Disappointing

june_l, Aug 2025
Very disappointed. Tour costed $207.52 per person and it was four of us. Advertisement is very deceiving . It’s estimated 12 hour tour, but it was only 10 hours including 2 & 1/2 hour Ferry ride. We were only given one hour at Oui and 2 hour at Fira. It was so crowded and rushed and chaotic. Tour was very in unorganized. This tour is not worth it. If Ferry cost was $105 per person, Big bus taking us to Oia and Fira should not be more than $30 per person. I booked this tour because it had Pick up at my hotel option, but they changed it to no pick up… so I had to drive 45 min . I should just buy Ferry ticket myself and hire a taxi to explore the island…

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Dear Guest, We’re sorry to hear the tour didn’t meet your expectations. The listed duration includes the ferry ride, which is part of the experience. Santorini is one of Greece’s most popular destinations, and while it’s stunning, it can sometimes feel crowded. Regarding the pickup, you had chosen the no transfer option, and we had informed you in advance about the possibility to switch, but this wasn’t arranged. We always strive to ensure our guests have a smooth and enjoyable experience and hope to welcome you on another Cretan Holidays excursion in the future.

Really well organised trip got on ferry and was told what bus to catch at destination for our guided trip around the island of Santorini.

Best tour guide

Jennifer_J, Jul 2025
Roland was hands down the best tour guide we could have gotten. He was friendly, funny, gave us insight on Greek history and vocabulary as well as giving us recommendations on where to eat with the best prices. Definitely made the day very pleasant.

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Dear Jennifer, Thank you for your kind words! We’re thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed the day and that Roland made such a great impression. We hope to see you again on a future excursion!

Highly recommend

Shannon_G, May 2025
Highly recommend! Just read if the transfer picks up at your hotel. They messaged me that they didn’t so we drove to the port & parked, it was super simple. Getting our boat ticket was super easy! I loved that it was informative on the bus and then we were left by ourselves when we got to the two cities. I loved it all. We are so happy we did this day trip. We went in may so it wasn’t super crowded.

Response from Host, May 2025

Dear Shannon, Thank you for sharing your experience! We're happy to hear everything went smoothly and that you enjoyed the balance of guided information and free time. It’s great that you chose to visit in May, such a beautiful time to explore without the crowds.

We got to the port for...

David_B, Sep 2024
We got to the port for 7am first in line and they couldn’t find our name on the list so told us to wait aside until the queue had ended.. this was a very long line. I contacted the tour operator after 20+ minutes not really any resolution. Eventually 10mins before the boat was due to depart we were given a ticket and a reply came back from the tour operator to ask how we were getting along and then 8.30 we did receive a call from the tour operator. We used Viator many times in many countries, this is our worst experience, plenty of tour companies we can use in the future

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Dear David, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and the inconvenience you faced at the port. From our side, we ensured that your reservation was correctly sent to the ship company. However, we understand the frustration caused by the delay, and for that, we are truly sorry. We hope, despite this issue, that you had a wonderful time in Santorini. Your experience is valuable to us, and we will work closely with our partners to prevent this from happening again. We appreciate your understanding and hope to serve you better in the future.

Santorini d.i.y.

Barry_J, Sep 2024
Place was wonderful the tour was rushed the guide entertained but many of his historical facts were wrong. Value for money the ferry cost €13:50 the island is 26 miles long a good Google and a few taxis would have been better and much cheaper

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Dear Barry, Thank you for sharing your feedback and for appreciating the beauty of Santorini. We are always committed to delivering an excellent experience, so we value every review, whether positive or constructive. We would like to clarify a few points about the service you experienced. Our guides are highly experienced assistants who have been leading tours for many years. Many of them are locals who live on Santorini, offering insights and stories you won’t find online. While we respect the convenience of Google, we believe that nothing can truly replace the depth of local knowledge shared by those who know the island best. We always strive to provide accurate and engaging historical information, and we will review the points raised in your feedback to ensure the best possible experience. Regarding the cost, our excursion package includes not just the ferry ticket but also additional services, such as a fully guided tour of the island, bus transportation around Santorini, as well as morning and evening transfers to and from your hotel. These services are designed to offer convenience and ensure that guests can explore the island comfortably without worrying about coordinating transportation. We hope this clarifies the value of our service. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you again in the future for a more tailored experience.

