I would highly recommend Cat Ba Express for transport to and from Hanoi to Cat Ba Island. The company communicates proactively to pick you up at or near your hotel in the morning - they actually had a colleague on a scooter meet us as we were walking to the pickup point and direct us to the correct location. And they communicate via WhatsApp to ensure we got a transfer for the bus back to Hanoi. The guides on the bus were incredibly hospitable - Ha gave us a Vietnamese language lesson and some great recommendations. 5 stars!

Transfer were easy and seamless. Bus pickup from hotel in Hanoi, then boat transfer to Cat Ba and then hotel drop off in Cathy Ba. The guide was great and it was relatively cheap (about $17 AUD each way). It’s about a 2 hour drive from Hanoi to the boat and they stop about halfway for a restroom break. Would happily use them again.

They called ahead to let you know when they're almost there to pick you up. They were also clear on the timings and process on how long the bus would take, the boat ride and then the bus on the island to get to your hotel and downtown. They had a tour guide giving travel tips for the island as well!

Very comfortable bus ride. You will be picked up directly from the hotel in Hanoi, taken to the bus, you can decide whether to take the ferry to Cat Ba Island or by cable car (small extra charge) and then be taken to the hotel in Cat Ba! Super Service!
