Abby was a great guide, enthusiastic and fun. We went to local places and all the food was great. I liked the cheeses the most and my husband loved the sausage and herring. The surprise dessert of French toast and coffee ice cream was a delight. I highly recommend a Sherpa tour!

Great tour with an excellent guide! The food samplings were interesting and delicious, making it a wonderful way to experience the city. There was quite a bit of walking, but it was done at a comfortable, enjoyable pace.

Long waking tour!

dburton, Jun 2026
Lots of confusion over the meet up location was. Then the places we stopped were not expecting us so there was often no place to sit and enjoy the food. The walk was unnecessarily long. We did not go to the places noted in the original itinerary. Disappointing! We wished we had left before the last stop. We have been on food tours around the world-cannot recommend this one :(

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Dear Denise, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience didn't quite meet your expectations, we understand how important it is that the value feels consistent and satisfying. We understand your concern about the tour design; this is not the standard we set. We are already reviewing the issue to ensure better consistency across our experiences. Our partners should always be expecting you and ready to welcome you in, and since your tour on 30 May we have already changed one of them over quality control concerns. Thank you for pointing this out. We are sorry about the meeting point issue. We are adding measures to make our guides easier to spot, and most guests find us without any trouble. To all future guests, it is really simple: today we meet outside the Screaming Beans in Waterlooplein 129. The last stop is a Dutch classic and genuinely delicious, so we will defend it a little, but we take your note on board and are heading back to the drawing board on the route and the walk. Thank you again for helping us improve. We look forward to welcoming you back. Warm regards, The Sherpa Food Tours team

Great way to explore the city bite by bite. Flora took us to a handful of restaurants, she shared information about the foods & history. Amazing tour!

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Thank you so much for this. "Bite by bite" is exactly how we like people to experience Amsterdam, and we're thrilled Flora made it such a good one for you. She loves weaving in the history behind the food, so it means a lot to hear that landed. We'll be sure to pass your kind words along to her. Come hungry again anytime.

Response from Host, Jun 2026

This made us smile. The surprise dessert is one of our favorite moments to spring on people, so we love that it landed. Abby will be thrilled the cheeses, the sausage, and the herring were such a hit. Thanks for the lovely recommendation.

Fun and unique experience

Craig_M, May 2026
Great tour. Flora was wonderful. We got to experience many different things in the city that we would have never done on our own without this tour. I’m very glad we did this.

Response from Host, Jun 2026

This is the best kind of compliment. Showing people the places they would never have found on their own is the whole point, and Flora is wonderful at exactly that. Really glad you did it too. Thanks for joining us.

We really got to sample great food and beverage offerings in Amsterdam. Our tour guide Abby was wonderful. We would highly recommend her. We are going to Buenos Aires in January and we will be signing up for that tour also.

Perfect adventure

Julie_K, Apr 2026
We had a great time. This took us to places we would not have done on our own. We felt we better understand the infusion of other cultures on the Dutch cusine.

Awesome introduction to all things Amsterdam!

DaveandKatie_K, Dec 2025
Only hours after arriving in Amsterdam we wisely took this tour giving us a perfect introduction to this charming city on canals. We loved every minute with our guide Maddy! She was perfect for our intimate group of 4, with a wealth of knowledge as a local. Fun, friendly and in tune with our group she guided us across town with ease. We sampled a variety of small plates and drinks throughout the city. And we’re given lots of interesting facts about Amsterdam we never would have known on our own. We highly recommend touring with this company and hopefully you will be assigned to amazing Maddy!

Loved all the non-traditional places we stopped to get authentic tastes of the city. Our guide was a great story teller and made the tour so much more!

Eat like a local and be guided by an expert

William_D, Oct 2025
This is an excellent tour that showcases small, neighborhood restaurants, and a broad variety of cuisine that are local to Amsterdam and the Netherlands. The restaurants selected are the ones that nearly residents would go to for dinner or a bite, and allowed you to feel what a real local would experience. Our guide, Maddie, was knowledgeable about the history of the neighborhoods and food, and brought with her personal experience of growing up in a foodie family (her father has won 15 James Beard Awards) and was exceptional for her engagement, stories, and knowledge. I would do this tour again if Maddie was leading it.

