Very knowledgeable, a lot of fun facts about the history of the castle. If you want to go inside an actual castle this is different it’s an open concept like a village.

Lots of up and down hills at the castle. Guide will wait for you but make sure you’re rested! But the guide was fantastic.

This was a fantastic, insightful & educational tour. Three thousand years of history in two hours! Our tour guide Ben, was passionate, knowledgeable, witty & made all of us feel welcome and included as we navigated the Royal Mike & Edinburgh Castle Court.

To share…..recommend participants be agile to walk a couple miles on uneven stone pavement & sloped inclines & hilly terrain in a crowded city environment.

We had a fantastic experience on the Edinburgh Castle tour. Our guide was brilliant — incredibly knowledgeable about Scottish history, but also really engaging and easy to listen to. He brought the history of the castle to life with interesting stories and explanations rather than just giving us a list of facts. The tour was informative, entertaining and very well paced, and we came away feeling like we had learned so much more about the castle and its history. Definitely one of the highlights of our time in Edinburgh and I’d highly recommend it.

We were lucky to squeeze into this tour at the last minute, and it was well worth it as otherwise we would have missed out on the amazing Edinburgh castle. Alistair is running these tours as his own business, and you can feel that he is really passionate about making it a memorable experience for his audience. He brought the history and anecdotes of Edinburgh and the castle to us with a lot of fun, so no need to be afraid of a dry history lesson.
Definitely worth booking this tour if you are in Edinburgh.

The guide brought no passion to the tour. I would have been more informed if I had rented the head set at the Edinburgh Castle instead. He seemed to be constantly checking his watch.

It was really a fun experience learning the history of Scotland and Edinburgh castle from Alister! He told a great story. It was easy to find the meetup spot and overall I just really enjoyed the tour. Also if you’re an American like me wondering whether to bring a tip, bring one! I felt so bad I didn’t have one for him.

My husband, daughter and I very much enjoyed our Castle tour. Our guide was so friendly, funny & knowledgeable. He seemed to care about everyone in the group in terms of staying together and answered all questions thoroughly. He taught us the most about Edinburgh even though we have been on tours of 2 other sights since meeting him. Highly recommend this tour!

Alistair was a great tour guide. Lots of knowledge, amusing and went at a good pace for the whole group. Alistair referred to the group as the family, and talked about making sure everyone was looking out for each other, which I thought was a nice way to set the scene for the tour. I really enjoyed learning some of the history of the Castle.

Great tour really enjoyed it. Our guide was absolutely amazing and gave a really good tour and explained the history of the castle in great detail. It was our first visit to Edinburgh, and as they say you never get a second chance to make a first impression, he nailed it in the first go. Would really recommend this guide to anyone visiting Edinburgh. Really made my trip to the castle special.

We were lucky enough to be among the people who had the chance to explore Edinburgh Castle with Alistair.
With the Fringe Festival taking place in the city in August, Edinburgh was absolutely packed. We tried so hard, but somehow we could never get tickets for a castle tour. Looking back, I’m so glad we didn’t — otherwise, we would never have had the chance to meet this wonderful young man.
Alistair’s warmth, his genuine respect for and deep connection to his country, and the way he brought every story to life gave us an unforgettable 90 minutes.
We didn’t simply visit Edinburgh Castle with Alistair. We watched a wonderful film — one in which the history, the people and the spirit of Scotland came alive right before our eyes.
I’m a teacher, and I know how difficult it can be to explain the same subject to different classes, one after another. Alistair does this several times a day, yet every time he tells these stories with the same enthusiasm, energy and dedication.
