for Sigmund when you book. Oh, also he is bilingual, German and English.

Response from Host, Jan 2025

Hi Brenda. Danke schön for the kind words. Always appreciated. It was a pleasure taking you folks out on tour. Safe travels further.

A Must Do!!

Scott_B, Dec 2024
A must do! Will not regret it. Our guide, Alex, was funny, engaging and kept us on schedule (German style) to maximize what we could get done in one day. We did Neuschwanstein, Linderhif, Ettal Abbett and even fit in an Alpine coaster ride (great fun!). We also had an excellent lunch in Reutte (get the pike if offered - caught fresh locally each day). We lean red so much about each site and the area in general from Alex and had a great time doing so. We were dropped off at the Munich Tollwood winter festival at the end of the day so we got to experience another market during Christmas which wasn’t specific to Christmas. Sights of the German and Austrian Alps are breathtaking during the travel (we had a clear good weather day) and the small German villages were great looking. Give this a try - you won’t regret it!

Amazing trip!

Stephanie_W, Dec 2024
We had a group of 7 all varying ages and capabilities, Alex was amazing! He was very knowledgeable and extremely easy to get a long with. He went above and beyond when we couldn’t find a phone and were so appreciative. Our sons favorite part of the trip

Response from Host, Dec 2024

Hi and thank you for your feedback. Alex appreciates each and everyone of them as it keeps us, and him in business. Safe travels and keep an eye on those phones.

Beautiful Germany

Jennifer_M, Dec 2024
The ride from Munich to the castle was beautiful! Alex was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and took us to a wonderful lunch and pastry shop.

Response from Host, Dec 2024

Hi Jennifer. Thank you for the great review - Alex appreciates the good vibes. Safe travels further.

Too much rush to Disney...

haroldng55, Dec 2024
Too much rush to Disney castle. Should have begun tour at 7:30am for 10:40am ticket entrance. Also van was not a good experience - no floor mats, too much tinted windows, cannot see outside. Alex was a good guide.

Response from Host, Dec 2024

Dear Harold. That you for your feedback. We do realise that we should have started earlier and we will make that a priority with the next early booking - we usually aim for 11.10 to give everyone enough time however that time slot was sold out. It must be said that the rest of the day was far more relaxed as we had not preset entry times. As to our Mini Van, it does have tinted windows to counteract the summer heat which in turn does not make it very winter friendly. We will make sure our next minivan has lighter tinted windows and floor mats. We hope you still enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the experience of visiting Neuschwanstein Castle though and wish you safe travels further.

A Long Fun Day

APRIL_P, Oct 2024
Alex picked us up right in front of our flat at 8A sharp! We first went to Newscwanstein and along the drive Alex pointed out several places of interest while filling us in on the history of Ludwig II. Newschanstein is a gorgeous castle and Alex knew all the best places for photo opportunities and was very happy to take several family photos for us. We then went to lunch in Oberammergau. While my husband & I shopped, Alex took our daughter up to the Alpine sled and she had a great time. We then toured Linderhof and headed back to Munich. Upon arriving in Munich Alex stopped and showed us where people actually go surfing in Kleine Eisbachwelle, which was an unexpected highlight!

Response from Host, Nov 2024

Hi April. Glad to hear you had an exceptional time with Alex and made great memories whilst in Bavaria. Safe travels further.

Awesome Tour with an amazing guide

Subhra_C, Oct 2024
We took a private day tour to Neuschwanstein and Linderhof castles with Mike’s Bike Rental in October. Our guide, Sigmund, was outstanding, knowledgeable, friendly, and kept the tour engaging throughout the day. It was an unforgettable experience filled with beautiful memories. We also enjoyed a delicious, authentic Bavarian lunch at a charming local spot at Oberammergau. We highly recommend this trip.

Response from Host, Oct 2024

Many thanks for your great review, truly appreciated. Safe travels with family.

Honeymoon Excursion

Barry_S, Oct 2024
Alex was out private guide for my wife and I on this excursion! We were happy to have him tell us the history of Oktoberfest (how there's a section that is over 110 years old); giving us details of the fairy tale king, King Ludwig II, and Neuschwanstein Castle. We stopped for lunch on Plansee Lake to discover our 10 minutes ride to Linderhof became a 1 hour detour due to road closures. We were able to enjoy Linderhof and Oberammergau before getting on the Autobahn and returning after a long day of exploration. Alex was very courteous and knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed having Alex's company for our first excursion on our honeymoon!

