Our tour started with St. George's Church and we were lucky enough to see the Patriarch, Bartholomew, when we visited the church. Our guide was happy for us to wait for this special occasion, even though it meant that the tour finished later than planned. The two areas we visited are areas that are under development. We had plenty to photograph and had a good walk up and down the hills. We passed a synagogue and finished at the Iron Church. In a city where 1100 years of Christianity and an even longer Jewish history that seems mostly ignored, it was a refreshing change.

Kadir was a great tourist guide. The information he gave us was really interesting and even thought the weather wasnt very nice, he managed to make us have a very pleasant day. The trip is totally worth it.

Excellent experience! Kadir was warm and welcoming and tailored everything to my needs. He communicated clearly before the tour so I would know where to meet and what to expect. He even helped me with the tram so I would get back to my hotel safely after the tour. He is very knowledgeable about the sites and history of the colorful houses, orthodox churches and neighborhood in general. He allowed plenty of time for questions and photos. Fener Balat is pretty well known for antique shops and he had no issue with me stopping to look at anything. In fact, he encouraged it stating souvenirs were cheaper in this area. Keep in mind this is a relaxed tour, but it is a walking tour and there are steep cobblestone hills to climb. You will be getting your exercise.

I joined a day trip walking tour in Balat and I really enjoyed it. Balat has beautiful streets, colorful houses, and a special history. Our guide was very friendly and easy to understand. It is fascinating! Fener and Balat are very beautiful districts with many colorful houses. Prices are reasonable, not touristic. You can experience a more local atmosphere and find many nice places to explore. I highly recommend trying Turkish coffee cooked in sand. It is also a very important area for Christians and Jews, with many churches and synagogues. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and friendly. If you have time, you should definitely walk through these streets with a tour guide!
