Junior did a fantastic job relating the history of coffee and subsequent coffee farming soup to nuts on a costa rica small coffee far. He explained in simple terms the science behind coffee farming and why small coffee farms provide superior coffee to corporate coffee. He had a great sensevof humour and also gave excellent sugar canoe snd chocolate farming summaries. His free coffee chocolate and sugar cane samples very good

The owner/farmer was a very gracious and passionate host. This was a back to basics tour that makes you appreciate a great cup of coffee.

I had an amazing time with this tour. First of all, I have to thank them for the flexibility they showed both with scheduling and pick-up arrangements. Secondly, the tour operator is also the owner of the business, Cafe Ancestors, which is a long-standing family business. This made the experience so authentic and special. The tour was fascinating, and my guide, Greyvin, was very knowledgeable and friendly, ready to answer all kind of questions. The tours started with an introduction on the history and development of coffee. We then walked through the plantation in the forest, and learned the steps and also different modalities of 'making' coffee. We saw sugar canes plantations and freshly squeezed the juice out of it - it was delicious! We also made fresh chocolate on the spot, with cacao beans being crushed and processed with various ingredients. Sooo tasty! We of course also tried different types of coffee, and tried to understand the different characteristics of the beans used by focusing on the taste and the smell. It was fun and entertaining.
One more thing I liked about the activity, is that not only the plantation is inside the forest (to clarify - it is still easily accessible and close to the road), but the process is also eco-friendly, as they use rainwater for the process, and they are also planning further green initiatives.
One last thing, as it was late and was getting dark, the view of the forest in the sunset from the laboratory of the plantation was simply stunning. I took the best picture of my trip so far over there.
Overall, it’s a fantastic experience I cannot recommend enough. Thank you so much! :)

We were lucky as there was no one else, so we got a private tour. Nice to see how this family business makes their products. We were given a tour of the site for over an hour and then we were allowed to taste coffee, chocolate and sugar cane. Nice experience!
