Basic introduction: two historic sites and the souks

We were picked up from our riad and visited the Medersa Ben Youssef (entry 5 Euros), then walked through the souks to the Jardin Secret (entry 10 Euros) and then walked some more through the souks ending in the main square, the Jemma al-Fnaa. Our guide told us about the dynastic history of Morroco and each of the places we visited. This was all pretty interesting. What we were less content about was firstly at each site the guide left us on our own to wander about - in the Jardin Secret for more than half an hour suggesting we get a coffee (which we didn't want). He then took us to several shops were we felt quite pressurised to buy and had to be clear that we were not interested. In the natural goods pharmacy we were immediately offered mint-tea and then given a very hard sell and we felt obliged to buy things we had not intended to get. Meanwhile our guide was having tea on the rooftop. Throughout, sadly, it felt as though we were being guided to spending opportunities. So, yes, do this tour but make it clear (if this is the case) that you do not want to do any shopping at all and don't necessarily need a coffee stop!

An interesting tour of Marrakesh.

Very interesting and informative, our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of insight into local culture, customs and the different languages spoken in the country as a whole. We found the tour of the Bahia Palace fascinating and well worth the visit. The tour of the seuks and spices stalls was enjoyable.

While the guide’s knowledge was evident, a more structured itinerary with pre-planned alternatives would have made the experience smoother and more enjoyable, especially for first-time visitors to Marrakesh. The tour concluded after 2.5h had passed, while the guide suggested that the tour will last 3 to 3.5h.

Abdul's Medina guided tour

Abdul met us at our hotel as agreed and initially spoke to us telling us what we would see. He led us around the Medina taking us to all the main historic sites and giving us some detail that we wouldn't have found ourselves. Abdul was also very caring/understanding, paying for our entrance to sites as we had not yet got any local currency. Indeed he found us an ATM during the tour so we were able to withdraw cash and pay him back plus a well earned tip for his time. One of our party had a sore leg near the end of the tour so he took us close to our hotel, giving her clear guidance so that she could find our way back. At the end of the tour he took us to a carpet shop and a spice shop, both of which were interesting and not high sales pitches. Abdul said he had only been learning English for 5 months but his grip of the language was of a very high standard indeed. I can only highly recommend Abdul as a tour guide, even though after just over 3 hours we still hadn't got our bearings of the Medina!

Worse Tour in Viator - do NOT take it

This is NOT a walking tour, but a rip-off! The so-called guide is really a guy who takes you into the medina, to stores where he gets a commission if you buy. He will show you "the best spots", not where I wanted to go, and even after telling him multiple times that I did NOT want to go into certain stores he still took me there. Honestly, I felt unsafe. I told him that I was not feeling great (not true) so that I could go get out of there. Very politely I asked him to show me where the taxi stand was and even then he wanted a commission from the driver. I told the driver to drive fast. I contacted Viator but nothing was done. HORRIBLE experience

We booked this because we’ve never been to Marrakesh before and wanted some guidance on the best places to see. Our guide was brilliant he answered all our questions as we slowly walked around the medina, and we never felt hurried. He gave us some good ideas for restaurants and some shopping options - it would be rude to come to Marrakesh without buying a rug!

My first time in Morroco. Hussein was a great guide. It was only he and I on the tour so I got a private tour... He was very witty and knowledgable and I enjoyed his company for a few hours. There were a couple times I felt pressured by merchants but he intervened and "saved" me. I've found this is pretty typical in Marrakech but certainly no reflection on him. All in all a very enjoyable morning.

Total bust -- not worth the time!

This tour was a total bust! Walked from one end of the Medina to the other then back across, no joke!!! Guide provided no facts, history, nothing but escorted us through Medina. He told us at the end he'd take us to a great shopping location with NO PRESSURE. There was nothing special about the location and crushing pressure to pay exorbitant prices for things we'd seen at a fraction of the cost. Don't say you weren't warned.

Excellent start to your visit

Very good introduction to Marrakech and also the culture and customs. We did this on our first day and I would recommend this for all. The tour guide was very interesting and helpful. We visited an excellent traditional residence which reflected the Moroccan styles and architecture. Visited a herbalist, gift shop and a lovely traditional bread maker with a real fire oven. The furnace for the Hammam was another good stop. Personally, I would have preferred slightly more historic sites as that interests me more than a herbalist or gift shop so if I was giving feedback, I would suggest the guide gives some options at the beginning so tailoring the needs of the guests.

Nice experience and also the guide was nice. The only thing, maybe some visits were too fast, I think we didn’t spent enough time in some location and the guide was a bit superficial in explaining and telling to us the story, only saying “take a picture” of this place.

Average experience, our guide was very nice and knowledgable but the tour itself after the saadian tombs and the behir palace seemed to just be taking us into place where we felt forced to tip while the guide sat on his phone. Could’ve done the tour ourselves had we have known it would be like this. Great tour guide, wrong tour.

Hello! The tour guide had done the itineray in the description, and as you have booked another tour in the morning before our city tour, our tour guide asked you whether would like to have a walk in the souks or not, but you replied by yes. Our description is widely clear enough, it includes Koutoubia Mosque, Saadien Tombs, Bahia Palace, the souks and the main square of Jamaa el Fna.. The souks includes workshops and it's not a must to buy, the artisans made demonstrations to exhibit their products, and you have not forced to spend any pound.

Learning the history of sites of Marrakesh

My guide was first class. He was extremely knowledgable and showed me the attraction as per our program. We visit the Palace, Saadian tombs and the Medina. He explained in detail the history of each place we visited plus additional facts. He appeared to have many nice friends in the area because as we walked around, he was favourably greeted with a number of locals . He was helpful courteous and a very likeable young man. I recommend this tour as it gives you much insight into the life of the people of Marrakesh. Hopefully you’ll have guide as knowledgeable as mine.

Too little for the price

The tour was 2.5 hours instead of advertised 4 hours. From like 7 stops on the list we saw only 3 (tombs, one palace and the square). And the square was more about convincing us to purchase things which I would not have expected from a paid guided tour. Not worth the money