Response from Host, Oct 2024

Hi Barry. We are happy that you were happy with our tour. Safe travels.

Best Way to See Highlights of Bavarian Alps

Greg_B, Oct 2024
My family enjoyed a memorable day with our guide, Alex. Alex tailored our itinerary to suit our preferences and to take advantage of the beautiful weather. We avoided the lines at attractions and appreciated Alex’s experience and many insights. I highly recommend this tour.

Response from Host, Oct 2024

We thank you for your great review. Safe travels further.

A great day!

Alison_S, Sep 2024
Very encompassing tour, including history, architecture and insights into Ludwig II. Tour was very organized and our guide Sigmund was delightful!

Wonderful tour.

Nicolas was a great tour guide. He catered to our time and preferences. It is a lot of walking so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. We had a wonderful local lunch and saw a lot of beautiful sites. Highly recommend!!

Outstanding Tour Guide; Had a Fun Day

Steven_G, Sep 2024
Our tour guide, Sigmund, was great. We had instant rapport with him and were bantering and laughing the whole day. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the sites we were visiting and about Germany in general. We had the unforeseeable circumstance of the van breaking down, but Sigmund did a great job of managing workarounds and had things resolved as timely as possible. We did lose some time and that, combined with his fixed plans for that evening, resulted in our not being able to spend much time in Oberammergau. We were pretty bummed about that but understood. We elected in advance not to do Ettal in favor of the alpine coaster but were unable to do that because of bad weather. All in all, we covered a lot of territory and had a fun day.

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Hi Steven. Thanks for the great review despite the car problems we had and of course the fact that it was raining all day long. I do not normally have after work appointments but it seems it was one of those days. Safe travels.

good trip

tim_e, Sep 2024
good trip. would recommend to anyone never seeing these sites. The labour-intensive restoration work on the unique works of art, which began in 2017, is gradually taking place in all the showrooms, ancillary rooms and functional rooms accessible to visitors. The famous Singers' Hall and the magnificent Throne Hall have already been completely restored. The entire work is expected to be completed by autumn 2024. Due to ongoing restoration work, filming in the interior of Neuschwanstein Castle - even outside regular opening hours - is unfortunately not possible until further notice. Wow! what a memorable Day.

Chad_D, Sep 2024
Our guide, Nicholas, was excellent, very knowledgeable, and personable. We apprenticed the care and attention he provided to make sure we received the most from the tour.

Must see

Meredith_F, Sep 2024
Great trip. Loved all of it. So much to see. Needed more time. So will have to return. Views are to due for. Need your walking legs

Time and money well spent!

Roshan_J, Sep 2024
Way better than I expected! Super flexible, and really well paced trip which is crucial when traveling with family / kids. Surprise stops at a roller coaster, amazing shops, a scenic lake, and a guide who has a wealth of knowledge about everything in sight the entire time. This was both time and money very well spent!

Alex was the best!

Sherry_D, Aug 2024
Alex was a wonderful guide!!!!! It was a rainy day, obviously no fault of his, but we couldn’t do some things we might have liked. Wonderful lunch, appreciated the comments on sights, history, his personality. He made this private tour of 8 a great experience. Going to the “Cinderella “ castle is A LOT, A LOT of climbing steps and inclined roads…just be prepared.

Excellent Trip

Roger_Y, Aug 2024
Mike from Mike’s Bike Tour was an excellent guide. He tailored the trip to our requests and had some great stops for us along the way. Really important to have such a great guide. I would recommend this trip and Mike’s Bike Tour any time.

Great Day Trip with a Multi Generational Group

Andrew_C, Aug 2024
Great trip for a multigenerational family - Grandma, Mom, Dad, 16 year old, 14 year old. Alex did a great job providing information, getting to landmarks, pointing out highlights, etc If you would like to get to the Castle and surrounding sights, this is a great day trip. Of note, it's a long day, with a lot of material and information - which is what we wanted
