Overview

Make your own emerald jewelry at a 3-hour class at Cartagena’s Caribe Jewelry and Emerald Museum. You’ll work with Colombian emeralds and sterling silver wire, making four projects: a ring, earrings, a pendent, and a bracelet. At the end of the class, choose one piece to take home, with the option to purchase your other projects at the cost of materials. This 3-hour Cartagena jewelry-making class includes pickup and drop-off in the city, with both morning and afternoon classes available.

This is a must do experience. Daniel was the best teacher. Myself and teenage grandson had an amazing time, the jewelry we made is great and the museum was fascinating.

Fun jewelry making experience and museum tour

None of us had made jewelry before and we had fun. Instructors were very friendly and helpful. We made four pieces: necklace, bracelet, ring, and earrings. The necklace and one other piece is included in the price but if you want to keep them all it is extra (we decided to get everything we made). The museum tour was also very nice. Jera, our guide, was very knowledgeable and presented very well the history and process of emerald mining and jewelry production. The tour ends in their store where you can browse their jewelry much of which is high end (we bought a very nice set of earrings from their store). Transportation was arranged by the guide. Total time from when we were picked up at the port to when we were dropped back off was about 3hrs. Overall fun and engaging experience.

My son (13) loves jewellery and gems so this was a great experience. Our instructor was great and really helped us as we made 4 pieces of jewellery. The tour of the museum was also great and we learned a lot. My son loved watching the process of the emeralds being shinned.

Private tour with a very knowledgeable tour guide. Wilfred was awesome . He took care of us from the moment we entered the van until he dropped us off at the pier. I would recommend him a thousands times over. He even had Ivan, the driver, go back around the block so I could shop at the Pandora store. He was gracious enough to stop at a store for coffee for us. From the moment I arrived at the workshop, I was captivated by the intricate details of the emerald cutting and polishing process. My very skilled instructor guided me through each step, sharing fascinating insights into the history and properties of these precious stones. I had an amazing time talking with her as she guided me through the process. The passion and expertise were evident in every word and gesture. The hands-on experience was truly rewarding. I was each given a selection of emeralds to choose from, and with the guidance of my instructor, I designed my own unique pieces of jewelry. Ultimately, this was a sales gimmick. Although our "teacher," Maria, was lovely, this "three hour class" was just a 45 minute class, followed by a two hour Reach-Around Rodeo to trap you in the retail jewelry store. Some notes for the owner: If you sell emerald jewelry, your "handlers" should be wearing your jewelry, even if just loaned for the day.

We were picked up on time and drove to the location for the jewelry making class. Jessica gave us a lot of the history on emeralds and Maria helped us make our jewelry they were both great! The class was well instructed and very kid and adult friendly and also great for solo travelers. After making the jewelry you get in depth look and the museum and are able to purchase emeralds if you would like. Great class, nice people and I would recommend.

This class was absolutely wonderful! Our guide, Daniella (I’m so sorry if this isn’t how her name is spelled), picked us up directly from the hotel and took us to the Caribe Jewelry factory. She was so kind and knowledgeable about the emeralds and the experience was truly personalized. The class was led by an individual instructor who, after observing your progress, decided whether you should work on a more difficult project or not. The class itself was so much fun and geared towards every level. The company has a really beautiful story that you learn as well, and the teachers are from a wonderful program implemented by the company to support people who have very low incomes or are homeless. You get to select one of your pieces to take home, or you can buy others if you choose to. After the class, we were guided around the museum by Daniella who told us everything we needed to know and then saw the workers polish the emeralds and create the jewelry in the different settings. This was one of the most beautiful museums I’ve ever been to and the personalized and hands on experience made it even better. I 100% recommend this. If you are hesitant, go for it. It’s absolutely worth it.

We never actually made it to the experience due to some confusion with our hotel’s front desk sending the guide away, however we were so touched by the apology we received- including offering to schedule us in anytime for free (unfortunately the rest of our time in Cartagena was spoken for). Later on they dropped off some complementary jewelry we were not able to make for ourselves. Hopefully next time we will be able to enjoy the experience!

Amazing experience in Cartagena. You are able to see every single step in the process of jewelry making and then sit down and make some of your own. We ended up purchasing an extra piece that we made to bring home with us before going to the store and purchasing even more. The Colombian Emeralds are so green and beautiful.
