After hotel pickup in the morning by private vehicle, your tour begins with a visit to Tiananmen Square, one of the largest city squares in the world.
On Chang'an Street, see the Great Hall of the People (Renmin Dahuitang) and the National Museum of China (formerly the National Museum of Chinese History and the Museum of the Chinese Revolution), and take a look at Chairman Mao's Mausoleum (aka Chairman Mao Memorial Hall) in the middle of the square. From the gate, walk to the Forbidden City, the UNESCO World Heritage–listed former Chinese imperial palace. A total of 24 emperors lived and ruled from here, starting with the Ming dynasty and ending with the Qing. You'll spend a couple of hours here exploring.
Then it's time for lunch, which you'll enjoy at a local restaurant before continuing your day tour to the Great Wall at Mutianyu, a typically less-crowded section of the Great Wall of China. After the 1.5-hour drive, you have around two hours here to hike. Choose the round-trip cable car option or ride the chairlift up and then ride the toboggan down to save time and energy.
Your tour then ends with return transport to your hotel.

- Forbidden City tickets require real-name reservation 168 hours (7 days) in advance and often sell out quickly. We highly recommend you book your tour as early as possible. Otherwise, international visitors may need to queue at the entrance to purchase tickets on site.
- Toboggan unavailable for guests over 60, pregnant women and children under 3, as well as in bad weather or long queues. Round-trip chairlift/cable car available instead.

Nancy is an amazing tour guide. It is not easy to travel with kids- especially when it is July and you have to walk for hours! She is very knowledgeable and well prepared for the tour. She even helped us find a restaurant even the day before our tour. The car was very comfortable with AC and our driver, Yang, made us feel safe during the long ride. We had just one full day in Beijing, and as a first-time visitor, I wanted to squeeze in as much as possible. Our new friend Wendy and our driver Mr. Wong did exactly that. Wendy minimized our time waiting in lines and helped us spend as much time as possible where we wanted. She provided great insights into the history of the Forbidden City and made sure to teach us a bit about the local culture. She was able to answer any questions we had, but also made sure we were able to take our time and not feel rushed through everything. It was a good tour and we got to see all the main sites without having to figure out booking logistics and travel. Tiananmen Square is pretty blocked off so we could only really see it from across the road since we wanted to enter for the forbidden city. The guide, Maggie, was very knowledgeable and took us through the forbidden palace even with how crowded it is on summer holidays.
The only couple of hiccups were the jade shop and tea shop which weren't part of the itinerary and we were forced to take part in before moving on. Lunch also wasn't amazing, it was an all you can eat buffet with pretty meh food.
I had a great time on the day but those would be the points that need to be made clear for future guests on the trip.

If you only have one day in Beijing, then this is the tour to do. This was by far the highlight of visiting China and our family of 4 absolutely loved it. Our tour guide Bobo was amazing as she got us in and out of every place we went ahead of the crowds and just shared an incredible amount of all the sites we visited. The Great Wall was a once in a life time experience and all the sites we visited were breathtaking. This is a must do in Beijing.

I had a stopover in Beijing on my way from Shanghai back to Europe, and although I would have loved to stay longer, I decided to make the most of the one full day I had because I had never visited Beijing before.
While searching online, I came across this Viator tour with many excellent reviews, especially mentioning the guide, Lucy. It immediately felt like exactly what I was looking for, so I booked it. Within a very short time, Lucy sent me a warm welcome message with detailed instructions about our meeting point in front of the Forbidden City. She even explained the easiest way to get there and kindly asked me to send a photo of myself so she could recognize me quickly. It was a thoughtful touch that made everything smooth and stress-free from the very beginning.
Our group consisted of only five people, which was perfect. One traveler was from Australia and three were from Indonesia, and everyone was friendly, making the atmosphere relaxed and enjoyable throughout the day.
Lucy paid attention to every single detail. She constantly checked whether anyone needed anything and made sure everyone felt comfortable. Her knowledge of Chinese history and the places we visited was impressive, but what made the biggest difference was the way she shared it. During our visit to the Forbidden City and later during the drive to the Great Wall, she explained the history, culture and architecture in a fascinating and easy-to-understand way. She spoke excellent English, communicated clearly, and created a real sense of confidence and security throughout the entire tour.
The transportation was comfortable with plenty of space, and during much of the journey she continued telling us interesting stories and historical background. At the same time, she had a great sense of balance. She knew exactly when people wanted to listen and when they simply wanted to relax or even take a short nap after the early morning start. We never felt overloaded with information, but we also never felt that anything important was missing. That balance is a rare quality.
Lucy also has a wonderful sense of humor, lots of positive energy, and genuine passion for her work. She never appeared tired or routine, even though she must have done this tour many times. Instead, she came across as enthusiastic, fresh and fully engaged. She was simply a pleasure to listen to and to talk with.
The wireless headset system was another excellent feature. Even in the huge crowds of the Forbidden City, we could hear her perfectly whether we were close to her or several meters away.
She also paid attention to everyone’s individual preferences. Whether someone needed a restroom break, wanted to taste Chinese tea, or had another request, she always tried to accommodate it. Everything was handled calmly and professionally.
One small example says a lot about her attitude. Early that morning I accidentally forgot to pack my umbrella, even though I had planned to bring it because rain had been forecast for the entire day. Lucy immediately arranged for the driver to lend me one. In the end, it hardly rained at all, but the umbrella turned out to be incredibly useful while climbing the Great Wall because it was strong enough to use almost like a walking stick. As a funny bonus, it matched the colors of my outfit almost perfectly, so it actually looked like a fashion accessory rather than just an umbrella!
Everything about this tour was well organized. There were no misunderstandings, no unnecessary delays, and no wasted time. The lunch buffet was excellent, and our whole group sat together, making it another pleasant part of the experience. At every stop, Lucy made sure we always knew exactly where and when to meet again, so nobody ever felt lost or uncertain.
What impressed me most was Lucy’s emotional intelligence. She has a remarkable ability to sense what people need without anyone having to ask. In my opinion, this is something that cannot really be taught—it is a natural talent. I travel a lot and have joined many guided tours around the world, so I have experienced guides ranging from excellent to very disappointing. Lucy is genuinely among the very best I have ever had.
If you are looking for a professionally organized, informative, relaxing and enjoyable day exploring the Forbidden City and the Great Wall in a small group, I can recommend this tour without any hesitation. It was one of the highlights of my trip to China.

I would highly recommend this tour. Our guide, Rita Wang, was excellent, friendly, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable. She explained the history and local culture in a way that was both engaging and easy to understand, which really enhanced our experience.

Wendy our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and short cut all waiting lines AND she walked the Great Wall in 38 degrees heat with us. Whether it be in the heat or just a normal day she comes highly recommended.
Mr Wong our driver navigated all the traffic quickly and gave us plenty of water - great job.
