Champagne and emeralds

I had a wonderful time. Emeralds are my birthstone so I was really excited to take this tour. Ricardo was a great instructor. He's very knowledgeable and passionate about his family's business. I really learned a lot about how unique and special emeralds are. The snacks and champagne was great bonus. Jasmine was a great tour guide. I'm planning to take the jewelry making class next time I'm in Cartagena. I would recommend the experience to others. Especially if you were born in May.

Amazing experience with knowledgeable people

Our driver was fantastic—gave us a comprehensive tour of the old city on the way to the museum and continued on our way back. He most certainly did not take the most direct route to or from the museum but made sure he took us to many many noteworthy locations and shared a rich history with us. The museum tour was also incredible. We had a private lecture about emerald formation, excavation, and fabrication. We were given bowls of fresh fruit and bottles of water, along with a sample of raw emerald. We had specimens to examine and compare, and it was an excellent learning experience. The museum itself was very well designed and had creative and intriguing exhibits. The tour finished in the jewelry shop, of course. There was a little pressure to purchase, but I had no problem telling them what I did or didn’t want. I would 100% recommend this excursion to anyone interested in emeralds or just in the history of Cartagena.

The tour was as described, and was exactly what we wanted for a fairly short port visit. Benny, our driver from the Cruise Terminal to the Emerald Museum, gave an excellent commentary during the drive, and varied the route coming and going, a real bonus since it became an impromptu city tour. Carlos then gave us a private tour of the museum. He was excellent, the depth of his knowledge was impressive, and it was much more meaningful than we had expected. The workshop was helpful and interesting. When that was finished we went to the showroom, and there was no pressure. They asked what our budget was and showed us things in our range. All told, we were pleased and thought that it was not only educational and informative, but good value considering what all was included car, driver, private museum tour, workshop, and snacks. We even met the somewhat famous 3 brothers who founded the business. The only glitch was hooking up with Benny at the terminal. All of the private tour personnel were stationed with their name-identifying sighs midway between the ship and the terminal, and the shuttle bus from the ship to the terminal drove right past that point straight to the terminal. I had to walk back to where they were to find our contact. Those folks should be aware of this and station themselves at the shuttle bus stop. Had I not seen the line up from the bus, we might never have found Benny.