Incredible, surreal experience

Cecilia_M, Jul 2024
Absolutely incredible experience. Amazing way to experience Santorini if you have limited time in Greece. I was in Crete Heraklion so great way to experience Santorini. The ferry (2h from Heraklion to Santorini) was a little old and queues to buy food etc on the ferry was very long. But you forget all that once you’re in beautiful Santorini. Tour guides were really great too.

Response from Host, Jul 2024

Dear Cecilia, Thank you for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that your experience in Santorini was incredible and that it made your limited time in Greece memorable. At Cretan Holidays, ensuring unforgettable guest experiences is our top priority. We appreciate your feedback on the ferry and will take it into consideration as we strive to improve all aspects of the journey. It’s fantastic to know that once you arrived in Santorini, the beauty of the island and the quality of the tour guides made a lasting impression. Thank you again for choosing Cretan Holidays. We look forward to welcoming you on another memorable adventure soon!

Beautiful island, overpriced/disorganized

Bradford_P, Jun 2024
We consider ourselves seasoned travelers and have been very pleased with Viator offerings in the past. However, for what we paid (~$430 USD), this tour was overpriced, disappointingly disorganized, and we do not feel that the tour included what was listed in the ad. Overpriced - after some rough math (ferry pricing, buses on Santorini, etc), we could have visited Santorini on our own for significantly less. Disappointingly disorganized - when we arrived at the Heraklion, Crete port to board the ferry to Santorini, the tour group provided no guidance as to how to obtain our ferry tickets, where to go, etc. There was no set meeting point and we had to rely on the ferry operators for guidance. While the guide on Santorini was friendly and knowledgeable on the bus, the tour group was mostly left on our own to find our way through the towns. The tour company guidance at Santorini port back to Crete was a little better. Same lack of guidance finding our tour bus upon return to Heraklion after the tour. Not as advertised - the ad stated that we would get a boat tour of the caldera and be able to swim. However, once en route on the tour we were told this was at an extra price (30 €ea) and you had to skip the visit to the capital city to participate in the boat tour. Santorini is a beautiful island and is well-worth seeing. But we would recommend visiting on one’s own.

Response from Host, Jun 2024

Dear Bradford, Thank you for your detailed feedback. We're glad you enjoyed Santorini but are sorry the tour didn't meet your expectations. To clarify, the ferry operators manage the transfers and provide guidance at the ports to ensure smooth boarding and transit. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused and for the lack of additional guidance from our team. We are committed to improving our communication and support. Regarding the pricing, our tour includes not just transportation, but also the services of a knowledgeable guide as you already mention and a bus tour of the island, which would incur additional costs if arranged independently. We strive to offer a comprehensive and convenient experience that justifies the price. The optional caldera boat tour is mentioned in our description as an extra activity with an additional cost. We regret any misunderstanding and will make this clearer in our materials. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will use it to make necessary improvements. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. We hope to welcome you on another tour in the future.

Great views from Santorini

Kraig_H, Apr 2024
The views of the cities and islands. Guides was very informative. Restaurant was very good. Thank you

Response from Host, Apr 2024

Dear Kraig_H, Thank you for your kind words! We're thrilled to hear that everything was perfect during your excursion in Santorini with us. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to welcoming you back for more memorable adventures in the future.

Promises made and broken

Rudolf_G, Oct 2023
Trip is advertised with pickup from hotel. There was however no pickup, so had to walk 3 km to the harbour. Trip is advertised with visit to volcano. This however appears to be excluded and has to be purchased as extra for €20. Santorini is beautiful, but these broken promises make the day much less enjoyable.

Response from Host, Oct 2023

Dear Rudolf, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Our guests' satisfaction is always our top priority, so we took your review into serious consideration and conducted an investigation to understand what went wrong. The booking you had made was a "no-transfer" booking, which means you chose not to utilize our transfer service to the port. We offer two options for this excursion: one that includes transfer, which is slightly more expensive, and another without transfer, designed for guests staying near the port or those with a rented car who do not require transportation. Your choice was the option without transportation. Regarding your comments about the visit to the volcano, it's important to note that our description does not promise a visit to the volcano as part of the standard package. The visit is optional and comes with an extra charge. Information about this option is provided during the excursion on the island. We are sorry for any misunderstandings that may have affected your enjoyment of the excursion. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the near future.

