We arrived in New Zealand at 5:30 AM after a 14 hour flight. We had arranged a private tour of Auckland for 9:30 AM that morning. Our tour guide, Rubin's time management was impeccable. He patiently answered my many questions about the country, responding with knowledge and wit. We had a comprehensive and immersive experience in less than a five-hour tour. Shopping wasn’t a priority for us. Our guide, picking up on this cue, took us to the Arataki Visitor Centre, Te Whanganui-A-Hei (Cathedral Cove) Marine Reserve, Domain Wintergardens, and more. Tell them what you are interested and they will flex toward your desired experience. The waterways and landscape were stunning. We arrived at the airport precisely on time. It was a packed, yet relaxed, fun and fulfilling experience.

The driver/ tour guide had no real plan. We were never in Auckland before and kept asking us what we wanted to see. He had no set itinerary for the 4 hour tour. He was just winging it. Disappointing.

We landed in Auckland at 7am and couldn’t check in to our Airbnb until noon. This tour was the perfect way to pass the time while getting out there and experiencing the area and stretching our legs after a very long flight from the US. Tui was our guide. He was very accommodating and knowledgeable. He met us in the airport right off the flight, helped with our bags and took us to several great places based on our desire to see the outdoors and get out and walk a lot. Then delivered us right to our Airbnb. Highly recommend this tour, and Tui in particular!

Our guide Douglas was very nice but he seemed somewhat confused about what he was supposed to show us. He was under the impression that we were supposed to tell him what we wanted to see as opposed to taking us to the sights listed in the Viator agenda. Time could have been spent more efficiently.

Unfortunately there had been a big accident outside the city delaying our pick up by 90 mins. Not sure if we got our original driver in the end or a replacement but there was no real plan, we were asked what we wanted to see but having only arrived late the night before we didn’t really know & thought there was a planned itinerary. We were taken over the bridge for a view of the city but sat in traffic for ages. The advertised route included a beach on the west coast & our driver seemed surprised we wanted to see it - it was a long bumpy drive but had it not rained ( the only hour of the whole holiday !) it would have been a lovely spot. Our driver was lovely but quiet & it was difficult to hear him sometimes. He provided water & a snack which was a nice touch. The mini bus was comfortable but the windows had a film over one side meaning we could only see out of one side & the front so not great for a sightseeing tour. We had to return to base before we had seen everything as we had a sailing trip booked ( fabulous & well worth it). We were out for more than the 4 hours booked but due to out later trip had to rush the ending. Possibly a good way to see outside the city but a route & plan could have saved time.

Fun tour and flexible

It was a fun and educated tour. Tui was a fun guy and took us to some key points and highlights of the city. He accommodated our time and interests to stop the places that we like to see. The best thing for this tour was that he picked us up from the cruise terminal, tour the city, then took us to the airport on time. So we didn't worry about the luggages after disembark from the cruise ship. Of course, we need to pay extra for the transportation to airport, it was worth.

Not a good operator.

This was not a tour. The operator hired a Taxi driver the night before. The driver was friendly and personable. But, we did not appreciate the fact that he was not a guide. For over $600 NZ dollars for 4 hours, this was unacceptable. I tried to confirm a few days before our port arrival to get the name and phone number of our guide as well as details on pickup, but the operator never responded. After arriving to the port, I tried to call the number on the contact info and it was not operable. This is unacceptable especially in a foreign country and led to a stressful situation.

First, let me start by saying our driver was a very nice man. However, he did not seem to be as knowledgeable about Auckland’s specific areas of interest. The tour company should have trained him with more of the facts in my opinion. He was very pleasant and a safe driver, however. As far as Viatour is concerned, I’m very disappointed in your service in that I booked a pickup schedule time to leave the hotel at 12:30. I got a notice from viatour when we arrive to the hotel in the early morning that the tour was scheduled for 930. Of course it was too early for viatour to be contacted so we finally got a hold of the tour company and they told us that the tour was in fact scheduled for 1230 and not 930. This was totally unacceptable and a mistake that should not have been made with a professional company. So overall, we got a chance to see most of the important sites in Auckland but we wasted a lot of time waiting around for the tour after hustling to get ready for the 930 noted departure. This is my first time using Viator. Again. I am very disappointed.

Our guide was fantastic. He is a life long native of Auckland and took us to all the main spots in and out of town, plus a few places known by the locals for great views and stories. Our tour was private for the four of us and we learned a lot, saw some beautiful views and had a great time! Highly recommend!

My husband and I booked a private tour. Several areas were great, One Tree Hill and South beaches. However, I booked a private tour and expected a level of luxury. We were in a Ford with cloth seats. Our guide got lost and seemed confused a couple of times. We had to ask to stop for a WC break and were not offered the opportunity to stop to purchase a snack. This was our last tour after two weeks. All others made personal comfort, food, restroom etc a priority.

Our apologies, for you not finding the vehicle upto your expectations of luxury, the sedan, a full size, is a late model touring vehicle, always kept in a well groomed condition. Yes, the vehicle does have cloth seats, but again, we have never advertised that it will have any special seating. Your driver is very experienced and does these tours regularly and has great feedback as given by clients (even on Viator), being a private tour you had the flexibility of spending time as you desired (in the allocated time) at the sights, and am sure if you had just mentioned to the driver that you would like to stop for a bite - he would have obliged. We were very happy with our guide/driver Rueben. He listened to our comments and requests and found the places we loved. He adapted the plan. To accommodate the mobility issues which affected half of our group of four. Our tour guide Trevor gave us a great feeling of the beautiful city of Auckland and surrounding areas. We saw so many interesting areas - including where a nude beach is (ha). We saw a very impressive memorial to MJ Savage, lovely gardens and surroundings. We went through the Botanical Gardens and enjoyed ice cream at the nearby cafe - a very pretty area, we didn't want to leave. We saw many high end housing and very pretty overlooks of the ocean and city of Auckland. Our tour guide was very thorough and explained to us a lot about the history of the area. We would highly recommend this tour.

Saw lots and well worth the money

We absolutely loved our private tour of Auckland. We saw so much and were given the flexibility of how long we wanted to spend at each spot and whether we wanted to stop and shop or not. We went to a great lookout for the Harbour Bridge, toured the fortress, the park where the Auckland Memorial War Museum is, and Mount Eden to name a few highlights. It was a great day and our guide was very accommodating, knowledgeable and kind. We would highly recommend this tour. In 4 hours we felt we really got to see a lot and we could have never seen that on our own in such a short period of time. We did a few other group tours in NZ and to be honest the private ones were the best! You get what you pay for!

Great time in Aukland!

My husband and I wanted a private tour of Aukland where someone would pick us up and our luggage up at the cruise ship port, show us some sites, and deliver us to the airport. Our guide, Sushila, was a great driver and shared her considerable knowledge about Aukland. She customized our experience to make it interesting and enjoyable. Areas of Aukland were not easily accessible due to a recent cyclone. Sushila was able to avoid problem areas and give us a great tour. My husband was so happy that he gave her a hug when she dropped us off at the airport!

Our tour guide, Shiela, was great. The tour itself was just average - nothing in downtown Auckland. Some of the surrounding neighborhoods were nice - Mission Bay & Davenport.
