Sad to say that this was the most disappointing tour I have ever booked.
Despite asking well in advance for packing suggestions - I was unprepared and had to buy a last minute small backpack and rain coat. I was initially told I could bring a backpack and carryon, however, 2 days prior to the tour (once I was already in Peru), I was informed I could only bring a small backpack due to train restrictions.
I was never informed to pack a raincoat and it poured rain. I heard other tour groups who had been recommended to bring a raincoat.
Next, the worst part. I was told when I booked that circuit 3 was the only available ticket, but upon arrival was given a circuit 1 ticket- which is limited to the “good view” for taking photos! When I contacted Freddi about this, he said he made a typo and meant to say circuit 1 was available. Huge fail and did nothing to make up for this massive misfortune!!!!
To top it all off, our guide, although very nice, told us NOTHING about Machu Picchu!!!! I know all about his life, the stray dogs around Peru, where he has traveled, some funny stories about his past clients, etc but came out knowing NOTHING about Machu Picchu.
I have informed Freddi/the tour company and have received no response, no concern, no apology- nothing.
There are clearly some much much better options out there for this tour. Steer clear of this one.

Hi Holly,
I hope to say thank you for your feedback but unfortunatelly your feedback is not precise at all.
Regarding your main concerns let me try to explain the secuence:
About suitcase, Fort he overnight people just carry a small back pack or carryon suitcase, they don´t carry 23kg suitcase as it not necessary for one day tour. By the way this recomendation is poste don the same website of tripadvisor. As you know 23kg suitcases are restrictec even on planes and need top ay extra extra for transportation.
About raincoat, Again this suggestion is also on the website and in the orientation that we provide we advise that raincpat is necessary as this time of the year we are in rainy season. Even the previous night my guide advised you also since you were complaining he offered you a plastic poncho but you did not take it.
Regarding Machupicchu tickets, I personally informed you about and explained about each circuit and during our conversation you did not make a specific request. The way how we assign tickets is according availability at the momento of your reservation. First choice circuit 2 (full experience) but this ticket must be booked even 3 months in advance. Once this one is sold out we inform about the other alternatives and we assign circuit 1 as most people would like to take this circuit. The other way how we assign tickets is when people in writen make the request.
About tour guide, our team are very prepared, I am sorry but the same tour guide that we asisgn to you same day already got 6 poeple 5* reviews from the same group tghat traveled with you same day and same circuit.
Definetely there are some points that we need to keep improving to deliver Good services as we do in general. Our team does not deserve your negative feedback as we were informative with you via whatsapp mosto f the time responding all your questions, we can accept that we encourage to suggest aboit small suitcase but it cant be a major compain for that, regarding Machupicchu ticket, I explained you but there is no specific request from your site I can not accepty is my fault at all as no specific request.
BUT our procedures to book machupicchu tickets is according availability and to avoid this kind of compalin we inform before finalize reservation, for that reason basicaly no complain about type of tickets.
We feel bad that you couldnt enjoy at all the the tour this time but some calm and possitive attitude could have helped.
Best regards
Fred

The tour was ok, but was not what was advertised. We were left to ourselves the whole first day, while the itinerary mentioned the visit to the sacred valley. Also we got to machu picchu at 8 am, while the itinerary mentioned sunrise in machu picchu. The place is nuce though and it is worth it.
Response from Host, Aug 2024
Dear Francesca,
Thank you for your time and sending your feedback. let me point a bit on your complain which unfortunately this time is not fair at all.
1.- According your voucher you purchased the 2-Day Machu Picchu Small-Group Tour from Cusco which not included the sacred valley. Unfortunatelly you selected the wrong tour option at the time of your booking. To help you I even offered you to do a sacred valley in a different day.
2.- Since you seleceted the wrong tour, day one there was nothing to do only travel to Aguas Calientes lowerd elevation than cusco good to keep adjusting with altitude and is a free afternoon.
3.- We provide machupicchu tickets according availability at the time of booking (no one hold tickt) and inform ahead of time about timing additionally in agust is not longer possible to see sunrrise. Actually sunrrise only if you are lucky, machupicchu is the begiing od the forest and most of the time awake cloudy even foggy.
I WILL LIKE TO THANK YOU AGAIN YOUR FEEDBACK WHICH IS HELPING US TO TAKE MORE PRECAUTION AND SENDING MAILS TO DOUBLE CHECK IF THE TOUR OPTION IS THE RIGHT SO WE CAN AVOID FUTURE COMPLAINS.
best regards
Raul

Gary and Jimmy were very knowledgable and interesting to listen to when they were talking about the history of Machu Picchu.
We loved that they picked us up from our hotel, walking with us to the bus station and ensuring we had the right documents.
They were very accommodating because our flights got messed around and they helped as much as they could’ve with that situation!
They also take great pictures, so no need to worry if you don’t have someone to take pictures for you!