Not enough time at Oia. Too long at Thira

Carol_F, Oct 2023
We were given 1.5 hrs at Oia, which was not enough time to see everything. It was so crowded, and took so long to get up to the cliffs, we only saw about 1/2 of what we wanted to see. More time would have been better 2.5 hrs. We then went to Thira where we spent 2.75hrs, which we would rather of spent at Oia. Too long here, 1.5hrs would of been good.

Response from Host, Oct 2023

Dear Carol, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. Our goal is to offer a balanced experience to our guests. Normally, the scheduled time in Oia is approximately 2 hours, and 1.5 to 2 hours in Fira. Due to unexpected conditions such as crowds or traffic on the island, the scheduled program may change, but not significantly. We appreciate your feedback and will share it with our partners for further improvement. Thank you very much, and we hope to see you again soon.

Do it!

Victoria_D, Sep 2023
Worth it! My bf and I originally worried due to some iffy reviews but ultimately decided on this guided tour for the time we wanted to spend and our budget. Going to Santorini for a day independently is expensive and if you have never been there before it can be hard to know how to get around by yourself. As far as some comments made about the itinerary being chaotic. I could see that at first, turns out though, don’t worry. Just line up at the ticket kiosk, grab your ticket, hop on board the sea jet, and know the bus you will get on is hand written on your sea jet ticket. Santorini has much to be explored so if you want to fully experience it, plan to actually stay there a few days. For us, we wanted to see Santorini in a day so this was perfect. We wished there was more time but understood the long journey to get to the island limited things. This trip you get a hint of Oia and Fira (about 1.5 hr - 2.5 hr to explore each area). Our guide Myra was wonderful, she has a lot of interesting facts about the island and gave suggestions on what we may want to do with our time. This trip makes everything convenient if you have limited time.

Response from Host, Sep 2023

Dear Victoria, We're thrilled to hear that you found the excursion to Santorini so good, especially considering the concerns you had from some reviews. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we're delighted that it met your expectations and budget. We understand that Santorini can be a bit overwhelming for first-time visitors, and we aim to make the experience as hassle-free as possible. You've made an excellent point about the itinerary, it might seem chaotic at first, but it's designed for your convenience. We're glad you found it easy to navigate and get on board the sea jet. Santorini is indeed a gem with so much to explore, and we agree that spending a few days there can be an amazing experience. However, we're pleased that our day tour allowed you to get a taste of Oia and Fira, and we're grateful for your understanding of the limitations due to the journey. Thank you and we hope to assist you again soon!

Disappointed

Phil_P, Jun 2023
Being able to say we have been to Santorini and experienced life on the island. Would not go back especially at this time of the year The boat was like a cattle truck pushed on and pushed off. Although booked some time prior to travel still didn’t manage to get seats together for both outward and return journey. There were 5 cruise ships in at the same time which made travelling about in a tour bus an unforgettable experience !

Response from Host, Jun 2023

Dear Phil, Thank you for sharing your experience of Santorini with us. We apologise for any inconvenience you experienced during your visit. We would like to reassure you that the number of passengers on board was within the permitted capacity, although it may have seemed crowded. We understand the impact of having several cruise ships on the island, making it a busy and lively time of the year. Santorini is one of the most famous destinations in the world, so it can be quite busy at times. We appreciate your feedback, which we will use to improve our services. Despite the challenges, we hope you were able to enjoy some aspects of your time on the island.

Awesome

Darin_R, Sep 2022
Christo was wonderful and informative! The views were breathtaking.. Thea has some wonderful restaurants to choose from.

Response from Host, Sep 2022

Thank you so much for your excellent review Darin, It is true that the views in Santorini are breathtaking. It is an amazing place. We hope to see you again soon!

Absolutely horrible customer service for this particular tour

Joe_F, Aug 2022
Difficult to give a review when we didn’t even get to go. Horrible customer service. We were told to wait for a bus pick up to the boat and to be there at 5:50 AM.. we were there early, 5:30 AM to ensure we didn’t miss it. No one ever came. The provided number for the tour operator has a voicemail box that was full. I called so many times and no one ever answered. Finally got in touch with the main Viator customer service line, they couldn’t get in touch with the tour operator either. At that point we asked if we could take a taxi ourselves to the boat, we were told no because they didn’t know the location of the boat. So even though the boat was scheduled to leave at 8:00 AM and we had TWO HOURS to get ourselves to the boat, we were told that we couldn’t go. This was the one thing we were looking forward to the most on this trip. Instead, it ruined our night before as we went to sleep early since it was going to be an early day, and it ruined the day since we didn’t get to go. At that point it was too last minute to book anything else. We are still waiting for a refund.

