Itinerary

After a handy pickup from the Old Quarter in Hanoi sit back and admire the views of the countryside as you head northeast to mountainous Sapa. Avoid uncomfortable, crowded buses by traveling in a spacious limousine bus with your small group.

On arrival in Sapa you’ll get the chance to stretch your legs after the journey on a trek to rural villages, which include Cat Ca, Lao Chai, Y LinhnHo, and Ta Van. Meet the local indigenous people and see how they live, and enjoy an intimate encounter that would be difficult without the help of a guide. Admire the mountainous landscape and the terraced rice fields for which the area is famous.

Overnight, stay in your choice of a dorm room, homestay, bungalow, or 3- or 4-star hotel. All meals are included, so you don’t need to worry about paying out of pocket.

Hike to some more scenic villages around Sapa before returning to Hanoi later on day two.

Beautiful place to visit....

Gerhard_S, Sep 2025
Beautiful place to visit. Hotel was wonderful. Hiking downhill (and then taking a taxi back to the top) was great! Tour guide was easy going...(if he would have given us more history - it would have been 5 stars!)

I DO NOT Recommend

gabkatiscru, Jun 2025
This was so disappointing! The communication was awful and imagine being a foreigner and not being able to speak the language and good luck finding someone who speaks English. I had high hopes because WhatsApp communication was great before the trip started. After that it was a mess. There was no limousine van, it was a car. A smelly car for 5 hours. And no one communicated that change. A driver showed up who only spoke Vietnamese but all he said was Sapa and we were expected to get in the car. No guide, no nothing, no explanation, no answer when I WhatsApp messaged. We arrive to Sapa and the tour guide got switched 3 times again without telling us. Then no car to take us to the first village, we had to walk. Second day was better but again a completely different guide. The Sapa hotel was dirty. After waiting an hour, the concierge said the limousine van wasn’t coming and we were going in another, you guessed it, smelly car. Sapa is beautiful but book a different excursion than this one.

Sapa

Di_a, Jun 2025
Our guide provided an experience we will never forget. Her knowledge of the area and the ability to explain local culture, history and lifestyle, was wonderful.

A great tour guide

FatemehA, Jan 2025
I was lucky to have a very smart, compassionate and talented young lady, Ms. VU as my guide. She was very professional and helpful!

Travel agency disorganized

Stacy_C, Nov 2024
The driver was coughing and gagging both to Sa Pa and back to Hanoi. The bus was dirty. When we arrive at hotel no one was there to greet us and hotel did not have our name. We had to contact the travel agency for information. It was very disorganized. However, the actual tour guide on location was absolutely wonderful on tour to Cat Cat Village. The next day for trekking, the group was too large and we got separated from tour guide. The local women had to help us. Because they help us we had to buy their goods.

Nice & refreshing

ASHIT_J, Oct 2024
We had a great tour to SAPA. Lot of hiking on both the days and quite frankly little tiring and exhausted we all were when the tour ended. Scenes were breathtaking, visit to Cat Cat village was interesting with waterfalls, local music & dance. Views from SAPA VISTA facing the vallley were one of the best you can get from the room in SAPA. I recommend to & fro journey from Hanoy by sleeper bus ( 1x1 setting ). 6.5 hours sitting in limo is not a good idea. Otherwise all good.

Beautiful Scenery, Unorganized Tour

Rachel_T, Oct 2024
The scenery is stunning and the local guide is friendly and informative. The rest of the tour is highly unorganized and ad hoc. Communication from the tour organizer/travel consultant is not great and sometimes entirely inaccurate. If you are well prepared and manage your expectations, it will be an enjoyable trip. Know that the trails are incredibly muddy and slippery. Waterproof hiking shoes are necessary. There were members of our group that were not informed of the conditions ahead of time and were woefully ill prepared for the trekking. One nearly slid off a muddy embankment. The tribal ladies are friendly and will offer you a hand along the way. They will ask where you are from, how old you are, and what your name is. They will then aggressively try to sell you their handicrafts. They will follow you on all of your treks so be prepared to either firmly tell them you won’t be shopping or come with cash and a willingness to buy. The homestay is lovely and the meals are delicious. Despite arriving late in the evening right before dinner though, the bungalow rooms were not ready when we arrived. The transportation to and from Sapa and the tour start was a mess and I would recommend arranging your own to avoid all the hassle and miscommunications with the tour operator. Taking the “luxury van” seemed like a good option, but I would avoid it! It seems travelers that took the sleeper bus had a much better experience. Overall the villages and region are beautiful and the homestay is a nice experience. It makes up for some of the headaches with the tour operator. If I were to do it again, I would visit these villages but not book this tour.

Wet, muddy, slippery and dangerous.

