Then, set out on foot to explore the hidden wynds and closes radiating from the Royal Mile. Stroll through shadowy lanes and courtyards, and listen as your guide details their dark history and horrifying secrets, hearing tales of the criminality and murders once rife here.
Next, head to what is claimed to be the world’s most haunted cemetery: Greyfriars Kirkyard. Walk around the tombstones, and listen to stories of poltergeists, missing bodies, and the graveyard’s famously loyal dog.
Lastly, follow your guide into Edinburgh’s underground vaults. Explore the dark subterranean chambers, and uncover their 400-year history as you hear gruesome snippets about ghosts, torture, murder, witchcraft, and unexplained events.
As you walk, watch and listen or any strange events and noises: many visitors to the vaults have reported weird sensations and sightings.
When it’s time, re-emerge into the streets of the Old Town, where your tour ends when you say goodbye to your guide.

Soldier Jock was the best! His tour was amazing, he was humorous, informative and full of stories of the dark side of Edinburgh.
Scott_M, Jun 2026
The tour was great. Very interesting stories and sites Part of the tour is in a very small space but interesting nonetheless

Great tour, the guide James Douglas was very knowledgeable and funny, he brought great life and entertainment to the whole experience, he got to know each one of us individually and incorporated us into the tour. Thanks
Mark_H, Jun 2026
It was ok. 32 people was maybe too many, couldn’t hear some of what was being said and it was hard to follow some of the stories.
Tessa_D, Jun 2026
Our tour guide was named James and he made some very unprompted racial comments about slavery and restarting the slave trade towards our friend. I get that everyone can get picked on during these tours but this had nothing to do with the actual tour facts. Some comments were made in front of the broader group and others specifically at him while we were walking. Would not recommend booking this tour.
Also, no actual ghost stories, moreso tales about how some people in Edinburgh died super violently

Very intertaining and a lot of history and environment
My family and I really enjoyed the tour and recommend it
Gordon_B, Jun 2026
Absolutely fantastic! Would recommend to anyone who is visiting Edinburgh to go for this. Lots of laughs and information
Ted_W, Jun 2026
Extremely entertaining, especially if you are lucky enough to get Dave Zizzio. While entertaining, it was also informative, learnt a lot about Edinburgh dark history. Highly recommended.
Courtney_P, Jun 2026
I’m always a little worried that these types of tours will be cheesy, but it was a perfect blend of history and supernatural tidbits. Our guide Maggie “half hanged” Dixon was excellent, very knowledgeable and funny
Rachel_S, Jun 2026
We had David Rizzio and he did an awesome job of guiding our tour. He really got into the part and told accurate and scary stories.
Natalie_K, Jun 2026
Robbie Diggs was our tour guide. My daughter Emma was picked (because I volunteered her) to scream during a portion of the tour…which she LOVED.
Our tour guide Robbie was full of fun and interesting stories as well as some sad tales. We had an absolute blast and highly recommend people take this tour. You get to see some of the sights of Edinburgh and hear some ghastly tales.

Soldiers Jack was great! Funny and informative. The walk is brisk but not too bad. Beautiful city! I am not sure I have more to say. Getting to 100 characters is really arbitrary
Amanda_B, Jun 2026
Soldier Jock was our tour guide. He was amazing, personable, informative and the best tour guide you could ask for! We would highly recommend going on this tour!
Richard_M, Jun 2026
Awesome! Soldier Jock was an amazing tour guide covering all dark sides of Edinburgh, while adding a little theatrical flare.

Cassandra was very lively and kept our attention till the end. Storytelling skills were absolutely on point. She had a sense of humour while talking about the darkest of things. Loved that.
Rachel_H, May 2026
Some parts were above ground and some underground. Really informative, equally funny and scary! Would definitely go again
Rebecca_C, May 2026
It was just ok. Since it’s summer solstice, it’s still light out at 10PM. The group was large and the stories were sometimes hard to follow.
Kathryn_M, May 2026
There was a lot of confusion due to a missing tour guide so a replacement was brought in. She was pleasant but perhaps not used to giving this tour.
Gary_M, May 2026
Maggie Dickson was a GREAT guide! Very good narration of the historical facts and stories and the perfect personality for it!
David_I, May 2026
Angus Samson was a well informed interactive guide. The tour was well done. However, there were a few too many people in the tour. It made it challenging to follow her as well as hear her at times.
Erin_M, May 2026
John was amazing, we had such a great time with him. He was funny and extremely informative. My family and I are still talking about it today and our tour was last night. I couldn’t recommend this more!
Kristin_U, May 2026
Maggie was an excellent guide, knowledgeable and entertaining!! We enjoyed the tour and would definitely recommend it!
Kellie_F, May 2026
This is a fun and "spooky" tour! Different and new information about the Old Town of Edinburgh from other tours. Our guide John Kincaid was excellent, his character was fun and on point.
Sanjiv_S, May 2026
"Frank" was a very entertaining guide and gave a great tour. The stories were interesting and the venues very picturesque.
Erica_M, May 2026
Okay, Edinburgh history is disturbing! Very interesting tour! Be ready to walk a little fast though. Very knowledgeable tour guide.
Sherry_S, May 2026
Interesting and informative walking tour covering some of Edinburgh’s dark and ghostly history. Including a trip underground.
Angela_C, May 2026
We had Mr. Weir, he was okay but kind of wished we had a better tour guide. It wasn’t the best as I expected. I have friends who been on this tour and said they had an amazing time. I feel bad as he seemed a bit nervous. Not sure if this was his first tour.
Marina_T, May 2026
It started off really good , however when we came out of the vault , the tour guide never looked back and kept going I was a little left behind on the steps and then we lost the group , tried to ring them but didn’t answer , that was it didn’t proceed with the rest of the tour would’ve thought he would’ve waited until we got out of the vault to proceed
Lisa_R, May 2026
Our guide, Robbie was wonderful and a great storyteller. This tour is more history versus ghost tour. As a historical tour I’d recommend but ghost tour I would skip this one. If you are doing an Edinburgh guided castle tour I think you’ll hear mostly the same thing. Recommend the Real Mary’s Keep
Brock_T, May 2026
Tour guides make the tour. Lafayette made the tour. The underground opportunities were key to the tour. The story telling was on point making the tour.
