This trip is so well rounded and overall a wonderful experience. Our guides Manuel and Roy were fantastic and provided so much information along the way. The hike was perfect as it wasn’t super hard but not super easy either; just the right amount of challenging. The hot springs were beautiful but a little crowded as we went during Costa Rican holiday. Still a lovely experience and would highly recommend!

Such an amazing & inclusive experience.
Hike: moderately intense as there are ~100 steps you have to climb through the terrain. Our 5&9 year old kids were with us and enjoyed it however my 5 year old got tired around the last 15 minutes. The hike is 2-2.5 hours then you go to the separate lunch location
Lunch: good food consisting of rice, beans, chips, pork or chicken + salad. The restaurant has one side for your guess but the other side has additional items for purchase and the fresa (strawberry ice) + cafe con leche were amazing
Hot springs: separate location from the hike, not far from lunch. This place exceeded our expectations as it contained 18 diff hot & cold springs +2 water slides for kids. We drove separately and were able to stay as long as we wanted once the tour was over
Tour: Franklin our guide, was amazing and very knowledgeable and passionate about the information. We drove 2.5 hours in from San Juan & even though we were late, they sent us an alternate location to meet them instead of us using the bus services. This worked out great because they allow 1.5 hours for the springs but we stayed an additional hours with our kids.

My tour guide was very informative, very friendly and very intelligent, young and gentlemen. The tour went smoothly we were not rushed

Wow this was a PACKED day! The tour length says "approximately 6 hours" but our day was 10.5 hours start-to-finish (and we were the last ones picked up in the morning). The tour guides, Carlos and JuanCarlos, were fantastic. Be aware there is a fair amount of transportation time on the bus. And, I was surprised by how physically rigorous the day was. The waterfall part of the day was really fun (except for those stairs) and awe-inspiring. The first part of the day with the presentation of the indigenous people is fascinating and such a valuable experience. The volcano hike was really informative and beautiful. There is no way I could have done two tours like that during a trip, it was so tiring. But, I am so glad that we did it. It was a wonderful way to see a few very worthwhile sites in La Fortuna.

Erroll was a terrific guide, very informative and helpful. The views were spectacular. The hike was a bit of a challenge for a couple in their sixties, but well worth it.

This is the second tour by Red Lava I went. I previously went to the full day tour. The description of itinerary and what are included were different between 2 tours. While the full day tour stated Mirador El Silencio, this one said 'Rainforest Reserve'. While the full day tour listed hot spring entrance fee, this one didn't. Therefore, I assumed we were going to a different nature reserve and a free hotspring for this one. It turned out we also went Silencio and walked identical route, except one part. We went to the same hot spring. Although I still enjoyed it for the second time, I would have picked a different tour to see different places.
I wish they listed the places to visit clearly, using the same description if they are the same reserve and hotspring.

Really enjoyed it! A very nice package for a reasonable price. The hike was about 2.5 hours and well worth it. So helpful to have a guide to show you what’s around. Lunch at local restaurant was very good. Our
family (with 2 boys 19 and 16) had a blast.

Good value for the price! The hiking guide was competent, pointed us to some nice wildlife and explained the vulcano quite well.
The hot springs were beautiful and relaxing.
This tour had a better value for the price compared to other tours I've done in CR so far.

Fun trip with about 5km hike. Saw some cool wildlife (snakes, birds, lizards). Lunch was delicious. Thermal spa was great fun.

Max was a wonderful guide who accommodated us well & was very knowledgeable! Lunch at the Rainforest cafe was perfect, & we were amazed at the Thermalites Hot Springs. This tour is an incredible experience, especially for such a reasonable price!!

Great experience. We joined this trip with my mother who’s above 60 and my son who’s six years old. All of us were able to complete and enjoy the trip. Frank who was our guide kept the whole experience interesting and challenging at the same time. Lunch was very filling. I recommend for families who want to explore without being exhausted.

Good value (transportation from hotel, entrance, very good guide, lunch and hot springs) and well executed. The vulcano hike was good and at the level advertised, learned some interesting things and got a lot of scenery and in general had a good time. Afterwards we went for a nice lunch. We didn't go to the hotsprings since we had our own in the hotel.

Great tour! Traveled with two seniors and the guides were great and provided options for shorter routes and made sure everyone was safe. It rained the entire time but was still fun and informative. The price is great for the pick up/drop off, lunch and guides.

Walking on the lava and seeing all the orchids blooming was the most memorable part of the trip. Our guide Errol also gave us insight into the plants of the forest and their healing properties.

I expected 4,5 hour hike. And we just went for view point and than make little round around which was not hiking at all… it was little walk and it definitely didnt bring value for money.
Lunch was - food - not great not terrible
Hot Springs - pleasant surprise. It was nice cozy warm - best part of the tour.

We had a wonderful experience on the tour with our guide Christian, who was able to show us vast amounts of wildlife and share huge knowledge about the local plants and animals as well as history about the volcano and surrounding area!

Great tour with Franklin who was the happiest tour guide with loads of knowledge about the local area and environment. He brought joy to the rainy day and we were lucky to get some great pictures of the volcano as the day cleared up. The lunch was tasty and hot springs a great end to the tour :) Would recommend!

Great trip with kids! I did Red Lava’s full day tour that includes the waterfall when I was traveling solo. If you have a short time I recommend that one as you can see everything in one day. I picked this morning tour to have a shorter day and it also ended up being a lot less crowded which made it more personalized. Red Lava doesn’t charge for kids under 6 and has a kid rate for kids under 11.

We went during rainy season, first thing in the morning. It was a long drive for us from Guancaste. The hike was great, authentic rain forest experience. There was a lot of rain, mud, bugs and moderate hike. The guide was informative (Carlos), and we saw vipers. Unfortunately when we reached the top we couldn’t see the volcano. The clouds cleared up for us to see it while we were relaxing in the hot spring.