Crowded and expensive but beautiful

Lani_C, Aug 2022
1. This is expensive for what you get: a ferry ride to Santorini, then a bus ride to Oia (where the blue domes are) and Fierra. You do get some time to explore. You can choose option of seeing volcano for an extra fee. 2. The communication is bad. You will get a ticket with a thousand other people with a number on it. (No one says that) That number is your bus number. Everyone on that ferry is getting on a tour bus. 3. The ferry has food on it. The ferry ride is about 2.5 hours each way. You have an assigned seat on your ticket but you are free to move around. 4. If you want to do the volcano tour it’s a separate $20 a person. You can only purchase this while you’re on the ferry. They will announce it about 1/2 way through ferry ride. 5. Ferry does Not have wifi and only takes cash unless it is close to the island where they can electronically take card payment. My impression all in all was it was very expensive. The ferry ride individually isn’t that expensive. You could probably not pay for the tour and book a ferry and a guide for a better price. You are crammed into a ferry in both directions like a herd of cattle. And people take forever to move. **See picture of crowd into ferry)**I am recommending visiting Santorini but that too was very crowded, but to me, worth the visit. (It doesn’t help I went during prime season)

Response from Host, Aug 2022

Dear Lani C, Thank you for your detailed review. We are really glad that you found Santorini very beautiful. It is true that sometimes there are a lot of people on the island. Santorini is one of the most beautiful places in the world so it is common that many people want to visit the island during their stay in Greece. Regarding the price of the excursion you mentioned, We always try to offer the best possible service and experience to our guests in the best possible price too. it will not be cheaper to have a private guide instead of sharing a guide with a group. Furthermore please have in mind that during summer, specially high season, it is a bit difficult to find an available official guide on the island. Thank you for choosing Cretan Holidays for your excursion and we hope too see you again soon!

I must do trip

mrs_j, May 2022
Fantastic day trip, highly recommend, nice safe driver and lovely friendly guide. Hassle free trip and a grat experience.

Response from Host, Jun 2022

Dear Mrs. J, it is always so nice to read such beautiful reviews from our guests, We hope to see you again soon, Thank you very much!

Not ideal with young kids because of the Ferry.

Gabriela_P, Jul 2021
This is a cautionary tale for parents out there. The tour guide was great and once we got to the island, it would have been fine, however the ferry goes regardless of the tide and it was so rough that like 85% of the people on the ferry were vomiting nonstop. We even took Dramamine ahead of time and they provided sea sickness gum and it didn’t help. We ended up having to buy new clothes since ours were covered not only from our vomit but others as well. The horrible ferry ride caused our youngest to get so sick, we had to book last minute tickets to fly back to avoid her getting worse. She is still recovering from it today. What was supposed a fun day trip turned into a nightmare. Whether you’re traveling with or without kids, get the kitchen sink of motion sickness stuff but you may still throw up if you get unlucky like we did with the awful winds causing the water to be so rough (it was red flag that day). I understand it was always a possibility to get seasick and we thought we us prepared well but it wasn’t enough. I wish we had had the option to cancel or get a partial refund on the day of because the flag status. The tour itself on the island was awesome so that part and the transportation was 5 star. If you choose to do this, take everything you can beforehand to help. I’m not sure it would have even helped with the sea being that rough though, but there were other options you can try.

It was good.

Melissa_S, Jun 2021
This trip was very easy to get to and from. Our guide Maria was well versed in her knowledge of Santorini and fun to listen to. It was nice having the bus for driving around the island. It was a great introduction. Some things I feel need to be specified is that the boat that is mention mentioned is a ferry (ride is 2 hours from Crete) that can hold 100s of people and no tour guide to tell you when you are approaching the caldera. You will find out about it after the fact. The first stop is Oia and you are let off and given about 1.5-2 hours to look around. There is enough time to eat if you chose not to purchase food on the ferry (we were picked up from hotel at 6:10 so bfast was not available). Next you will head to the capital, Thira. You will have 3 hours there. You will have the option to spend one hour there and then ride out to the black sand beach (we really wanted to do that) or you can stay there the whole time. Going to visit the black sand beach was advised as a “waste of time” due to the almost hour drive there and was mentioned several times. We felt pressured and opted out. We stayed and got all the pics we could, got gelato, let the kids go to the fish spa and did light shopping. Overall it was good. Super hot which made it hard with kids. Lots of uneven ground and hills and steps if you have difficulties walking, bad knees or hips. Bring water!! I would book this again, but I’d research a bit more in depth first as not to waste time on finding good picture places, knowing what shops and restaurants are there and strictly for the ease of transport.