John_P, Sep 2024
Our walking tour should not have gone ahead. The walking roads were downright dangerous. We should have been taken down by a car. If not for my guide I would have fallen over a number of times and compensation would have applied. The guide was heat and arguably saved me from a serious accident or worse.

Really good trip, was...

Kristy_W, Jul 2024
Really good trip, was better than I was expecting! Bit unorganised with the buses once arrived in Sapa to and from the villages but it all worked out in the end (after my guide put me on a motorbike coz the bus didn’t turn up). Great scenery, home stay was so cute and all the people were so friendly. Would definitely go again and stay longer next time.

Amazing experience

Leanne_E, Jul 2024
Our guide Zua was one of the best guides I’ve ever had. She was friendly, knowledgeable and had very good English. The views are absolutely amazing, as was our home stay. The limousine car was also very comfortable for the trip from HANOÏ. Hiking shoes are a must. I highly recommend this tour

Super fun muddy culturally immersive experience!!

Isabella_W, Jul 2024
Amazing trip cannot recommend enough!! The description was a little vague originally, but if you take this trip, you will be hiking down from the town of Sapa into 4 little villages. The hike is very muddy but extremely fun because the locals help you the entire hike. Our tour guide was Ai, and she was amazing; she helped us get the best prices and get the best souvenirs. We stayed at the home stay bungalow and the food and company was amazing. They gave us “yummy water” which was strong alcohol that gives you no hangover! If you go make sure you take a lot a lot of cash so that you can support the locals and purchase brackets, wall hangings, hair bands, clothes, and much more- everything is handmade and extremely good quality.

Do the trek but not the homestay.

Wendy_H, Jun 2024
Did not give this a 5 star due to the overnight homestay. The family I stayed with were extremely unfriendly and didn't even introduce themselves at all. The only person who spoke English never introduced herself and whilst eating dinner had her mobile phone on some TV show she was watching with the volume on full making it all feel extremely uncomfortable as you felt like you were interrupting her show if you spoke. The trek I felt was absolutely awesome and am so glad I did this but would strongly recommend not to do this homestay. I am sure that there are many other homestays that would be more friendly and be more welcoming.

Not the best experience

Danai_M, May 2024
The trekking was generally good and the hotel was nice, however the communication with the tour operators was awful, they were responding to the message very late and or guide for the trekking couldn’t speak English so they were they only once we could communicate. Also on our way back the driver was very bad!! It took him 1 hour or so more to drop us off because he was talking to his phone the entire drive! I don’t recommend this trip!

A great 2-day tour to Sapa including an outstanding trek (Sapa - Y Linh Ho - Lao Chai - Ta Van)

RonAvraham_F, Apr 2024
A 2-day tour to Sapa from Hanoi, well worth the long 6-hour ride from Hanoi (and back). The ride was smooth and comfortable (with two stops along the way). We stayed at the Sapa Charm Hotel (a 4-star hotel) - highly recommended (including their wonderful Hot Pot for lunch/dinner). Our local tour guide in Sapa (Rua) was charming and very knowledgable. The trek on day 1 to Cat Cat village was OK (considering we arrived in Sapa at 2pm), though Cat Cat village itself is a bit too touristy in our opinion. The trek on day 2 (Sapa - Y Linh Ho - Lao Chai - Ta Van) was just amazing - a unique (and quite intensive) 5-hour trek through wonderful rice terraces and beautiful villages (we were also very fortunate and the weather was excellent). All in all - a highly recommended tour !

Best Trekking Tour

Marlene_B, Mar 2024
By far this has been the most unique and special experience we've had in Vietnam! Harley, the tour coordinator, was great at communicating and sending messages with updates. The drivers were on time. We took a couple of breaks in between Hanoi and Sapa and vice-versa. The mountains and rice terraces were breathtaking! Each village was unique in that they were different tribes with their own Hmong dialect. The best of all was our guide Ai! She was not only professional but she was sweet also. She tailored the trekking according to our abilities and climate. I highly recommend this tour!

Sa Pa trip

Nam_H, Mar 2024
The scenery and kindness from the local people and tour guide. Was hoping we would get more of a history/cultural lesson of Sa Pa though. Overall, a good trip.

Good tour except for the driver

Siew_G, Feb 2024
Tour was really good. Harley arranged the tour from picking us up from our hotel by Luxury Limousine van to the hotel stay, the trekking led by Zuo was excellent. However we were not happy with the driver who drove us back from Sapa to Hanoi. He was rather rude and unprofessional. Because of that, I’ll give one star less.

Excellent experience with n amazing guide

James_I, Jan 2024
This was a fantastic way to get out of the over developed town of Sapa and into the surrounding countryside. The experience was made even more special due our guide May, from the Black Hmong village. May's level of English is the best we have experienced in the 3 weeks spent in Vietnam and she answered all my questions about the Hmong lifestyle. She's also bright and bubbly and looked after our group well. She went to lgreat engths to arrange an alternative route for one 76yr old customer who couldn't manage the steep, slippery terrain. (Please do not take on this hike if you are not physically capable). The accomodation was fine however we would have preferred to pay less nd skip the included lunch and dinner as the food was not the best that Sapa had to offer. Definitely give this a go and ask for May as your guide.

