Itinerary

Start the day with 8am pickup at your Marrakech hotel, then begin the scenic drive to Essaouira with a personal driver/guide in a private vehicle. Along the way you’ll spot olive groves, wild argan trees, and tiny communities along the edge of the road. If desired, pause to stretch your legs at an argan oil cooperative, where local women process the hard kernels into cosmetics and cooking oil.

When you arrive in Essaouira, talk with the guide to plan a day that’s tailored to your interests. Take a stroll through the Portuguese medina’s cobblestone streets, and learn about the bustling trade that once joined Morocco with seaports around the world.

Pause as often as you want to browse the medina’s little shops, where you can find souvenirs and artwork, then walk to the beach to see wind and kitesurfers cruise back and forth in the steady breeze. Your guide can recommend a restaurant for lunch (this is the perfect place to sample fresh-from-the-ocean seafood), or help arrange a camel ride on the beach. After a day in Essaouira, begin the return trip to Marrakech; this tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel at roughly 7pm.

When I booked this tour, I thought I would have a guide, but as in turned out, it was a driver only and I was my own guide. Luckily Essaouira is a small village. The rampart area was closed near the sea , and there was much construction as well as debris by the sea.
