San Gimigiano and Sienna are both steeped in Italian culture yet both very distinct in size. Sienna being the larger of the two.. if you choose this tour, verify that there will be no street vendor day on your trip to San Gimigiano.. It’s a beautiful town that was diminished by the merchandising in front of beautiful areas. I’ve been there previously and it’s beautiful. Sienna is steeped in history and culture as well.. Be prepared to walk.
Our guide Sarah was absolutely great. She was interesting, informative and extremely helpful. On our tour, she spoke 4 languages. Italian, French, Spanish, and English. Damiano, our coach driver was excellent.. Comfortable and air conditioned coach.

A good pick up and drop off tour. The guide was a microbiology student and quite profession and helpful who leverages WhatApp to identify the places we should visit on our own and also get picked up at the meting points. All good!

On July 8, 2026 I took the Florence Day Trip with Free Time in San Gimignano and Siena, run by Tramvia Napoli. The trip was quite a disaster. Many of the problems could have been prevented by having printed instructions available about meeting points.
The first issue was finding the tour. There were several tour guides at the meeting point with flags and signs, but none for my tour. A guide from one of the other tours escorted me to the bus, which was waiting across the street from the other tours.
When we got to San Gimignano, the tour spread out and people at the end couldn’t hear what was being said. Consequently, I didn’t know where the leaving meeting point would be. The tour guide later sent me an electronic link, but this only worked when internet was available. In these ancient towns with thick high walls, you can’t always get a signal. I did find my way to the meeting point but was cut off from the rest of the people by another big group. Then my tour got so far ahead I couldn’t see where they had gone and ended up having to backtrack to get to the bus, but I finally made it.
Recognizing that I’m a slow walker, the tour guide gave me an electronic link to the bus location and suggested I take a taxi there when it was time to leave. Although he was trying to be helpful, this turned out to be a terrible idea. I started calling for a taxi about an hour ahead of the leave time. I called all the taxi numbers, but they were in Italian without an English option. I asked some kindly Italians to call a taxi for me, but there was no internet available, so I couldn't see the meeting location. I found a restaurant and ordered a coffee to get internet. Another helpful group of Italians called again, and a taxi finally arrived. Of course there was no internet in the taxi, so I spelled out the location for the driver. He had a lot of trouble understanding me but said he knew exactly where I was going. He dropped me in a completely wrong place. I later realized that he’d taken me to Campo car park rather than Campino Car park. If I’d had a written location rather than an electronic one, this confusion wouldn’t have happened.
From then on, I was in constant contact with the tour guide. There were no signs or businesses where I was, so it took awhile to find my location which was in a place the bus couldn’t go. The tour guide had to call a taxi for me. The first taxi couldn’t find the location. (The location is an enormous famous gate to the city, and I stood right under it, but no taxi could be seen.) At this point the tour guide threatened to leave without me. Had this happened I would have called the police to help. (I would have also called my lawyer.)
This situation could have been prevented by having the tour director keep track of everyone on the tour and by having printed directions and addresses for meeting points. I suggest that Viator review its relationship with Tramvia Napoli and assess their level of responsibility for tour participants.
I should note that the scenery on this trip is lovely and the towns are interesting.

Thank you for this detailed review. We sincerely apologize for the distress and communication issues you experienced. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities. We take your feedback seriously, especially regarding the need for printed directions, clearer meeting points, and better support for slow walkers in areas with poor phone signal. We will thoroughly review these aspects with our team to prevent future issues. We hope to welcome you back for a seamless experience.

This was a fantastic day trip from Florence to Siena and San Gimignano. Our tour guide Andrea was fantastic, sharing fascinating stories about each place we visited. Having free time in both cities was a real treat. I highly recommend this tour to everyone.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are thrilled that you enjoyed the day trip to Siena and San Gimignano, and that Andrea's fascinating stories made your day special. It's great to hear you appreciated the free time, too. We hope to welcome you back for another tour soon!

This tour does exactly what it says - they take you to the two towns, give you a brief prior introduction to both places on the bus, set clear meeting times and places when to return to the bus, and leave you to explore by yourself. Perfect for us, not suitable if you want the services of a guide to tell you what you are looking at.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Thank you! You nailed exactly how our tour works: great organization, clear times, and total freedom to explore at your own pace. We are glad this independent format was the perfect fit for your trip. Hope to welcome you on board again!

