Overall okay

Harshad_T, Jul 2024
We had few problems with Westar: 1. When we arrived, we were told to go to domestic pickup area which was a long walk from international. By the time we reached, the driver left and we had to wait for one hour. 2. When we got to Banff, our room was without window and they refused to change. The room had live bugs. 3. Unfortunately, our jasper trip did not happen, they took us to places like shopping mall instead. We were not given choice. 4. The guide did speak some English, but it was hard to understand. The guides were very nice, it was language barrier. 5. We paid or Columbia Icefield-Jasper. We will need refund and difference for the hotel. 5. It was disappointing to miss Jasper.

Response from Host, Oct 2024

Dear Harshad, Thank you for your feedback, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced. Airport Pickup: We sent you an SMS with pickup instructions before arrival. We understand the long walk to the domestic area was inconvenient, and we regret the wait for the next shuttle. Hotel in Banff: We're sorry for the unsatisfactory room and have reported your concerns to the hotel regarding the window and bugs. Jasper Wildfire Impact: The wildfires unfortunately affected your Jasper trip. We had to adjust the itinerary for safety, and we appreciate your understanding. Language Barrier: We are working on improving the English of our guides to avoid future issues. Refund: We have refunded the Glacier Explorer + Skywalk. Please check your account. We hope to provide you with a better experience on your next trip! Westar Travel.

West star travel is not good if you don't speak mandarin.

SAIDEANGELICA_M, Jan 2024
West star travel is for mandarin speakers, as the tour guides and drivers say everything in that language, then in broken english.

Calgary to Banff

Linda_G, Sep 2023
Great tour guide. Safe driver. Glorious mountains. Good pace. Look forward to 3 more days the guide worked hard and was pleasant. Good listener. Excellent English

Memorable Trip!

DauThi_H, Oct 2022
I have seen what I wanted to see through the four day schedule. The meal on the third day was not fresh and did not bring out on time. The meal on the last day was very good, still there was only one choice: chicken!!! Staff was working hard. Well organized and most of the time was on time. Michael was working hard, dedicated and serviable. He speaks quite well English to provide with good narratives and anecdotes

Terrible experience, would not recommend ever

KYUNGHEE_Y, Aug 2022
what is Westar travel? Is that Chinese company? I can't speak Chinese , however most people of our group(except 3 people) are Chinese, Travel Guide was always speaking Chinese for 5 days. Furthermore, small bus tour was so terrible.. Bus was so old, shaking ,noisy and dirty(maybe never clean up).The driver had driven so fast(140 km) in highway(speed limit 90km) .. This trip was nightmare for me..Your company ruined my birthday gift.

Response from Host, Aug 2022

Hello Kyung,  Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that our service did not meet your expectations, and apologize for the unpleasant experience that you had. All our tours are provided in both Chinese and English with bilingual guides. Guides speak both languages to provide the best experience and knowledge about the attractions to our guests. The proportion of English and Chinese spoken on the tour should be equal; however if this was not the case after our investigation. We will speak to our guide to make improvements. Thank you for bringing this to our attention; we have taken your feedback seriously for the responsible department to follow up on the deficiency. We’re sorry to hear about the state of the bus. The coach is cleaned everyday before our guests' board. As there’s lots of debris in the mountains, it’s an uphill battle to keep the vehicle spotless. We will try to do better with maintaining cleanliness.  If you would like to provide more details for our investigation, please feel free to email us at customercare@westartravel.ca. Thanks again for taking the time to share your comment.

Great itinerary but mostly in Chinese with a $10 per day per person tip whether or not the guide deserves it

Adriaan_v, Aug 2022
First of all, the company Westar has a terrible policy of final sale. So if you make an error in booking you do not get a second chance. The 5 day itinerary was excellent but conducted mostly in Chinese. We were two of the only 3 people that did not speak chinese. We were told the guide would contact us the day before the tour began. That did not happen. When I called the office, I was told that the guide would contact that evening. That did not happen. What really is insulting, the guides demand a $10 per day tip. This is offensive. As a customer, I decide what to tip. The company may suggest but not demand. As a result, the guide who did not contact me before going was not tipped. The driver, who was excellent, was tipped $100 after the five day tour. He deserved it. This company needs to understand how we work in the western world and stop making this demand. We are not in China. We paid extra fees for doing the extra excursions including lunches. The first lunch at the Fairmont was excellent but the remainder were terrible especially at the icefields. A dried up hamburger and fries are not acceptable. At another place we were promised a buffet and wound up with a sandwich. In conclusion I would not recomment this company. I would find another company with similar itinerary.

Hello Adriaan, Thank you for your feedback. Our guests' satisfaction is our top priority, we are saddened to hear that our service did not meet your expectations and apologize for your unpleasant experience. Please do understand the cancellation policy flexibility is restricted by the limited resources in the National Parks. However, we will try to accommodate our guests if there are issues that come up and need to change; we welcome you to discuss with us the possibilities of amendments; though the result is not guaranteed, we are more than happy to adjust and help our guests to sort out things for a smooth travel journey. All our tours are provided in both Chinese and English with bilingual guides. They speak both languages to give guests the best experience and knowledge about the attractions. The proportion of English and Chinese spoken on tour should be equal. However, it seems that this was not the case for you. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we will investigate it with the tour guide to ensure our future guest experience. We’re very sorry to know that you didn’t receive the guide’s message on the pick-up day. The busy season has caused the error. For this mistake, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Please rest assured we value every guest and strive to provide a pleasant journey. Regarding the gratuity for the driver/guide is much appreciated but not mandatory. Westar Travel maintains the principle of voluntary tipping for our guides/drivers, and we apologize for the way that the guide expressed the gratuities did not meet our standards. We’re delighted that you enjoyed the lunch at Fairmont. Unfortunately, the rest of the lunch package did not meet your expectations. We thank you very much for your feedback; this is valuable for us to review with our suppliers, to improve and provide our future guests with a great dining experience. Thank you again for your feedback; we hope to have another opportunity to provide the travel service to you and assure it would be a wonderful experience on your next trip with us. If you would like to provide more details on your concerns, please feel free to email us at customercare@westartravel.ca.