Nice rice fields, good tour if you have limited time

Nathalie_H, Dec 2023
Nice tour if you want to experience Sapa but have limited time like we did. Everything was arranged well. Hotel Sapa Vista was good and food was good. Tour and guide was good. We especially liked the second day with trekking through 3 villages and rice fields even though the rice fields were a bit empty, due to the season, still very beautiful. Cat Cat was a bit dissapointing as it feels like it is build for tourists. It looked nice, just not authentic. Nice to breath in the fresh air in this beautiful region.

Good experience, hoped for more information prior to tour

Andrew_M, Oct 2023
Nice to hear about the local stories from one of the tour guides. Lovely to stay in the home stay but would have been nice to spend more time with the family and talk about their culture and rural life. The trek was good but we had hoped to know more information about it ie the timings, distance, where we were staying and eating. I can appreciate it is difficult to organise all these things with lots of different tourists and abilitites, but it would’ve been nice to be informed a bit more.

Amazing Sapa

Janelle_D, Oct 2023
We had a beautiful friendly local guide (Lu) who shared stories as we hiked to Catcat village and then through 3 other local villages the following day. Lovely 5* accomodation with good meals at local restaurants.

A great experience with...

Stuart_I, Sep 2023
A great experience with the tour guides but the drivers didn’t drop me at the destination. The hotel was also very good

Awesome Sa Pa 😃

Ernst_W, Jul 2023
Great guides, and accommodation. The hikes where fantastic. Definitely worth visiting for 2 or 3 days

Come prepared to go with the flow and you will not be disappointed!

Amanda_F, Apr 2023
Overall: I would totally go on this amazing trip again, and the tour guides are so knowledgeable and fun! The hotel was pretty good, too, considering the overall cost (expect above average for the hotel). The biggest negative is transportation. I would say if you are someone who likes a more rigid schedule, I would not recommend this. We are good with "going with the flow" when its expected, but it took 2 hours for the bus to get us after the designated pick up time (we were in the heart of the Old Quarter, so traffic was very heavy). The ride there was smooth and I was able to nap (5ish hours), but the ride home was extremely bumpy and I could not sleep well. The food provided was fine, but we ended up eating out in Sapa on our overnight stay. It seemed like a lot of companies do this service simultaneously and use different hotels, so check the transportation situation as well as hotel (I will say this tours transportation was not the worst I heard of on our trip). Mu (sorry if spelling is off) was our tour guide and if she's yours be prepared to get your steps in! She takes you down the most beautiful, scenic paths and it makes the experience so enjoyable. She was the best part of the trip. Overall, you will not go wrong with this trip so long as you aren't expecting a 4.5 to 5 star trip. With all its quirks, this was still my favorite part of our trip!

Outstanding scenery!

Michelle_W, Apr 2023
After a 5-hour trip to Sapa, we were dropped off at a hostel restaurant for a delicious lunch. Our tour guide met us there and took us to our hotel to get checked in. After an hour or so we went to Cat Cat village with the guide. Lots of photo ops in this unique village. Others dressed up in local clothing. Dinner was included back at the hotel but we walked into town instead to eat. Make sure to check out the incredibly inexpensive North Face coats. The next day we enjoyed a wonderful buffet breakfast before going on a 5 1/2 hour trek up and down the rice paddy terraces. Absolutely breathtaking beyond words! Make sure to bring cash to buy a scarf, purse or jewelry! Eat a plentiful lunch before heading back to Hanoi.

Overnight but lacking luxury.

