    Excellent guides, weak logistics

    AMIR_U, Apr 2025
I hesitated about the score for this activity between 3 and 4 stars. You'll read and understand why. My review is divided into two parts: guides and losgistic support. There's a huge difference between them. Guides - 5 stars. We had a guide in the Sacred Valley tour (don't recall his name). He left back to Cusco on day 1,while we stayed overnight in Ollantaytambo. Miguel and Edwar were our guide in days 2&3 in Machu Picchu. Guides were all excellent. Very knowledgeable. Took care of all members of the group. Were very helpful with unexpected issues that popped up (heavy rain, difficulty of one member to walk the trek, transports, luggage, etc.). Beyond all - they highly expressed their love to their country, its history and heritage, and their passion to present it as much as possible to us, the visitors in Peru. Logistic support - 2 stars: A- Travel agency treats this activity as 2 distinct activities. Customer needs to be the integrator. B- Many people work at the office and they do not update each other nor the guides. E.g., we sent our padsport photos 3 weeks before the tour started, but the Inca Trail guide did not have them at day 2. C- After booking the activity and paying in full, agency texted me that they are sorry but they have no permits fot the Machu Picchu park... They proposed other dates, which I had no choice but to accept. D- Our mobile phone number was copied with errors, so we did not get get updates until day 2. E- We were invited for a physical briefing in the store the day before the tour, but nobody was there. F- Instead, briefing took place athe day 1 at 7pm, when some of us are already on the road and cannot respond to the requirements and recommendations mentioned. G- Dinner at day 1 (Ollantaytambo) appears in the activity published, but at the office they said it is not included. We had to show the mail we got in order to have it included. H- Same for poncho. I- Tunupa Lodge in Ollantaytambo is a 2-star hotel, no more. Agenda says we get a 3-star hotel. Office insisted that they renovated it. Maybe. It is still a 2-star hotel, no more. They do not even have heating in the room nor A/C. We were freezing at night. J- Hotel Ferre Machu Picchu - a basic hotel, no water, no hot drinks, nothing. One can read the many warnings about it in Google. We were unlucky to have no hot water after returning from a 12-hour trekking. All group members experienced the same. It was outrageous! TreXperience - stop immediately working with such poor hotels! And largely improve your management.
