Visited a rum factory, a chocolate store, a jewelry store, a couple of scenic and historic parts of the city, and a fort. Traveled in a nice, air conditioned van with a great driver and a great tour guide.

Roberto was our tour guide and treated us like family. We shared a wish list of places to visit and he managed to bring us to all of them seamlessly really bringing the charm of Puerto Plata to life for our group of 8 (4 adults and 4 teens). I would highly recommend this tour because it is so much more practical (costs far less than the cruise ship tour) and much more personal (we focused on what we wanted to see). We always felt safe with Roberto which is especially important when traveling with kids. Thanks Roberto!

Tour guide was flexible in where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see. Very nice in adjusting to match our wants and helping to locate after arriving in the other cruise terminal!

This tour was great! We were able to see different areas in Peurto Plata that we would never have done on our own. Roberto made sure we got to experience all the different sites and even took our group photos for us. It was also nice to have an air conditioned vehicle to tour around in on a hot day.

We had an okay experience but I would probably stay on the ship or just hang out in Taino Bay next time. It wasn’t the fault of the tour company - the other tour operators took their passengers to the same or similar places too.
1 - pickup instructions weren’t very clear to me. They ask you to go to the politur detachment which is basically the police station at the very end of the Taino Bay Area past the taxis. If they had said go to by the taxis, that would’ve been easier.
2 - the cable car was too busy. If you want to do the cable car, you need to be off the ship first thing in the morning. I wish I had known this as this was really the main thing I wanted on the tour.
3 - the rum and chocolate stops really aren’t that at all.
The rum tour involves being shuffled through a dark hallway surrounded with barrels and then led into a movie theater where they play a five minute movie about the company. Then they take you into the tasting room where they pass around 8 different types of rum. Then you go to the shop to buy rum. Not a bad experience but definitely not a real distillery tour.
The chocolate stop is a little store front where they sit you down and explain how chocolate is made and give out samples of hot cocoa, dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate. Then you go to the next room over and you can buy chocolate and coffee. Not what I was expecting though the chocolate was very good.
4 - we declined to go to the cigar stop but he did point it out and it looked like a storefront similar to the other stops.
5 - the amber stop left a bad taste in my mouth. They take to this shop where they show you how they process amber and larimar for about three minutes. Then you are pushed into the jewelry shop and they very forcefully try to sell you jewelry. I have no idea if it’s any good or if it’s even real but I do suspect that it is very overpriced. Not sure but the pushiness of the sales people and the fact that we paid for a tour to be taken on a high pressure sales experience.
6 - the pink street, umbrella street, independence square and church are all perfectly fine. Nothing amazing at all and very small/quick but fine.
7 - our guide and driver did take us up to a great view since we couldn’t do the cable car, so that was nice.
Overall, I wouldn’t do this tour or any tour of Puerto Plata. I think they are still trying to find their identity as a major cruise stop. I just don’t think they have enough interesting stuff to have a four hour city tour. In reality, I think they have the cable car (which is probably cool but I don’t know), pink street and umbrella street and that’s about it.

Roberto was the MOST AWESOME tour guide in Puerto Plata and Dehma (think I am spelling his name wrong) in Punta Cana. I cannot begin to tell you how they went above and beyond with customer service. If you want a memorable trip with wonderful people who definitely feel like family, book your excursions through them when in Dominican Republic. When we come back (and because of their wonderful hospitality, we will be back) we will definitely be using this company again!
