Our guide, Freddy, was excellent and had great knowledge of Quechuan history and culture. The cook, Armando, was also excellent and prepared meals, worthy of a fine restaurant using camp cooking equipment. Finally, our porters were extremely capable, helpful, and kind. On the other hand, the company, Quechuas Expeditions, was disorganized and did not seem very interested in our trip. For example, unlike other companies, whose clients were hiking around us, they did not provide a clean portable toilet, but instead left us to use the atrocious bathroom facilities along the Inca Trail. Also, the guide was not scheduled to accompany us all the way from Machu Picchu to our hotel. Rather, we learned on the third day that he was scheduled to leave us at Machu Picchu and that we would need to get our bus ticket on our own to Machu Picchu Pueblo and find our equipment left by the porters in that town and then find our own way to the train. Thankfully, our guide agreed to stay with us through the process of getting on the train. Otherwise, we would have had a great deal of difficulty trying to negotiate that process. Finally, they did not provide any treated water or filtered water for us. Rather, we had to use our own water filter, which thankfully we had brought along just in case. Even though we paid a top price for this trip, we clearly did not get the same sort of treatment and direction that other hikers received using other companies. I would not recommend using Quechuas Expeditions.
