Except for the churches at the beginning and end of the walk, everything else is seen from the street. The guide was a nice guy who cares a lot about his neighborhood and is very helpful.

Honestly, I didn’t know much about Istanbul’s history until I joined this trip. Our trip guide, Yunus, was a nice guy and told us a lot of interesting stories about history. I’m happy I came.

What a fabulous tour! After seeing the main tourist sites in the old town, it was great to see two smaller, more residential neighborhoods. Both were enjoyable to walk through, with many shops and restaurants that we would come back to wander through. It was a good mix of specific sites and walking the streets (one big hill). The pace was perfect, not rushed, with plenty of history contrasted with current conditions. A morning well-spent!

Walking though charming neighbourhoods with an informative guide. Good pace, lots of information, interesting stops. A different aspect of Istanbul - not the hectic atmosphere of Sultanahmet. The tour finished just in time for lunch- we then walked around a bit more and made our way back to town in our own time.

Excellent morning exploring an area that is off-the-beaten track in IST. Recommemded for those who have already done the usual. Also rather picturesque.

A nice guided tour in that gives a good insight to the less known history of Istanbul. All thanks to a very knowledgeable guide.

We joined the Half Day Fener-Balat Walking Tour and absolutely loved it! The colorful streets, history, and atmosphere were incredible, but what made the experience truly special was our guide Kübra. She was so friendly, informative, and passionate about the area. She shared all the right details and stories that made the tour memorable and enjoyable from start to finish. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Istanbul — thank you, Kübra, for such a lovely day!

Kubra is fantastic host and story teller. Managed to keep my kids engaged throughout ...not easy for teens especially when it comes to history. Thoroughly recommended!

This is by far my favorite tour! The guide was extremely knowledgeable and did a wonderful job engaging everyone in the group. She’s an excellent storyteller and made the history come alive, keeping the experience fun and interesting from start to finish. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience!

The Fener and Balat tour was wonderful. Kubra, our guide, was very knowledgeable about history, and she was also kind and considerate. I learned a lot and enjoyed the vibrant neighborhoods. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to gain a deeper insight into these ethnically diverse and historically interesting areas. As Kubra said, Fener and Balat are more than just colorful stairs.

What a nice and interesting tour this was. Yunus the tour guide made this tour special with all his history knowledge.
Selim_B, Aug 2025
Best walking tour I ever had with a guide who is very passionate about his mission to bring life and attention to the local community he loves. Very inspiring and the tour itself was interesting as well for seeing how locals live in Istanbul rather than hitting the overhyped, overpriced tourist sites.
Marco_A, Aug 2025
Janus is an excellent guide with tremendous enthusiasm for sharing the local history of Balat. He makes inspirational insights that is very much appreciated.
Elaine_B, Jul 2025
A bit hilly but otherwise is a good walk in the neighbourhood. Yunus, our guide is knowledgeable and passionate of preserving the history of the area.

Yunus is an exceptional tour guide. His English is quite good and he’s easy to hear. Yunus shares so much historical information of the area and in an enjoyable way. The Balat & Fener neighborhoods are worth learning about and supporting. The tour is well worth doing! My partner and I are glad we did it through Viator and Yunus.
Eliza_p, May 2025
Yunus has created a very well organized and unique tour guide experience! We travelled back centuries ago and got to know about the history of the Fener-Balat area in the most engaging and enjoyable way! I’ m grateful for the opportunity to have explored these vibrant and colorful areas and discovered the Turkish delicacies they offer! Really appreciated! Many thanks Yunus for your energy, passion and the insights you shared with us!
Stefan_S, Apr 2025
Very good tour. Yunus is a
great ambasador dor the district where he grew up. 2500 years of Greek, Roman, Osman and late Turkish history are getting to life in a lively, lately reborn, district.
Saskia_G, Apr 2025