Fantastic tour. Luis in particular was an excellent guide and really made the trip informative, adding to our overall experience.
Sophia_L, Oct 2023
I am generally a worry wart and this tour put even me at ease. Transitions from train to bus, pick-ups and dropoffs were all seamless. Our tour guides Luis and Fabrizio had were wonderful, patient, and very knowledgeable. If they tell you some place is the best place to buy something or try a new food, believe them. We never went wrong with any of their recommendations. It was the trip of a lifetime to see a wonder of the world.

Very professional guides and very well organized. Beautiful hotel as well. They were also very helpful with my baby. Thank you so much
Lucy_X, Oct 2022
Fantastic tour with Bernardo who was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable. Bernardo was very friendly and accomodating. He went above and beyond, even looking after us after the tour as we were experiencing food poisoning.
Len_P, Sep 2022
Every aspect of the tour was presented so well that we had no worries. Buses and trains were coordinated so no waiting. Guides were great and tour groups were small enough that everyone got personal attention. We highly recommend Viator.

The chauffeur was probably the best in south America! Thank you so much for making the trip really pleasant.
Michael was the best guide ever! The first day we were the only tourist and Michael costumized our programme to make the best trip for my daugthers, making sure we saw lots of animals and of course Maras and some amazing ruins near the train station. We had the afternoon in Aguascalientes we’re you can get lost i the colourful souvenir market.
Machupichu was of course really interesting because of the location in the mountains but Michael topped the experience by adding interesting knowledge and made sure we got good pictures and the best stories.
The trip is insanely pricey when travelling on a budget but I’m glad we had such a good experience!

The process was made very easy. I wanted upgrades which were accommodated to the Vista Dome Train on PeruRail (HIGHLY recommended) and to have my own hotel room and not share one for an extra charge. Fredi, personally coordinated to come by my hotel the night before my 2-day trip to let me know all the details and to give me the paperwork needed for my trip. Fredi is friendly, professional and thorough. He was always easy to communicate with if I had any questions and made sure I had all the details.
Day 1 - I ended up having a sort of private tour. The driver and Gady were WONDERFUL. Gady is very knowledgeable and gives you enough time to yourself to take in all the sights and culture even with the busy schedule that we had. He gets to know how you'd like to travel and does his very best to accommodate that. Ollantaytambo was beautiful, the salt mines and the presentation for the Chinchero women and their craft. We stopped at a local bar, played a game of throw the disk in the frog and he made sure that I knew exactly how to travel and had everything I needed. I highly recommend Gady. Then, was the VistaDome Train to Aguas Calientes.
Day 2 - I stayed the night at a cute and beautiful boutique hotel Tierra and the next day met with a bigger group for the Machu Picchu hike. It is a once in a lifetime experience.

Machu Picchu is truly breath-taking, but getting there is no easy task for first-timers. This tour made the entire trip easy and relaxing. The guides and drivers were incredibly nice and accommodating. Communication was great, and the hotel in Aguas Calientes was clean and wonderful. The entire trip we felt we were in extremely good hands. Thank you! Word of caution: Wear bug repellent at all times in Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu. We were eaten alive by black flies, and the bites and itching last for weeks!
Sashidhar_K, Dec 2019
Tour operators delivered what was promised on the Viator listing, and more. Our Machu Pichu guide Sergio was quite knowledgeable and extended the tour well more than 3 hours (instead of the promised 2 hours, which would have been very hurried and not as satisfactory).
The weather was not as terrible as it could have been, considering this is in the high Andes, and cooperated just enough to have good Machu Pichu experience.

We opted for the 2-day tour with the Maras and Moray add-on and the Waynapicchu add-on. The company took care of arranging all of the transportation and guides for the different places, and it was an easy way to see a lot without booking multiple tours. Our tour guides, Guido for Maras and Moray and Maria for Machupicchu, provided excellent information and offered to take lots of pictures to remember our trip. Most of the time it was just the two of us, and only one additional person at Machupicchu, which made logistics super easy. Our driver, Jordi, also did a great job.

