My guide was Madge and she was so animated, friendly, and knowledgeable, it really made all the history she was telling us even more enjoyable to listen to. She had stories for everything, connected to folks, gave recommendations as we went, and welcomed questions. It really helped me feel like I understood more of Edinburgh and walked away with lots of fun facts.

Our tour guide Shanna was amazing. She presented history, culture of Scotland very well and entertained us with the stories of the lives of Edinburgh inhabitants. We loved her attention to the details whether those are secret "security" steps in an ancient home or graveyard legends or Harry Potter hotspots. Beautiful! Well done!

A nice introduction to the city

    Mary_B, Apr 2026
Fun, informative with lively and enthusiastic young student guide. We saw a lot, and heard many interesting stories. We got ideas of places we want to visit

    Phenomenal tour!

    Jeffrey_P, Apr 2026
Chris and his apprentice, also Chris, gave us a wonderful tour of the city. They made the tour fun and enlightening. I would rate this tour an A+!

    Know your audience

    Ricki_S, Mar 2026
Tour was great. A highlight of our trip. I just didn’t like the political comments and negative comments about author JK Rowling. Sometimes the tour guide needs to know his audience… when we say we are from Florida USA, that’s a big hint.

    Response from Host, Mar 2026

Hi Ricki_S, thanks for your great review of the tour. I'm sorry if it seemed like your guide entered into a cultural/political debate about JK Rowling. She has done a heck of a lot for tourism in Edinburgh and Scotland, which local tour guides are very grateful for! On our tours we do talk about historical figures (past and present) and we do try to discuss those people in a balanced way, while reflecting how these figures are viewed by the people of Edinburgh and Scotland. Wishing you a safe return to Florida! Best, Chris Walker Owner/Guide Local Eyes Tours

The perfect start to our visit to Edinburgh

    Scott_H, Oct 2025
We took this tour the afternoon of our first day in Edinburgh. It was a wonderful introduction to the city, giving us the necessary understanding of the city’s history to enrich our own exploring as we continued our own sightseeing. Given that we hadn’t slept we were worried we weren’t up for the tour, but no worries our tour guide Madge was informative and entertaining, and was the perfect way to start our holiday.

    Response from Host, Dec 2025

Thank you for your kind review, and it is lovely to hear you enjoyed your tour with Madge! Our History Lovers tour is certainly a great introduction to Edinburgh. Kind regards, Jess at Local Eyes.

Great and fun historical overview of Edinburgh!

    Carolyn_B, Sep 2025
Madge runs a great tour! We were a large group, but she made sure to gather us around her and speak loud enough for all to hear, while still being aware of others trying to get around us. Her stories brought history to life and provided great context and appreciation for the sights around us. The two hours went by quickly and were an excellent way to spend our first jet lagged arrival day in Edinburgh. Thank you Madge!

My guide was Andrew and he was fun and informative. He answered any questions and was great at telling stories of Edinburgh as we walked. We saw some of the key stops of Edinburgh and got some insights into the history of the city. Also gave some great tips for stops to visit after the tour.

Fantastic tour. Very interesting. Zander, our guide, was very skilled at telling us captivating stories about all different eras of Edinburgh’s history. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting. Even if you’ve been to Edinburgh before, as I had, you will hear something new.

    Edinburgh history tour

    Catie_G, Jul 2025
The tour was enjoyable, with lots of stories that involved what we were looking at in our surroundings as well as tying in other locations in the area. The pace was manageable and everything flowed from one thing to another. Kieran was really great, he knows his stuff and led well. It was a surprisingly hot and sunny day and he found lots of shady spots for us to stand in. We learned a lot and had a great time!

    Must do tour.

    Wrong directions

    bbalanmd, Jun 2025
Got the wrong directions texted to us and when we got there - there was no guide. This was after following the exact directions to the location that was texted to my phone.Note - this was different from what the Viator site said was the meeting point. We assumed the starting point changed and went there. We missed the entire tour.

    Response from Host, Jun 2025

Hi, I'm really sorry Tripadvisor sent you the wrong directions for the meeting point. I don't know why or how this could happen, as we don't have control over the emails Tripadvisor sends out. All other guests who booked the tour you were on got to the right meeting point for the tour. I would be very happy for you to join one of our other tours in the next few days, so please do reach out to us. Again, I'm sorry Tripadvisor never sent you the correct meeting details. This has never happened before, but I will do my best to look into it. Kind regards, Chris Walker Owner at Local Eyes Tours