A must experience for visitors and locals in Amsterdam

Debra_G, Oct 2025
This tour is a great way to visit different neighborhoods in Amsterdam, learn about the history, and sample traditional Dutch cuisine.

Amsterdam Foody Tour

Jenny_M, Oct 2025
We ended up receiving a private tour (unintended). It was so nice of them not to cancel because of numbers. Geeny was lovely and very informative. It felt like she loved these little eateries herself and wanted us to experience them. I would recommend this tour if you want to sample traditional Dutch snacks and find little hidden gems (restaurants) to go back to during your stay.

TINA_P, Sep 2025
Good experience regarding history and tidbits of the city. There should have been less fish, more options especially for gluten free guest. Host aware but unprepared for GF guest. That Guest asked to share bowl of food with stranger. Smaller than expected portions for the cost of tour.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you for the kind words about the history and city tidbits, and I am sorry for what fell short. You should never be asked to share a bowl if you are gluten free, and we will reinforce individual plating, separate utensils, and strict cross-contact protocols with the team. Dutch cuisine leans heavily on fish and fried classics, many of which are not gluten free, and in trying to accommodate on your day we may have over-relied on fish. That is on us, and we are rebalancing the lineup so seafood does not dominate, while ensuring clear GF alternatives are ready at each stop. Portions should feel generous; we are auditing quantities with partners. If you can share which stops missed, please email hello@sherpafoodtours.com with your booking name so I can follow up with those venues and your host.

What a great tour!

This tour is well worth your time and $$. Anna was a very well informed and engaging guide. She has a natural ability to connect a group. The tour covers a lot without being rushed. The food were varied, chosen with intent and tasty. The size of the group is ideal. We appreciated the intention of supporting local, not touristy, businesses. We also enjoyed getting to know the other guests.

Highly enjoyable walking tour with food and history

Emma_E, Aug 2025
Very enjoyable small group that wasn’t just about food but allowed us to enjoy the heritage and culture of Amsterdam with the incredibly and personable guide, Maddie. We very much enjoyed the diversity of food and drink as well as historic places and local haunts that we were taken to. This is a great way to explore the city through the sites and sounds of its gastronomic offering. We very much enjoyed the few hours we spent and came away for more knowledgeable about the history of Amsterdam. Thank you very much for a wonderful day and all the best as the business grows!

Food tour in Amsterdam

Randall_C, Jul 2025
Way too much walking and very little food. Skip the Surameese tasting (not Dutch and not tasty); think tour would be enhanced by a Dutch guide who can bring history and Dutch perspective to foods/locations etc; please, no herring!; final stop which was to be “sit down” dinner was two small meatballs, shared fries, dessert. We did not feel tour was a good value both in terms of our time and variety of foods tasted. Our guide was very accommodating and enjoyable but the tour could use some adjustments.

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Hi Randall, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback! While we’re glad to hear you found your guide accommodating and enjoyable, we’re sorry to learn that the tour didn’t fully meet your expectations. We take your comments very seriously, and we’re already reviewing the tour route and the overall food experience to ensure it delivers. This review stands out from the positive feedback we usually receive, so it’s prompting an internal review to better understand what may have gone wrong in this particular case. There are a few points we'd like to address: - We aim to combine Amsterdam’s food culture with a meaningful walk through the city. That said, we’re reviewing the pacing and stops to ensure everything feels balanced and enjoyable. - Surinamese cuisine reflects Amsterdam’s multicultural identity, which is why it’s included, though we’ll work on improving how-where we present it. - All our guides are locals, while some come from around the world and call Amsterdam home. We invest in training to augment their know-how and ensure they’re well-versed. Still, your feedback helps us keep improving the experience for future guests. - Herring is a classic Dutch staple, definitely not for everyone, but always optional! - Finally, we were surprised to hear your comments about portion sizes, as they don’t reflect the typical experience shared by our guests. That said, we’re reviewing the final stop and food offerings to ensure they meet expectations. We’d love the opportunity to make it up to you. Please feel free to reach out to us at hello@sherpafoodtours.com so we can review your experience personally. Warm regards, The Sherpa Food Tours Team
