My 18 year old and I went on this trip and we were both had so much fun! Bus ride is long but the seats are cushioned, reclining and comfy for sleeping. Honestly everything went so smoothly. Pink lake was so pretty and boat ride was the best part. Good lunch but the sandwich they gave us for the bus was seriously nasty. Make sure you packs some snacks, water and have you hotel pack you a sandwhich.
Our bus driver and guide were so nice. Don't forget tip for the boat driver, bus driver and tour guide. They deserve it!

Great tour! Very well organised, everything as expected. The drive is long (2h45mins) but it's worth it and the van is very comfortable. Definitely recommended!
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Knowing the journey felt worthwhile, thanks to smooth organization and a comfortable ride, helps future travelers set the right expectations for this route to Las Coloradas and Río Lagartos. We design this full-day experience to blend nature, wildlife and smooth logistics across the Yucatán Peninsula, making longer drives feel rewarding once you reach the pink salt flats and mangroves. Clear planning and reliable timing are part of our standards.
Thank you for sharing your experience with Tourballoon Travel!

It’s great to hear that sharing the experience with your 18-year-old, enjoying the pink lake and especially the boat ride made this day feel fun and memorable for both of you. We design this experience to blend nature, wildlife and smooth logistics across the Yucatán Peninsula, creating meaningful moments for travelers from around the world. Smooth transportation and friendly staff are part of our operational standards, and we appreciate your note about being prepared with snacks for the long ride. Thank you for sharing your experience with Tourballoon Travel!

The pink lake is otherworldly. We had the best guide at the lake that took cool pics for us. Our small group was so much fun.
Response from Host, Nov 2025
The pink lake truly is a surreal sight, and we're glad you had someone there to help capture the moment. Traveling in a small group often makes the experience more personal and enjoyable, and it’s great to hear you had fun all around.
Thanks for choosing Tourballoon Travel Experiences!

Overall a good tour, nice stops, smaller group (21 people). Highlight was the stop at the Crocodile Farm and the River Tour! Really really great! The pink Salt Lakes are totally overrated and not worth the Price. Here is why I can‘t give 5 stars:
- booked English Tour, no English was available at the Pink Salt Lakes and on the Bootstour and even on the crocodile Farm we had to ask the guide if he would translate the feeding instructions in English for us!
- The Guide (Dolphin) was really hard to unterstand due to the mix. Three sentences in Spanish ten words in English, again Spanish. We had also the feeling that he was saying much more in Spanish then in English. Overall I was really happy when we had some time off from him in the boat, he was really over the top Like an actor in a bad made Comedy.
- Super annoying music during the Bus Tour and the guide was singing to the music, when the entire Bus is trying to sleep
- We waited After the Pick-up in the Morning over one hour until the next Bus was coming! No Communication! When we asked after an hour they told us there was an accident on the road and the Bus is stuck in Traffic. Can happen - but why no Communication even when so many drivers were around???
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Thank you for providing your feedback; we have taken note of your positive comments regarding the Crocodile Farm and River Tour. However, we must address the operational points you raised concerning language and communication with necessary clarity.
Regarding the language issue, our guides are professionally certified and fluent in both English and Spanish. They are trained to manage mixed-language groups, and it is a standard practice that the guide addresses the entire group, often speaking a segment in English, followed by the Spanish translation, or vice-versa, to ensure clarity for all. We note that no other English-speaking clients on your particular tour reported any language difficulties. Regarding the morning delay, our standard procedure involves a communication check 15 minutes before your scheduled pick-up to confirm your readiness at the meeting point. If any subsequent delay occurs, we immediately communicate that information to the client as soon as the guide or transport reports it to us. While traffic incidents are unavoidable, our communication protocol is strictly adhered to, and we must confirm that this process was executed as designed in your case. We have fully documented your concerns regarding the guide's demeanor and the music, and will be taking internal action to ensure strict adherence to our professional standards for passenger comfort.