My tour guides had this trip down to a fine science. The tours were wonderful, as I opted to see Moras and Maray before heading to Machu Picchu. Both guides each day gave us a wonderful sense of history and fascinating information and made sure we had no problems with hotels and travel. Machu Picchu was all I hoped it would be!! And in the end, my train was severely delayed on the return but they had a driver waiting for me to take me back to Cusco and he was lovely! I cant say enough good things about the experience! Would highly recommend them to anyone!!!

I was a single traveler who decided to take this tour to meet my husband who hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. While all of the arrangements were in order, I felt like none of the guides cared if I was there or not. Having travelled quite a bit, I was not afraid the ask questions and seek out my guide, but should not have had to do that. The person greeting me at the train who took me to my accommodation talked on her cell phone the whole time and hardly even greeted me when I identified myself to her. I did not hear from the next day’s guide until after 7pm for a 4:30am meeting time the following morning. It felt like the Machu Picchu guide didn’t care about the small group and certainly didn’t go out of his way to communicate plans or expectations. For the cost of this tour, I was extremely disappointed - it was the low point of my time in Peru.

This tour is awesome. Definitely a must do on your bucket list. However, this is a very active tour, lots of steps and hills. Absolutely beautiful scenery. Tour guides were great very informative. I would highly recommend.
David_G, Jul 2018
I chose this company because of good Viator reviews. Perhaps it was once ok, but our experience was less than stellar. The drivers couldn't speak English. On way there, driver was late
Lauren S, Feb 2018
This was a great, comprehensive tour of the Salt Mines, Maras-Moray, and Machu Picchu. The guides were very friendly and helpful, the transportation logistics were clear and easy to follow, and it was a great way to do the trip over two days.
Monica C, Nov 2017
The tour agency was very thorough. Their driver and tour guide were very professional. We believe we received excellent service at a good value and we had an excellent tour.
LarryE_C, Oct 2017
Freddi and all the associates were punctual, friendly, and eager to help. Our driver to Oluntantambo train station pointed out local sights and stopped to let us get photos. Would use their services again without hesitation.
careed33, Jul 2017
What a great experience from before the tour began until well after. Freddi, the organizer in Cusco, came to my hotel and explained the entire process including times, places, transportation, accommodations, his mobile number, etc. On the way to the train station there was a protest and the taxi driver could not pass so the driver called Freddi and handed me the phone. Freddi explained everything that he was doing to ensure that I make it to Machu Picchu and all was clear and true. Our tour guide was very flexible and patient with the group and seemed to really like his job a reflection of the company.
On the way back from the train to Cusco I lost my purse! After tracking the person who found it in the street Freddi offered to go to the town 90 minutes away, pick up my purse, and shipped it to me in Lima. No question, no complaints, no schooling, he was very focused on doing what needed to be done! in a nutshell FREDDI IS AMAZING and Viator is lucky to have him!!!
Being a single traveler I was nervous about possibly missing details and Viator's process made it easy with multiple email notifications the included tips and must-haves. The staff at the Machu Picchu office was very helpful identifying good restaurants and giving clear instructions. Thank you for the memories!
Sunil B, Mar 2017
Extremely well arranged tour, nowhere was i concerned about being picked up by my tour operator. i got picked up at the airport and taken to Ollantaytambo and then onwards to Aguas Caliente and after the trip to Machu Picchu safely delivered to my hotel in Cusco. Everything worked with great precision.
Minor issues related to drivers great guys not able to speak English and lack of guide for the drive to Ollantaytambo/ Sacred Valley. The hotel in Agua Caliente was acceptable i.e. clean, functional and quite - being away from the river but I do wonder how it managed to get a 3-star rating. Otherwise strongly recommend it.
Lynn B, Jan 2017
Truly an amazing adventure! Other than horseback, the trip to Machu Picchu included travel by just about every other mode of transportation -- plane, car, train, bus, and strenuous walking. The tour coordinator provided through Aviator, Fredi Llamacponcca Huanca, did a fantastic job. He met us and had everything prepared. Didn't have to worry about a single detail. Because I spoke some Spanish, our drivers who spoke almost no English shared much about the area, including history and the people. Hotel in Aguas Calientes was clean, modern, and folks were professional, but room was small and had no closet or even a hook to hang anything. On the other hand, hotel staff delivered our luggage to the train station so we didn't have to go back after the trek to Machu Picchu. Our tour guide at Machu Picchu was Wilfredo, and he was extremely knowledgeable about the site, as well as the history, etc. We have traveled extensively, and this is a place that everyone should have on their bucket list!
