Overview

The only way to reach the Benagil caves is by sea; whether you take a boat, kayak, or paddle there. On this half-day adventure, venture to the caves by boat from the Albufeira Marina. When you arrive, choose either a kayak or a stand up paddleboard to head deep inside the cave system to explore. Then, head back to the marina by boat, soaking up the sun along the way.

Double kayaks are the standard equipment for everyone, if your interest is single kayak or SUP, please contact the local partner to check availability. Once you arrive at the marina, Go to Gate 3, Our office is there with a green flag on the top. Check-in is 30 minutes before departure.

Excellent experience boating, kayaking and swimming. This is a smooth operation and our guides were fun. We hiked Seven Hanging Valleys Trail yesterday and it was awesome seeing the views from above and below!

The best way to spend an afternoon while staying at the Kimpton Hotel in Albufeira. Walked from the hotel down to the marina, which was about 1 mile walk, mainly downhill. Once you approach the marina, you will love walking past pastel apartments overlooking the boats and restaurants. Very 80s and adorable. Portugal is full of culture, good food, affordability, unpretentiousness, and makes you feel welcome. The tour was super easy to find with the instructions provided and the perfect duration. We started at 1 pm and returned to the marina around 4:30 pm. The boat is equipped with kayaks (single and double) as well as SUPs. The crew is friendly and well-prepped to guide a group of 30+ passengers into the caves. They use small boats, radios and kayaks to keep the group together. Great experience for you to consider!

This was great. Very friendly and laid back guides and crew, stunning views of the coastline to and from the caves, an up close and personal view of Benagil cave from the boat and then a phenomenal kayaking tour through all the small sea caves in the area. Couldn’t have asked for more.

Lot of fun in astonishing places

From the start, all the staff were very friendly, helpful and multilingual. They spoke in English, French, Portuguese and Portunol which was very convenient because the group was cosmopolitan. Secondly, the scenery is astonishing and we paddled for amazing places that I did not expected. Finally, the organisation and the kayaking ended up being a funny and lovely time. I strongly recommend this experience .

Excellent tour and value. The guides were amazing, personable and instructive. They showed you a lot of sites along the way and made it fun. The scenery is stunning and the water is beautiful. We highly recommend.

Great team, efficient with clear instructions. Lovely boat, well worth the money! Drinks and snacks available to purchase on board which were fairly priced. All in all would highly recommend.

Balancing views, safety and lack of knowledge

I’ll start with what I loved. 1. The views from the boat and kayaks were incredible. I could not have had a better view than the one we had. 2. The kayaking/paddle boarding route was a long one so you got your moneys worth. With that said. There are areas I would love for them to improve one. 1. Safety: -they put my husband into the kayak the wrong way. I knew this because I was told to go in a different way right after him. he was in open ocean realizing everything was hurting because he was seated the opposite direction of the kayak. After 30 minutes and multiple passes with the guides he went back to the boat himself to ask to help fix the issue upon looking at my position in the kayak. -when exiting the kayak, I slipped as there was no foot hold. They told me to swing my legs out first which was totally okay however there again was no foothold and the kayak was not being held in place so I slipped again. Only on the third instance did they hold the kayak and offer a hand. Not a great experience when docking a kayak on a moving boat. -some of the caves were way to small which resulted in overcrowding especially since we were suppose to u-turn within the cave. It was not too huge of an issue not but if the water is choppy this definitely poses a significant risk to the Kayaker. 2. Guide: when it came to telling us what to do great. However, I did not feel any wiser as I didn’t learn one thing outside of cave names. This was both, the guide starting before everyone was gathered and also giving very basic information. I learned separately from a friend that the area use to be a slave port for example. If you are looking for a tour wanting to learn more about Portugal rich history, in particular this area. I would not suggest this tour.

Beautiful spot for kayaking amongst caves and faraglioni. Very helpful staff, attentive to participants safety and wellbeing at all times. The activity takes you longer than 3 hours and 30 minutes but you will lose time references due to being funnny and keeping you busy all time long. In the downside, the area is a little overcrowded with too many groups kayaking around at a time.

Enjoyable but need to be careful

Really good half day out, boat trip was amazing and kayaking was one not to be missed. Only issue was the chaos at bengil cave an surrounding area, due to this being a tourist hotspot there were far too many people trying to get in and out of the caves at the same time. Kayaks, small boats , paddle boards e.t.c I've never seen so many in one area. Me and my wife came really close to hitting our heads on the sharp cave sides due to being hit by another kayak ( hit us side on ) so be careful. Organizers tried there best to keep things running smoothly be it was hectic. I think the government really need to look into this problem as there will be serious accidents in the near future if access is not restricted or monitored..... The day after we visited a boat capsized.

Fun Kayaking experience to the Benagil Caves

I wholeheartedly recommend this tour to everyone! We had a fantastic time, but we only wished we could have spent more time in the cave and seen more of the secret caves in the area. We booked the 9am tour and it was a little chilly, so remember to bring a towel or jacket.

Great trip guides are very helpful even carried out mate who was too slow on a mini boat. Wish there was a bit more freedom on the kayak but it was not a severe issue

The caves and coastline were amazing and we enjoyed the kayaking but the group was very big on the boat trip and the area was super crowded so there was a lot of waiting around plus it felt quite rushed due to the group size, as would have liked a longer time to explore but it’s well worth the trip just to see the caves……

Great tour, too big a group

The coastline of the Algarve region is absolutely gorgeous, don’t skip it! However, there were a lot of kayaks and SUPs in our group so it was chaotic to get on and off the boat in our kayaks and then it was hard to stay with our group. Overall a fantastic experience but it would be nice if the group was a little smaller.
