Overview
Get onto the Penas Blancas River in La Fortuna with your naturalist guide and kayak for a half day and see all the wildlife you can, and then finish with a local ranch tour and snacks from the garden. We had a fantastic time with our kayaking guide Christopher! It was very relaxing and fun!
It rained on and off but that didn’t affect our experience! We saw monkeys, lots of birds, iguanas, crocodile, bats and unfortunately no sloths!
We kayaked in a small group in front of many rafts which was perfect!
The snack afterwards at Tita Yolanda’s Kitchen was well done and the chocolate education was great!
The only negative thing was the prior communication on pick up. It was confusing and eventually we called and had a Spanish speaking friend confirm that we would be picked up at our Airbnb.
So we woke up over an hour too early!
We would highly recommend this kayaking safari tour!!!

My 7 year old and I had a great time kayaking, and we basically had a private tour, as we were the only two kayakers and there were only a few people on one raft behind us. We lucked out with the weather as it had rained a lot the previous day. The river was beautiful. Kayaking was easy and it was so peaceful looking around at the animals and scenery. The snack of tortillas, fresh cheese, and fried plantains at the end was a nice treat as well as the brief chocolate demonstration and tasting.

This was such an incredible experience. We were the only ones in our kayak group so it was more of a private tour but we saw so many animals the entire trip down the River. Lots of monkeys, crocodiles, colorful birds, bats, toucans, owls. What a trip! Thank you so much :)

Decent half day activity. The kayaking is fun, sometimes a bit tricky to focus on the wildlife though so I’d recommend going for the raft float tour if you’re more interested in wildlife spotting

My family (including two 15-year olds and one 8-year old) had a great time on this tour. After a quick review on how to steer and turn, our guide (Beto) took our kayaks in front of the rafts that everyone else was riding in, and it felt like a private experience. He pointed out lots of animals, including two crocodiles, howler monkeys, iguanas, blue herons, kingfishers, and a few other birds. He also took lots of photos of our group and the animals we saw. It was a fun and beautiful experience. I highly recommend this tour!

This was fun and challenging at times. Christopher was our guide and did a great job finding what animals he could and getting some howler monkeys worked up. We saw a tiny Sloth butt, a medium crocodile and 2 tiny ones, iguana, several birds and a few monkeys. The treat was stopping the tour bus to finally see 2 large sloths up close and also a little baby Sloth. The kayak float on the river was great and the tortilla snack and drinks at the end were delicious. Only thing I would suggest is a little more info on how to prepare for the trip. What to bring, what not to bring, extra clothes if you want. Things for people to think through if they have never kayaked before. Chris was funny and made sure everyone had a great time and once on the water it was very peaceful.

My daughter has to go alone as I was unwell. She had an amazing time and really enjoyed the tour. She said her guide Roy was excellent and really looked after her, showing her all the animals. She saw a baby crocodile, iguanas and monkeys. Just disappointed that I couldn’t go. Thank you for a great experience for her.

The guides were knowledgeable about the animals in the area and kept an eye out for us to stop and take pictures. They were cautious about keeping us safe and they were very fun and kept us laughing. This was one of the highlights of our trip!

I loved our experience! The guides were great and we saw many animals including howler monkeys, boa constrictors, lizards, owls, butterflies, and crocodiles. I liked the bonus experience learning about the cacao and the chocolate making process. Would recommend!!

An absolutely wonderful kayak experience!!! We met at the office and were taken to the river via shuttle. We had a wonderful time in our kayak and got to see a lot of wildlife! Our guide David was great! We never felt rushed going down the river and experiencing the wildlife. In the end, we even got a nice snack and a chocolate-making demonstration with tasting! We would absolutely recommend Canoa Adventure for the Wildlife Safari Float by Kayak!

This tour was absolutely amazing!! I give it 10 Stars. It was so organized. The kayak trip down the river was amazing! All through the jungle with tons of Howler Monkeys above us. The noises they make were majestic. The scenery was beyond words… so beautiful. If you take this trip, use the kayaks, you are much more mobile, and the river is very safe!! Crocodiles all over too! And we saw tons nof birdie and huge mIguanas. Great trip! Thank you

We went with the two person kayak, but there was also a six person raft in our group. Pretty easy paddling - IF you have some kayak experience. If you don't have experience you should stick with the raft. Our guide was great and helped us spot LOTS of wildlife. Really nice refreshments and chocolate demonstration after getting off the water.

Our first time in La Fortuna was great and we had such a good time kayaking with Bryan and his team! Pick up was timely and the ride to the river start was about 30 minutes. They sorted us into floating rafts or kayaks and we had a team lead. This was my partner’s first time kayaking and our leader was patient with teaching him the ropes and assisted us if we get stuck in shallow areas. They pointed out cool wildlife like sloths, monkeys, bats, and speckled owls. After we finished kayaking, they provided a snack on shore and a complimentary chocolate tasting and short lesson. Don’t hesitate to book this tour!

Wonderful experience, gentle
float with great guide. My family of eight range of age 13 to 76 participated. We saw sloths, crocodiles. Following the float, our guide demonstrated how chocolate is made. We sampled cocoa beans and chocolate.

We had a really great time on this adventure, seeing a great diversity of wildlife, including crocodiles, a boa constrictor, white and black owls, howler monkeys, long-nosed bats and a variety of birds. Our guides, Saul and Miguel, were great - very patient with us, despite our lack of kayaking skills. The entire experience was very well done for us to enjoy as tourists.

We had a wonderful time! The guides and driver and the ladies at the office were all very nice and welcoming. The float down the river was very relaxing and enjoyable. Joe, our guide, was so knowledgeable. We got lucky and saw lots of wildlife including monkeys, a sloth, iguanas, a toucan, an owl, crocodiles, and many beautiful birds. Even if we had not seen what we did, it would have still been great. The snacks and coffee at end were a mice treat, too. Definitely recommend!!