The excursions themselves were absolutely incredible. The local companies running these parts were professional, knowledgeable, and delivered a 10/10 experience. I have nothing but praise for their service and quality. However, these are independent providers, and not the company who organized and transported us throughout the day — and that’s where the problems begin.
On the way to the tour, we were pulled over by immigration. While this wasn’t the tour company’s fault, it would’ve been helpful if the company had clearly advised to bring ID beforehand. Luckily, we had digital copies of our passports on our phone. This caused a delay in time due to a lady being questioned which actually led her to not being allowed to continue.
At the pink lake, we were rushed straight from the tour into changing for the next activity. It was 46°C and we weren't even given 15 minutes to cool down, or asked if we would like to grab a drink or browse the shop before changing and departing for the next activity. I would have loved the chance to support the business directly in the shop they have.
On the way to the next stop, we were given a single warm 500ml bottle of water, which was simply not enough given the extreme temperatures and lack of air circulation in the van. On the site it states you get one bottle of water and you can purchase more, however you can only purchase drinks at the restaurant later in the day around 4pm.
At the restaurant the showers were not hygienic and there was no soap available. A heads-up on this detail via the booking website would have allowed us to bring our own.
The restaurant and food was otherwise great with delicious food and great selection of drinks. However, yet again, we were rushed out immediately after eating — no time for a second drink, no toilet break offered. It felt unnecessarily hurried.
The biggest and most serious issue was our transport back to the hotel. We were placed into a white van (license plate: 95-RB-6X) that had no seatbelts. Shortly after setting off, the driver performed an emergency brake, causing multiple passengers — including myself — to be thrown from their seats. An elderly woman fell to the floor due to the lack of seatbelts, and even worse, the middle row of seats wasn’t secured to the floor of the van. When the driver braked, the entire row of seats shifted, pushing my partner into the back of the front seats and crushing both her and the woman next to her against them. To get out, the loose seats had to be pulled back manually, and metal poles were being moved from somewhere — presumably an attempt to hold the seats in place before the journey began. The woman next to my partner injured her knees and was only taken to a doctor after we refused to get back into the same dangerous, unstable, and likely illegal vehicle. It was an incredibly unsafe and unnecessarily stressful situation.
Final Thoughts:
The individual excursions and local providers: 10/10
The company organizing the tour and transportation: 2/10
I highly recommend visiting these locations — just NOT with this tour company. The poor and dangerous transportation tainted what could have been a perfect day.
Response from Host, Sep 2025
We respectfully clarify that the allegations made in this review are not supported by facts and are contradicted by video evidence of the very vehicle used that day. The van was new, in perfect condition, and fully equipped with seatbelts in every seat. This proof is available to the mutual customer at any time should they wish to review it with us.
Tourballoon Travel is not separate from the local operators — we are one and the same organization, working with licensed federal drivers with over 10 years of experience in tourism. Our vehicles undergo strict inspection, and passenger safety is a non-negotiable priority.
We also note demonstrably inaccurate claims, such as stating that temperatures reached 46 °C in Las Coloradas. Official records confirm that day registered around 30–32 °C, with higher “feels like” due to humidity, but never the extreme number published here.
We encourage future travelers to consider that this review generalizes isolated, unfounded complaints in order to dissuade bookings, despite the customer themselves praising the excursions as “absolutely incredible” and “10/10.” Our Badge of Excellence, earned through consistent quality, speaks louder than speculative statements.
For transparency, we invite the reviewer to contact us directly so we may share the complete set of evidence refuting these claims.