John_W, Apr 2023
I will begin this review by saying the staff on this trip were great, it was the organisation which was absolutely hopeless. Every Vietnamese person looking after us tried their very best to be hospitable and attentive under very difficult circumstances provided by their tour operators. However, we spent most of the morning before the overnight trip to Sapa trying to get some firm arrangements about pick up times, hotel stays and group numbers. This was quite challenging and again we had to rely on a member of our fantastic hotel staff to translate details over the phone. Our luxury vans/buses were anything but luxurious. The one which picked us up in Hanoi had no suspension and the aircon did not work properly. Our driver did his best and we arrived in Sapa safely. The lunch when we arrived was totally inadequate. We had tofu (which nobody ate) some rice and a plate of broccoli placed in front of us and we were shoved onto a table to share with people we had never met, nor travelled with on the same bus. We then had one more plate of some chicken delivered which was basic and a very small serving. We were then taken to our hotel, the Sapa Charm Hotel which was anything but charming. The beds were so hard we had to search the room for something to make them feel a bit more cushioned. Trying to get anything from the staff, who spoke little English, was almost impossible as they did not understand our requests. We were provided with a basic dinner in the hotel and we were the only people who were eating in a restaurant which sat approximately 100 or more. The food was basic but edible and the whole experience was saved by a nice bottle of wine, for which we paid extra (this was expected). Breakfast the next morning was almost inedible and again, although the staff members were extremely helpful, we were promised a four star standard and this would be lucky to hit two stars. We chose this tour because we were assured the walking was low level and not much of it. The first afternoon we had to walk up and down hills for 3 kilometres over wet, slippery ground. Both myself and my partner have walking issues and we managed OK but we were exhausted by the end and our legs ached from the steep descent and inclines along the route. They then informed us the next day was an eleven kilometre walk through the heat of the day so we could have lunch at a village similar to the one we had experienced on day one. We declined to go and spent the morning in the hotel, went to an arranged spot for lunch and then returned to Hanoi late in the afternoon on another fairly inadequate van/bus with another polite and hospitable driver. We met a lot of other people while on this very long bus ride (five and a half hours each way) who had experienced mostly similar problems which came down to a lack of communication of details/overview of the trip. We trust Viator because we have had some amazing trips with them in the past. This was not the case with this tour. We feel the lack of communication and the poor levels offered for transport, food and accommodation just weren’t up to their usual standard. We really did expect more and we would have paid more for better quality.

Response from Host, Apr 2023

Dear customer, Thank you so much for your feedback and please accept our sincere apology for your experience. On behalf of Crossing Vietnam Tour, we would like to acknowledge your sharings to improve our services. It's great to know that you can see our efforts with our staffs and guides who were enthusiastic to support you during the past time. We have sent the customer’s feedbacks to our whole team and take it seriously to recheck and improve our services. After checking the services carefully, we would like to give some comments as below. Please help us discuss with the customers and send our sincere apology to them. We’re also trying to contact the customers to figure out more details and discuss some offers as our good gesture of compensation. Regarding the van to Sapa, kindly please note that in Vietnam, that limousine van is the best transportation to mountainous area. We did choose the professional transportation suppliers to help the customers have good experience during the journey, especially with the driver. Regarding the trekking distance, it was clearly mentioned in the itinerary, we also weren't noticed in advanced that you have problem in walking and want to shorten the trekking journey while we contacted to arrange prior to the trip. We should have amended some things to be more suitable for you with prior notice. Hope that we should have more information if we have other chance to serve you. Overall, for your feedbacks, we would appreciate and will try our whole team best to improve our services. So hope that we can get in touch to discuss further of the details and give you some offers as our good gesture of compensation. We look forward to hearing from you. Hope you will visit Hanoi, Vietnam again and give us another chance to experience with you. Best regards, Crossing Vietnam Tour

Great Experience

LisaSciortino, Mar 2023
This tour was one of the highlights of our trip for sure. Lilly, our guide, was the icing on the cake. She was sweet and funny and spoke great English. She was a wealth of information. She was my favorite guide by far. It was great learning about the local people and their customs and lifestyle and getting to see the beautiful countryside. Try to go on a dry day as it could be slippery and steep in some parts. We could have done without Cat Cat Village but I would do it again for sure.

Highly Recommended Sapa Tour

DEANNA_P, Feb 2023
Got picked up on time in a luxury van which was nice. Unfortunately we were the last to be picked up so ended up in the back which was not the best for a 6 hour trip. The trip to Sapa was pleasant due to a fellow passenger who was Vietnamese and very friendly. He translated for us since the driver did not speak English. This came in very handy at rest stops. The included meals were very delicious, especially our dinner at our hotel, Sapa Charm hotel, which was great. Friendly staff, great food and the room was spacious and had everything we needed. The Cat Cat Village tour was good, very ‘touristy’ but worth a visit for its waterfall. The second day, trekking to the villages, included a very adventurous trek through the rice fields, with steep muddy slopes (trekking/hiking shoes definitely recommended). Very beautiful landscape, friendly locals and interesting village culture. Both days, our tour guide was Lilly, from one of the local tribes. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable person with a great life story. Very impressed with the fact that she learned English (which was very good) from speaking to tourists. The communication for the trip was at times unclear and left us a bit confused. However, the results definitely outweighed that.

Wonderful experience

Leeza_J, Dec 2022
We had a wonderful experience, our tour guide Miss Denh spoke good English and was super accommodating to our needs. The hotel was better than expected for a 3 star hotel, very cosy and located close to the town’s night life. However the trek was a lot longer and harder than we expected (we're not experienced), and a minor incident to someone in our tour group showed that the guide despite all her (and colleagues’s) best intentions was ill prepared to manage. But all turned out well and we would sum up the overall experience as fantastic and would readily recommend this tour to anyone considering.
