If you want a tour that doesn't have you crammed in a van or bus and dropping you off at tourist spot after tourist spot, take this day trip. You'll feel like you're on an adventure with a good friend! The windy roads are kind of crazy, but Carlos is a great driver! The hike is moderately strenuous, but Carlos is great and let's you go slow and take breaks if you need to. The view was beautiful at the top! You'll feel like a local and not a tourist.

Wonderful experience. Carlos made the tour interesting and fun. The road to Marcahuasi which is on the side of the mountain is part of the adventure and not for the fainthearted.

Great Solo Experience and Beautiful Day!

This was a fun journey through from Lima to Marcahuasi. Lots of switchbacks up and down a few mountains before arriving at the park where Marcahuasi is. I saw a few animals like lizards, cows, falcons, vizcachas, geese, and some beautiful rock formations and views. Carlos was very fun and informative and it was great to see a different part of the countryside without going too far from Lima!

A great day adventure

Stunning scenery

Marco our guide was absolutely fabulous. He was an excellent driver in both city traffic and on winding country roads through the mountainside. Breakfast was simple but filling. And I got to try this Quinoa drink I’ve been hearing so much about. It’s delicious!! The drive to the hike was stunning. The mountains and rivers were beautiful. The hike was spectacular also. The landscape is unique - like being on the moon. We saw eagles, a condor and chinchillas. Got so many beautiful photos. This excursion is the highlight of my trip to Peru!!!

An Experience

Wow where to begin, a great day out in the Andes with Carlos and Cusi. A spectacular drive up through many switchbacks to reach San Pedro De Casta and then the breathtaking Marcahuasi stone forest is something everyone should do at least once in their lifetime. So peaceful it truly is a wonder. So sit back and enjoy the ride. And a tip of my hat to Carlos who is not only great company but an expert driver also. Thank you Carlos and Cusi.

Worth the detour

The best! Highlight of my trip!

This is the absolute best tour I’ve had in my entire life! I had such a great time. This was a retreat for sure. Best tour guide ever. Carlos is the best! Book this or you’ll regret not choosing this tour. Not only is the view on top of the mountain the best. Carlos gives you a whole experience. He drove as far to the top as possible and the locals in the mountains know him and he respects everyone. It was just a breath of fresh air. Loved it.

Wonderful day trip from Lima!

Samantha_Y, Nov 2022
What an awesome experience! I was in Lima for a week for work and wanted to book a trip outside of the city. I looked into a few of the more popular day trips, but all of them seemed to lead to other crowded/hectic experiences. I love hiking in the PNW and stumbled upon this opportunity to explore a lesser frequented hike in the Andes. The trip starts off early and Carlos picked myself and another solo traveler up for the 2+ hour journey out of the city. As the other reviews mentioned, driving in Lima/the Andes/Peru is an experience of its own, so just trust the process and snuggle Cusi (not sure if that's spelled correctly), his pup that came along on the journey with us and loves to curl up in your lap. We stopped at a roadside stall for a quick breakfast then made our way to the entrance of the park. Carlos has worked on building a relationship with local community and it was really cool to see how invested he was in their success. We arrived early, which was great as it was warm out and we saw only 2 other people the entire hike (when we got back down a tour bus was arriving!) The hike itself was stunning - really short actual hike, but the elevation can definitely impact you if you're not used to it. Carlos took the time explaining the cultural significance behind the Stone Forest, pointing out the faces/characters in the rocks, and you could feel how excited he was to share this area with us. He was also a great photographer! Travelling solo frequently, I often forget to get pictures of myself and he was awesome at asking us for our camera so he could get all the good angles :). He led us through the 'forest' and we encountered a bunch of grazing cows where we stopped for some snacks. Overall, a really chill experience and it felt like I got to see a very unique part of Peru, Highly recommend to anyone visiting!

Amazing day outside of Lima

Kathleen_F, Jul 2022
This was a great way to get outside of Lima. The trip out there takes a while and includes several hours on a winding dirt road, but the journey was well worth it. Our guide Rodrigo was fantastic. He did a great job explaining things along the way and sharing his knowledge of the local culture. He was patient as we struggled to get up the hills in altitude, and made sure we felt okay throughout. He was also a fantastic driver and despite the dirt roads with steep drop-offs, I never felt scared once as we made our way up and down the mountain.
