Our guide Daniella was enthusiastic, friendly, and well prepared. This tour was truely immersive: using a public transportation, tasting local fruits, meeting local vendors in the market. Bazuro market is so huge that unless you have a guide or speak Spanish you may get lost. It was a very unique cultural experience.

Raw and Authentic: Experiencing the Real Cartagena at Bazurto

If you want to experience a completely different side of Cartagena beyond the colorful walls and rooftop bars, this Bazurto Market tour is absolutely worth it. My guide, Jesus, brought the market to life with a wealth of knowledge about the history of Bazurto, the realities faced by vendors, and the role the market plays in the everyday life of Cartagena. Some of the highlights included sampling fresh local fruits, receiving a personal art piece by the famous Runner, and enjoying an incredible lunch at Cecilia’s Restaurant served by her son. What made the experience especially memorable were the conversations with vendors throughout the market. Bazurto is raw in every sense of the word — the energy, the sounds, the heat, and yes, even the smells — but that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable. This was a side of Cartagena I’m truly glad I got to see, smell, and experience firsthand. Highly recommended for travelers looking for something authentic, cultural, and eye-opening.

Alvaro was the same guide I had for the City Tour a couple of days back. This time we went to Bazurto Market and went on the Transcaribe bus. I loved that I was able to experience an unfiltered local Cartagena life through the colmenares, the wet market, the kitchen side of Bazurto. Alvaro shares so much knowledge about local Cartagena life and made sure I have some of Sr. Runner’s work and a sample of Cartagena champeta to get to know this very unique sound. Got to try out fresh fruits: lulo, maracuya, grandillas, tamarillo and very sweet pineapples! Thanks again Alvaro!

My wife and I had a great experience with this tour. Our guide was Daniela from Discover Cartagena. Daniela did a great job on educating us on the culture,the food and history of the market. She's very patient and knows what she's doing. I highly recommend this tour.

Daniella was our guide and she was wonderful. She is well versed in the market and its history. Not to mention, she navigates the market like a pro! Many times I thought we were in a never ending cycle of stalls but she knew exactly where we were. This tour's main focus is the food but the market itself is a sampling of so much more the area has to offer from music and culture. Highly recommend. We sampled some native fruits as well as had a meal at Cecilia's.

What a fantastic way to experience life in Cartagena. We had such a great time getting behind the scenes of the basurero market and being welcomed into someone’s home to see how life really is. There is no better way to understand this city and the people but through food and this tour.