The company provided excellent support, including airport transfers and local guides. The drivers were punctual and professional, and courteous . We’ve been to most of the attractions in the Cancun area so decided to take the long trip to Coloradas. The 3 attractions were great. But it was a long trip, made even longer because this operator took us from Cancun to Playa de Carmen before heading north. This added about 90 minutes to the trip each way. Overall our day was just under 15 hours and could have been 12 hours (for 5 hours at the attractions). Again, the attractions were great but you have to ready for a long ride and try to pick an operator that goes direct.
Response from Host, Mar 2025
Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent Las Coloradas tour experience. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the attractions themselves.
We understand your concern regarding the length of the trip. The tour duration, including travel time, is specified in the product description on our platform. As this is a shared tour, we do make stops to pick up passengers from various locations, including Playa del Carmen (sometimes). This is necessary to accommodate all our guests and ensures the tour can operate efficiently.
We appreciate your understanding and are glad you found the attractions worthwhile. We strive to provide accurate information and a memorable experience for all our guests.
Tamara_K, Jan 2025
A unique experience - the pink salts are an incredible sight, and the boat ride is fantastic - we saw flamingos, pelicans, crocodiles. But taking two stars away for a few reasons: 1) the guide wasn’t engaged at all, and no explanations were provided about the flora and fauna at any of the stops. 2) The final stop was at a crocodile farm which was rather sad looking. 3) The food at lunch could be better. 4) the pick ups weren’t super smooth
Response from Host, Jan 2025
Thank you for sharing your experience. We're pleased you found the pink lakes and boat tour fantastic, and that you enjoyed seeing the wildlife. In response to your concerns: 1) During the tour, we specifically asked how you were enjoying the activity, and you expressed positive satisfaction. Our guides are trained to provide information, and we are confident they do so. 2) The crocodile farm is a local initiative contributing to the local economy and conservation. 3) We acknowledge your feedback on the lunch and are always looking for ways to enhance our services. 4) We are addressing the pick-up logistics to ensure smoother operations. We value your feedback.
Magdalena_G, Jan 2025
Very mixed feelings. The actual itinerary was great and we thoroughly enjoyed the stunning views, spectacular nature and seeing animals in their natural habitat - experience like no other.
However, the organisation of the trip is very much lacking - the pick up spots are random, we waited in one place for 40 minutes with the people's carrier that was supposed to pick us up checking on us and deciding they were there for us driving away, only to come back 20 mins later (with other people in it, some of them for over an hour as the pick up places can be quite far from each other) to actually take us in - then we were all taken to an actual meeting point, where we waited among hords of other people going on different excursions, waiting for the right bus/van to turn up, guides to shout out names and eventually be loaded into the correct vehicle (still doubting you're boarding the right one to the very last minute). Pure chaos.
Unfortunately, the vehicle we ended up in was ancient, was a people's carrier type of van, fully packed and with air con being placed only over some of the seat in a form of old fashioned vents. My partner and I got the seats at the back, which had less space (we are both tall) and with no air vent over us. The journey was a nightmare, stuffy, hot and uncomfortable, I hated every minute of it. On the drive back, both the driver and the guide decided to randomly stop close to the first drop off points and, without a word of explanation, left the van to take some frantic calls for at least 20 mins. They came back and again didn't say a word to anyone to explain what happened...
We got home overheated and very very tired, but luckily the views and the animals, including crocodiles, made up for the discomfort of the journey.
Response from Host, Jan 2025
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're glad to hear you enjoyed the incredible views, the natural beauty, and the unforgettable encounters with wildlife—that’s exactly what we strive to offer.
We appreciate your feedback about the logistics and transportation, as it highlights areas we need to address. Your comments will help us improve and ensure a more seamless experience for future travelers.
We hope the stunning scenery and unique moments will remain as cherished memories, and we’d love the chance to make your next journey even better. 🌟

