Itinerary
Your full-day tasting excursion sets off from Edinburgh in the morning. Meet your guide in city center and board a top-of-the-range, 16-seat Mercedes mini-coach for the drive into the Scottish Lowlands. As you travel west, listen as your guide shares fascinating information about Scotland’s most famous drink—many centuries ago called the ‘water of life’ and used as a health tonic. Hear about the high standard of whisky-production that has made Scotland a premier global producer.
North of Glasgow, stop at Glengoyne Distillery in Dumgoyne. Renowned for its distillation process—one of the slowest in the world—Glengoyne makes a masterful art of whisky-making. Tour the grounds, learn about the complex production process and enjoy samples of rich 12- and 18-year old products.
Then head into Trossachs National Park for a beautiful scenic drive through forest-covered terrain and dramatic mountain peaks. Stop near Loch Lomond for a hearty pub lunch (own expense)—good for balancing out a day of whisky tasting.
Afterward, head to Deanston Distillery, situated in a converted cotton mill on the River Teith. Repurposing the mill’s original hydroelectric generators, Deanston is notably the most environmentally friendly distillery in Scotland. Tour the space and enjoy a fun sensory tasting of two different types of single malt Scotch. Test your tastebuds for hints of lemon zest, nutmeg, barley, toffee, cocoa, and vanilla. Don’t forget to stop by the onsite shop to pick up some of your favorite drink before departing.
Relax on ride head back to Edinburgh, arriving by evening.

Great experience, superb host and incredible value. I thought I knew about scotch and that my tastes were set in stone. I learnt so much that every glass I have from now on will be appreciated that much more. The bonus of a stop over at Doune castle (Outlander) was an extra treat.

Great experience! Highly recommend this tour. Our guide, Duncan, was fantastic. Distillery tour with Arthur was so educational and enjoyable. My husband is fairly knowledgeable and Arthur taught him a few things.

Low number of participants was nice. First whisky tour amazing, second was subpar. Lunch was great….
Ilya_M, Aug 2025
Fantastic tour through the countryside on the way to the distilleries. Our tour guide Alistair shared his knowledge of history coupled with entertaining personal anecdotes, all of which enhanced the experience.
Fred_S, Jul 2025
What an amazing day!! What made it even better was Alex, our guide. His sense of humor, knowledge and compassion made this a truly enjoyable tour.
Annette_M, Apr 2025
Such a fun day touring the Glengoyne and the Deanston distilleries. Time for lunch is worked in. We were lucky enough to get a private tour since no one else signed up that day. William was our tour guide and did a wonderful job of giving us so much Scottish history. A long day went so fast and was perfectly paced. 5 stars to the Rabbie’s tours for not canceling just because we were the only booking.

Stefan was a hoot and knew the area well. Food stop was great

Nice guide, knows a lot and funny.
Tour was great, a lot of bonus stops.
Both whiskey stops are really enjoying

Sean was just fantastic! He was fun and informative, just a perfect guide. We visited two whiskey distilleries and enjoyed time out of the city.
Luke_D, Oct 2024
It was a fantastic trip. Dave, our guide was informative and humorous without being overbearing. The two trips to the distilleries were fabulous, with informative guides and great tasting! I was pleased to take a couple of bottles home to enjoy.
The trip to Loch lomond was excellent, and the pub pleasant and the food was good.
Overall, it was the highlight of my trip to Edinburgh and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.
Marley_J, Oct 2024
Loved the whole experience of this. The tour guide was so knowledgeable and entertaining as he drove us around. We also really enjoyed the guides at the distilleries, as someone who doesn’t even like whiskey, I was entertained all day.
Ashraf_H, Sep 2024
My wife and I really enjoyed this excursion. Rhys was a fantastic tour guide, keeping us entertained throughout the journey. He took the time to get to know us and ask if we had any special requests (we got to see Highland cows and Stirling and Doune castles). He also shared his passion for the distilleries with us, and also gave us great recommendations in Edinburgh for our remaining time.
The two distilleries were a great experience and showed the breadth of whisky being produced in Scotland. They both did great presentations that varied significantly, and we had plenty to time to ask questions and enjoy samples. The history of the two varied so much, it was great to hear the two different stories.
In-between, we had a great lunch stop with delicious food.