Response from Host, Aug 2021

Dear Mellie thank you for your review. Very useful tips and the truth is that due to lots of traffic sometimes it is preferable to spend more time in Fira to enjoy the stay and the time on the island.

Stunning santorini

Downhams68, Oct 2019
Brilliant tour. All transportation was scheduled and run to time. The trip itself was very informative by athina and brilliant driving on the steep roads by our driver. We went to oia first which was extremely busy as three cruise ships were in dock. Athina gave us tips for perfect photos. Travelling onto thira again lots of info en route and lots to see. Final destination voted for on coach was to visit perissa and the black rose pool bar which served tasty food and a chance of a swim in the pool. wCfacilities were good there.

Wasn't worth it

Martha_M, Sep 2019
We were staying in Elounda and started the day at 6:30am for an hour-plus ride to Heraklion followed by a two hour ferry ride to Santorini followed by a 35 minute coach bus trip to Oia. The ferry was big but the water was pretty rough and several people were seasick. In Oia the streets (which are only about 3 people wide) were so packed with tourists you could hardly move. Barely had time to see/do anything and wasted a ton of time trying to find the spot to take the "postcard" shot with the blue cupola (which we never did find). We wanted to go to the black sand beach after Oia but were advised it was another 35 minute bus ride to get there and we would only have about 25-30 minutes at the beach before we would have to get on the bus for the return trip to the port. We decided to continue on to Thira instead, where we literally only had time for lunch and some quick shopping before we had to re-board the bus for our return to the port. Two more hours on the ferry to Heraklion and another hour-plus to Elounda; we didn't get back to our hotel until after 8:00pm. Very long day for very little enjoyment. I will say that the tour was well-run and the people were extremely nice but I would rather have spent the day doing something in Crete instead.

Great day to Santorini- well...

Elisse, Oct 2017
Great day to Santorini- well organised once we got to the island, 3 tour options to choose from. Only problem we had was a slight difference in the name of the boat we were advised to look for- was a bit frantic trying to ask all the different kiosks and make it on time.

Lovely day out but there are a few...

Morgan_T, Jun 2017
Lovely day out but there are a few little things to consider. On pick up out coach didn't have enough seats meaning I have a sit on my husbands lap till we got to the port, which in the heat was not the best start the trip! It is a little school trip like as you are kept to a tight schedule and are only in the towns for around an hour at the most- a lot of the trip is on the coach. If I was to give a suggestion-when given the option to stay in the town, visit the beach or go the the volcano, I would suggest the town. The beach was nice but a little dull and another couple who we spoke to didn't rate the volcano trip which also ran out of food. I would highly recommend this trip but you are not free to wonder as much as you think you can.

Yes it really is that beautiful...

Kenneth_G, Sep 2016
Yes it really is that beautiful. Tour guides were informative and had good senses of humor. Ferry was like managed chaos but comfortable and on time.

La recogida en autobús...

MariadelRoco_G, Jun 2022

Response from Host, Jun 2022

Dear Mariad, Thank you for your review, We are glad to hear that the transport and the ship was well organized without any problems. Regarding the tour, the guide usually gives information in the bus during the tour and when they get off the bus there is also a tour in different places. Then the guests have free time to go where they want and are on their own without a guide until the meeting time for the return to the port. Each guest can go for a meal, shopping or a drink, but usually at this time without the guide. We hope to see you again soon so that you can participate in the other beautiful excursions of Cretan Holidays. Thank you,

Belle journée à Santorin

Laura, Sep 2021

Response from Host, Jul 2022

Thank you very much for your excellent rating Laura, It is a confirmation for us at Cretan Holidays for our service quality. Hope to see you again soon Thank you!

Terrible

SEVERINE_K, Aug 2021
Réservation guide français, retrouver avec guide anglais toute la matinée. Visite du volcan pas faite alors que c'était compris dans le prix. Guide française infecte. Je n'avais jamais eu une telle expérience avec Viator auparavant.