It’s s long day of traveling. You start early around 6:00, and get back around 20:00. To get the most out of this tour you need to know Spanish, I’m many places you go the English is more used commentary, while the Spanish is where the guides are focused… even though it’s said to be a tour in English. If you are ok to long bus trips the boat ride, the crocodile farm was really worth doing..
Response from Host, Nov 2024
It is well stated the time duration of the tour, that's why we always ask to our customers to read carefully all the details of the tour.
We have never received a complain about the language, all of our certified guides are bilingual.
Lauren_L, Nov 2024
Like others said, only the crocodile farm is fun. Seeing the flamingos was cool during the boat ride. Lake was not that pink. The path to get onto the boat was sketchy. You have to hang onto a wall to walk across which was maybe 6 inches wide. Definitely not safe for children and seniors.
I already expected long hours of commute but coordination is horrible. Pick up was late and you have to waste 2 hrs going in and out of Play del Carmen to pick up others.
Based on others reviews it's all about luck if you get a good guide and bus. We got a 21 seater with no washroom. Even the guide said he doesn't coordinate anything and he is just a subcontractor. If you have issues, contact your agency.
Our guide Arcus didn't do much explanation throughout the tour. I've never been on a tour where the guide doesn't tell you when to meet up so everyone comes back on time. There is no explanation when we stopped for 20+ minutes. Ends up we were waiting to pick someone off who stayed near Temozon. Also like others have said. The bus picks up people not in your tour and drops them off at other meeting points
Expect to eat lunch at 3:30pm because of the time difference. There are some options like chicken or fish but it was mediocre. You do get a lunch box in the beginning but not at all appealing.
The company did have good communication through WhatsApp in the morning before the pickup and asked mid tour how everything was. Have spare change to use the toilets at gas stations etc.
Honestly not worth your day in Cancun to go on this specific tour based on how far everything is.
Response from Host, Nov 2024
Thank you for your feedback. We would like to remind you that hundreds of people visit Las Coloradas every year, and the location is equipped with all the necessary safety measures, making it suitable for all audiences. We have never received feedback of this kind regarding the site's safety.
As stated in the tour description, this is a shared tour, not a private one, so it’s necessary to pick up other passengers at different points. At no time do we mention that the vehicle includes a bathroom, as this is not part of the service features.
Additionally, our guide always informs passengers about the schedules and meeting points at each stop, so it’s important to pay attention to their instructions. We continuously work to provide a complete and pleasant experience for all our clients.
Suranga_R, Oct 2024
Cancun hotel pickup was on time. Tour guide was good and kept us informed throughout the tour. Visiting Las Coloradas and seeing crocodiles, Flamingos, and other water birds during the boat tour in Rio Lagartos were very memorable. There is room for improvement on streamlining hotel pickup for tour participants so that more time can be spent on the tour. Overall, a very enjoyable tour.
Response from Host, Oct 2024
Thank you for sharing your experience! We're delighted to hear that you had a memorable time exploring Las Coloradas and enjoyed the sightings of fauna. It’s great to know our guide kept you well-informed along the way. We appreciate your feedback on the pickups, as it helps us refine the experience. We're glad you had an enjoyable tour overall and hope to see you again on future adventures!
Antony_C, Aug 2024
Let’s start with the positives. Pablo, the guide, was great, helpful and informative especially as the tour seemed borderline chaotic in places. The Mayan mud bath was fun and did make my skin feel softer. The coach had a toilet on board. I read other reviews saying there had not been one but I am glad it did as things could have got ugly on the draining long drives.
Let’s now look at the issues. Firstly, I am not sure if this tour is provided by the company or they are simply a vendor. I got the impression it was the latter as it appeared they provided taxis to and from the meeting points while it was not a TourBalloon Travel branded trip. Even so, the information for this tour is, being generous, misleading.
The literature says a maximum of 12 people. Not accurate. There were 24 people on our tour and room for at least double that. Indeed, on the way back, we left the crocodile farm a little after 3.20pm and arrived in Playa de Carmen at around 7.10pm. The bus picked up at least 20 more people from different tours and we spent the next 90 minutes driving slowly and dropping some people at there hotels. We finally got to our hotel at 9.15pm.
The “tax” is said to be P380 ($20) but we were charged $22.50. One review also said the tax was P480 ($24.68) so I guess it depends on the day how much they ask for.
The “Pink Sea” is actually a lake at a commercial salt company. Yes, it’s pretty but the photos are misleading (you can’t stand in the lake and others look a tad strange). There was a power cut when we arrived (not the fault of the company) so we were not able to change into swimwear in the changing rooms. This entailed having to change in the toilet in the bus, which ate into a lot of time and was awkward.
The boat ride was fun, although – aside from the mud bath – nothing that you can’t see or do in many other places.
The restaurant (which had images that could potentially offend some travelers) was pretty mediocre. Food was okay. It had showers, which was helpful but the power cut meant no aircon or fans (or fridges for ice cold drinks) so it was sweltering. They also shortchanged me after I paid in US dollars and they gave me the change in pesos.
The crocodile farm seems somewhat exploitative rather than about conservation. I wasn’t keen.
While I was expecting a long day, I was not expecting a combined 10 hours or so in transit. That was longer than our flight from the UK and that is a very long day trip that I would say is not worth it
I provided my feedback to the tour operator the following day but never received a response.
Response from Host, Aug 2024
That's why we always recommend reading all the tour information, especially the itinerary and duration. The mentioned limit on the number of people refers to the capacity per reservation, not the total number of participants on the tour. Regarding the restaurant, you are the first person to express a complaint about its quality; until now, we hadn't received any negative feedback. Additionally, we never received any formal complaint from you. If you have proof that you sent it, we would appreciate it if you could share it so we can investigate what happened.
Anna_M, Apr 2024
Don't be late for pick up. They pick u up from hotel, but you will have to get on a bigger bus for the tours at a stop point. Bring extra peso for the tax charge, 480 pesos.
On a day this this, sunny and cloudy with the perfect weather, the visit was breath taking! Never thought I would see a pink lake but wow really was that beautiful! Also, these tour guides at the las coloradas sites really know how to take pictures! Dang they knew how to work the camera for the insta! Please tip them if you can they derserve it!
The boat ride ro wild flamingos and wild crocs are cool too. Again, the beautiful sunny day made everything so much more lovely!
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Thank you for sharing your experience! We are delighted to hear that you found the visit breathtaking, especially the pink lake and that our guides at Las Coloradas exceeded your expectations with their photography skills. We appreciate your comments on the service provided and the reminder to consider tipping the guides, who really strive to deliver a memorable experience. We look forward to seeing you again soon on another equally exciting and beautiful adventure! Thank you again for your kind review.

From Tulum it was definitely a long day, which started at 7.00 and ended at 21.40, with 3.40 hours by car to go and even more to return... BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!
The first part, that of the salt pans, is the least exciting (nothing that is not seen in Sicily, for example). The second one, however, was a terrific experience, we saw all the animals we wanted to see. Lunch was really great and freshly caught fish. Finally, the crocodile reserve fascinated everyone. A special mention goes to Mau, the guide, who waited with me that I was alone for the shuttle to Tulum and always gave me a sense of joy and reliability.
Oh... even the playlists in the car were nice! Congratulations everyone!