George the guide and driver was excellent, very friendly, and full of interesting factoids. Glengoyne was very informative, Frank the guide was knowledgeable, and the whisky tastings were great. Deanston was not as good, whisky-wise. The stop for lunch was enjoyable and the weather was perfect!
StevenG_J, Sep 2024
Grant was outstanding. His knowledge of and passion for whisky were evident, not too mention how entertaining he was. He also went above and beyond in helping my elderly father with some difficulties he was having on the day.
I really enjoyed both the Glengoyne and Deanston distillery tours. They were informative and fun, and the whisky's were great
Mehrtash_G, Sep 2024
Very well planned tour. Nice driver and tour guide. Amazing scenery! There was a pub we stopped by for lunch, but the food was not quite up to par.
Flavia_S, Sep 2024
The tour was great, Steven was an excellent tour guide and the distilleries we went to were amazing! The views you get of the highlands are breathtaking too.. highly recommended!
David_E, Aug 2024
The first stop at Glengoyne was interesting and fun - but the private tour of 16 was a packed small bus, which became a 25 person tour when we got to the distillery. Not quite what was advertised. The lunch spot was overcrowded and a tourist spot for a million people. The second tasting place wasn't even ready for us when we arrived. We had a 5 minute run around the distillery and then a very quick tasting of two small drams. The 9.5 hour tour was 6.5 hours on a bus and very limited time actually exploring and tasting whisky.
Response from Host, Aug 2024
Hi David,
I'm sorry to hear that the tour wasn't what you were expecting.
We do detail how many passengers we expect and the type of bus you'll be travelling in so you can make an informed decision before booking. I'm sorry though that you were unhappy with joining other people on your tour of Glengoyne. This is something we don't have control over unfortunately, but I hope that despite the larger numbers you were able to still enjoy the tour very much.
It's disappointing to hear your feedback about the second distillery though. Your second visit is a tasting only, but you should receive at least an hour hear to take your time, explore the surrounding scenery and peruse the whisky selection. I'm sorry this didn't occur and will be sharing your feedback with our team so we can make sure all future visits go as expected.
Once again I'm sorry the tour wasn't as expected but I hope you'll visit us again soon so we can give you a five star experience from start to finish.
Thanks,
Jo

Tour guides were very informative and very knowledgeable about the surroundings. Driver was very professional and used safety first. Thank you girls for a wonderful time.
Stacie_P, May 2024
Willie was knowledgeable and friendly! Loved this tour and the extra info he brought to the drive about the history of the countryside and the villages we were passing through. Both distillery tour guides (Joel at Glengoyne and Kenny at Deanston) were engaging and friendly!
David_s, May 2024
We can strongly recommend this tour..our guide Ian was nice, relaxing and had good stories to tell. And of course some wee dram of whiskey :-)
Peter_S, Apr 2024
Our guide Andy was awesome- extremely knowledgeable and funny and i learned a lot and we had a great group of people on the tour. However, although i enjoyed the distillery tour at glengoyne, having only two minuscule tastings was quite disappointing and at deanston it was the same 2 minuscule pours in a room that was very cold and uncomfortable. i would have expected a tasting of 4 at each-from past experience.
Kristopher_L, Jan 2024
Kylie (if spelt her name right lol) was a great tour guide and took us to see the kelpies cause it was only 2 of us and had time before the 1st distillery, also great on local information regarding what happened in the area, defo recommend to other people to go on this trip
Morten_R, Nov 2023
Our driver, Charlene, was smiling and funny, a good host, and a great storyteller. She made the trip very enjoyable and made everyone well entertained.
Cyndy_G, Oct 2023
Great tour. William and Lizzy, our tour guides were terrific! Funny, informative, lots of historical stories, which may or may not be true...doesn't matter! Distilleries are fun. Learned lots and got to drink scotch!
Paul_R, Oct 2023
The tour at Glen Goyn distillery was first class. Our tour guide Sinclair did a fantastic job. Great experience overall.
John_W, Sep 2023
This tour gets you out into the countryside. First stop was at Glengoyne Distillery. The tasting part of it was very educational. The host was very knowledgeable, and I learned a lot about whiskey. Stopped in a little town for lunch, which was quite good. Also stopped by Sterling Castle for pics. The bus driver/tour guide was very knowledgeable.
kim_h, Sep 2023
Great tours and great whiskey. Enjoyed the tour a lot; however felt like it was a long day for only 2 places
Yeap_G, Sep 2023
It was a fantastic whiskey experience, with Stephen as an excellent tour guide. Nice whiskey tasting
Jason_D, Sep 2023
Our driver Neil was friendly and did his best to make it an enjoyable trip. Glengoyne brought their A-game and gave a wonderful tour. However, Deanston basically rushed us in and out in 15 or 20 mins. It didn’t help that 2 of the 6 people in our tour group dominated the tour with questions and one of them didn’t even like whiskey. I wish people had found a way to redirect her a bit. I wouldn’t burn a whole day for this tour again and would have found my own way.
Response from Host, Sep 2023
Hi Jason,
Thanks so much for reaching out and sharing your feedback. We're really sorry to hear that the tour wasn't exactly what you were hoping for from start to finish.
We really do appreciate your comments though as it helps us to build an understanding of how the tour is working for our customers. Hopefully next time you come along we can make it up to you! And maybe for next time remember we've got plenty of other Whisky tours including a 4 day extravaganza on Islay.
Thanks,
Jo

Wonderful day in the country learning and enjoying whiskey! Rabbie’s did a great job timing the trip perfectly between the distilleries and lunch. First stop at Glengoyne was an amazing trip through the history of whiskey making at a historical distillery. Lunch was wonderful and delicious; with Rabbies’ orchestrating a no wait table for the group. Deanston was a really cool distillery with an interesting and delightful modern history. They did a good job knowing what we already did and adjusted the tour just for us. Loved this tour!
