We had the best day with Benny and Nan. I loved that we got picked up in one of the local red trucks for a ride to the market. Benny showed us all around the market and got us local treats to try in addition to our grocery list for the class. Cooking class was simple, fun and delicious and we had a great time dining next to the beautiful rice paddy after we fixed our meal (during which they gave us recommendations for the next leg of our trip). If you want to support an excellent small business run by some big hearted folks, book with Benny!

I don't even know where to start. I rarely write reviews, but this experience deserves its praise. Firstly, Benny is AMAZING! From the moment I booked the class, she has been incredibly kind, offering (unsolicited) recommendations for things to do while in Chiang Mai, asking about food preferences and allergies, making adjustments to the plan to best suit our schedule, and making sure we felt taken care of.
The trip to the market was an amazing cultural experience. We got to learn about the Chiang Mai agricultural scene, common ingredients and taste some delicious snacks. We never felt rushed and had some time to shop around for things to take back home with us. We loved every second of it.
On arrival to her home, we were greeted by her partner who was equally friendly and welcoming. The set up was great -- she had a beautiful garden and rice field. We were offered refreshments and immediately made to feel right at home. The cooking experience itself was wonderful, well taught, and easy to follow. The food turned out INCREDIBLE! I can't wait to try some of the recipes when I get back home.
This is more than just a cooking class--- it is a wonderful, immersive experience with the kindest hosts you'll ever find. I highly recommend this to anyone and would love to return on my next visit to Chiang Mai.

My wife and I really enjoyed this cooking class. Benny and Nan were so friendly and outgoing. The market tour was really fun along with Benny’s insights. The cooking class itself is very well organized and thought out, the food portion sizes are not too big not too small and the food itself was delicious!

Aan iedereen die een kookcursus overweegt en Chiang Mai bezoekt, voor ons was een dag koken met Benny, Nan en de rest van de familie van Benny's Home Cooking een ultieme ervaring.
Je start de dag (na pick up of een ontmoeting op een meeting point, in ons geval de markt) op de markt. Na een hele warme ontvangst neemt Benny je mee over de markt en leert ze je vanalles over de markt zelf, de ingredienten en de cultuur. Je proeft, ruikt en ervaart. Het is vanaf het begin direct gezellig, een warm bad. Daarna verwelkomt het team je in hun huis. Vooraf heb je trouwens al je gerechten gekozen en je schaft de ingredienten deels aan op de markt, leerzaam. De andere ingredienten komen grotendeels uit hun eigen tuin.
Wij hebben een private class geboekt omdat we vrij ervaren zijn op culinair gebied, vooral mijn partner. Maar ook als je een met een groep kookt is er volop persoonlijke aandacht en begeleiding. Je kookt namelijk altijd in een kleine groep. Hierdoor is het naast alle persoonlijke aandacht en de grapjes die de revue passeren dus ook mogelijk om je eigen menu samen te stellen. Voor ons een groot pluspunt. Wij kookten allebei 4 verschillende gerechten. Dit samen is hun USP en dat merk je, samen met plezier. En dat merk je ook. Benny, haar partner Nan en vrienden en familie stralen het uit. Voor je begint krijg je trouwens nog een rondleiding in hun eigen moes- en kruidentuin. Alles gaat in een relaxed tempo en krijg je je eten niet op? Dan krijg je het mee naar huis. Wij werden verwend met extra mango's, want overschot. En nog een paar lieve cadeaus. En uiteraard het receptenboek.
Kortom, wat ons betreft een dikke aanrader en daarom delen we onze ervaring heel graag met anderen.