A convenient way to visit two medieval towns.
Sarah our tour guide provided us with sufficient information before arriving the towns and gave us enough time to explore on our own. She even WhatsApp us the links to the various sites that we should not miss and our meeting points.
The coach was clean and we had a good driver.
Overall, a fantastic day
JenniferSader, Jun 2026
We enjoyed seeing these two beautiful medieval towns at our own pace. Our guide provided us with a list of attractions we could visit if we chose and made sure we knew where and when to meet. The transportation was comfortable once we learned how to operate the air vents.
Donna_C, Jun 2026
A wonderful day spent in two charming towns. The bus ride through Tuscany was comfortable and relaxing. Our terrific tour guide Andrea gave us lots of information along the way. Andrea guided us in the towns before we had time to ourselves to explore.
Fisentzos_F, Jun 2026
The host was very friendly and organised, we were impressed that she could speak multiple languages. It was not a guided tour, they dropped us off to the locations and gave us time to explore the cities independently. We also appreciated the gelato store recommendation.
Trixy_S, Jun 2026
Great trip. Good time to hang out by ourselves. Good balance with tour guide. Recommend going to the meeting point early so you can pick your bus seat.
Julie_D, Jun 2026
My son and I liked this tour. Anytime someone else can do the driving, I’m in! The driver and guide were great. We liked the first stop a bit better than Siena.
It was a little tricky finding the tour bus. Get to the bus station a bit early. There are many buses leaving at the same time.
Leysa_K, May 2026
I thought this would be a GUIDED tour and then free time. It really was just a nice bus ride, a little historical information and then free time. Mostly free time.
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Hi, thanks for your feedback. Our tour schedule defines the presence of a companion throughout the day of the tour but not a guide. The aim of the tour is to leave the right space for our clients to discover the Florentine beauties on their own. We hope to see her soon.
Paul_H, May 2026
Our guide, Andrea, did not show up at the meeting point. Needless to say, all of us on the tour and the bus driver were very frustrated with the lack of a guide and information. The bus driver was going to cancel the tour due lack of a guide. 30 minutes later, the bus driver got a phone call and was told to drive to San Gimignano where the guide met us. It was supposed to be an English only tour and instead it was in French, Italian, Spanish and English. Our guide was very brusque. This did not live up to our expectations and we would appreciate a refund. Thank you.. Paul
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Dear Paul, thank you for your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the initial delay and the frustration caused. However, as the tour was successfully completed and all scheduled destinations were reached with the guide, we regret to inform you that a refund cannot be issued. Tramvia team

San Gimignano & Siena were fabulous. Sarah provided excellent suggestions. The cathedral in Siena is not to be missed! It’s spectacular!
Meg_F, May 2026
Comfortable coach, plenty of time to explore San Gimignano and Sienna. Both absolutely beautiful places. Easy to find the meeting place at the start, and a friendly guide who gave us a very interesting commentary with just the right amount of information. We were also sent links to places to visit so we could plan before we arrived. We enjoyed shopping in San Gimignano and climbed the Torre Grossa for amazing views, and visited the cathedral in Sienna.

The trip was really smooth. Each city offered a different experience, yet an equally entertaining one. Siena was pretty stunning & gives a truly authentic Italian vibe.

Great day. Time on your own in the two cities is so appreciated. Really good advice given by our guide.
Kerry_D, Apr 2026
We greatly enjoyed visiting the two towns. Sara was very helpful and did a good job communicating to our group. We liked that the stops were on your own and that we were back in Florence at 6:00 pm.
There’s a lot of walking to get to the towns, so if you have mobility issues, this is not a good tour to take.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you so much for your kind words! It was a real pleasure having you with us. We hope to see you again soon!
Angela_S, Mar 2026
We thoroughly enjoyed this trip it was perfect for what we wanted. Sarah our guide gave us just the right level of information on the coach before we departed to freely explore the areas on our own, which we prefer. We felt in good hands with our excellent driver and comfortable on the coach.

The cities are beautiful to see and each exquisite in their own unique way. Very worthy of a visit and San Giamignano was my favorite, the roads were well paved, the cathedral was beautiful, the towers were impressive and we had a lovely lunch with saffron (grown there) and truffles.
I got a little motion sickness on the bus and had to stop in Sienna for some pills so if you are prone to motion sickness, take meds before you start. After I took the pills the pharmacist recommended I had no trouble at all.
I’m not a fan of audio guides because I’m not that technical nor did I have ear buds and the idea of holding my phone to my ear for hours was not attractive to me - I prefer tours where audio guides are not necessary.
Trish_T, Mar 2026
Guide and driver were very professional and personable. Both towns were interesting and lovely. Wear comfortable shoes as the walking up and down hills on cobblestone pavement is challenging.
The only reason I didn’t give the experience five stars is because we wished we had been given a bit more history before each town. There was time for maybe 10 minutes of prep before we got to each location.

Totally enjoyed our day visiting Siena and San Gimgiano with Sarah, our guide, and Giorgio, our driver. Friendly, kind, helpful people. Highly recommend.
MATTHEW_R, Feb 2026
The driver was incredible. They only have 1 big bus so there was plenty of room. Otherwise It would have been a tight seat. Our multilingual guide, Sarah did a good job and was always ready to answer questions. Great to get out of Florence for the day and see old stone towns. Met great people and it never seemed too long on the bus.
Lisa_T, Jan 2026
This was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a day trip to Siena and San Gimignano but not a tour with lunch at a winery, etc. I just wanted to do my own thing in both places but not deal with the logistics. We got 2 1/2 hours of free time in each spot with lots of recommendations on what to see, On the bus, the guide sent us Google maps links so we could easily mark the sites. Meeting spots at each location were very clear, both the guide and the driver were super nice, highly recommend.

This was a great way to see the two cities! Would totally recommend. It was easy to get to the bus stop and easy to find the meeting point at each city.
