Overview

You will be picked up in the city center hotel in the morning.

Itinerary

Meet your personal guide and driver upon pickup from your centrally located hotel in Beijing. You'll depart in the morning for the World Heritage–listed Ming Tombs, located about 1 hour away.

On arrival, walk with your guide along a portion of the Spirit Way, a 4.5-mile (7-km) path leading to 13 tombs where emperors of the Ming Dynasty were buried. Note the impressive sculptures of guardian animals and officials lining the route. Then hop back in your private vehicle to reach the 15th-century mausoleum called Chang Tomb, a 30-acre (12-hectare) complex considered the largest and best preserved of the Ming Tombs.

Next up is the roughly 1-hour drive to another UNESCO site, the Great Wall at Mutianyu. You're provided with lunch at a nearby restaurant before you have about 2 hours to explore this fully restored section with your guide. Hike 30 minutes by foot, or make an easier ascent with an included round-trip cable car or chair lift ride (or you can take the toboggan down).

Snap photos of the scenic surroundings: dense woods and rich pastures that change colors with the seasons. The Mutianyu Great Wall winds along to the crest of a mountain before turning sharply and dipping downhill. Then relax on the 2-hour drive back to Beijing.

We booked this private tour for a party of 3 (two seniors, one adult) and had a wonderful time! Lisa was very friendly, knowledgeable, and spoke English well. On the drive to the Great Wall, she gave us a history lesson on China. Once arrived at the site, we were given the option of cable car or chair lift/toboggan. A member of my party was having alot of problems walking and Lisa was very accommodating with the pace and made sure he was never far behind. The chair lift was an interesting experience, as it never stops or slows upon arrival/departure. While at the Wall, Lisa offered advice on the best locations to take pictures and even took several photos for us. To return back down, I opted for the tobbagon while Lisa escorted the rest of the party to the chairlift. The tobbagon ride down was alot of fun - I highly recommend it! After the Wall, we headed to lunch. Lisa asked if we had any restrictions or preferences, and then ordered the food for us. Everything ordered was delicious! After lunch, it was off to Mings Tombs. Lisa then asked if we were interested in visiting a jade store or tea shop (both of which had come up during casual conversation). There was no pressure to shop whatsoever. But since a member of my party wanted to buy some jade, we decided to stop by. There was a nice history of jade and we saw some craftsmen at work. The jade was high quality and we were given a (what I assume is standard) 30% discount. Lisa was very patient while we shopped. After purchasing the jade, we were driven back to our hotel. The highlight of this tour was definitely the Great Wall and Lisa herself!

This tour is worth the money. Liz, our tour guide, is really nice, friendly and accomodating. She speaks good english and very knowledgeable of her chinese history. She even took us to this restaurant that has good food and tasty food. She really knows where to eat good and tasty food. We've learned a lot about this places that we went to. She explained very well. Very good tour guide. Worth the Money. Thumbs up :
