We had a fantastic time on this day trip! The monasteries are amazing and beautiful. Our guide, Vasili, was well informed, funny and delightful. Very unique experience! I would recommend to anyone who has an extra day in Athens. We debated going to another site of ruins versus visiting Meteora and we are very satisfied with our decision to make this trip.

Maria was wonderful. Her stories of growing up the area were entertaining and insightful. The lunch was wonderful and was dinner. The 3 monasteries we toured were so beautiful and the views were stunning. I would highly recommend putting this tour at the top of your list if you plan to visit Athens.

Itinerary

The journey begins at the Larissis Railway Station in the morning, where you’ll board a modern coach bus equipped with air conditioning and onboard Wi-Fi. Relax and take in the diverse scenery of the Grecian countryside and break up the 4-hour drive with a stop in Kamena Vourla, for an optional seaside brunch (payable onsite).

Then head to the picturesque village of Kastraki for a relaxed lunch at a traditional taverna (available as a tour upgrade or you can pay on site).

Travel through a landscape of green valleys dotted with dramatic grey cliffs to reach Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by Greek Orthodox monks who inhabited these incredible, hard-to-reach sanctuaries high above ground. Visit three active monasteries, spending about 45 minutes inside each one (entrance fees not included). See the others from the outside on a van tour and discover the hermit caves of Badovas, stopping for frame-worthy photos at each site.

Highly recommend!

Rosalind_H, Aug 2026
Awesome! Almost exactly as described. Apparently company has only 1 bus. This day, there were so many people, they added a 2nd, which I was assigned to. Older, no USB ports. The 5 hours we had a guide, he had a power port to share. WIFI did work. Water was supposed to be provided. People were buying their own at the 1st 2 locations as there were snack trucks. (and shops at 1st) My water ran out at 3rd place. No trucks or shops. I asked guide about water. Now it comes out! Many folks were happy to see that! Not very cold but it was wet. Brunch/dinner stop place was lovely and handled the crowd well. Lunch was great. Stops were very rushed for folks eating tho. Guide picked up just before Meteora was great. His drop off point is also a comfort stop with to-go snacks. The 1st/main monastery is a HUGE physical effort. Worth the effort! Worth the cost. Toilets free and very nice. 2nd one was a bit easier but toilets cost. I did not enter this site. Third was a nunnery. Also "easier" to get to. Small. Not really worth the cost. Toilets free but only the "hole in the floor" kind. Meteora is a popular spectacle! Many tour companies and individuals also go. It was crowded but everyone was respectful: people, bikers, cars, buses, old folks, younger folks. The view stops were spectacular! This tour company was excellent at communicating and organizing. I was very pleased with everything except getting an old bus with no USB. But its a/c worked very well! You'll probably need a cover-up.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you so much for your detailed review and for highly recommending the experience! We’re very happy to hear that you enjoyed Meteora, the spectacular viewpoints, the lunch and seaside stops, and especially the organization and communication from our team. Just to clarify one point, we operate **more than one bus**, and on very busy dates we may use additional vehicles from trusted local partners. Some replacement vehicles may not have exactly the same amenities, such as USB ports, although air conditioning and passenger comfort remain a priority. Regarding the water, the complimentary **0.5L bottle is provided during the Meteora monastery tour**, when guests usually need it most. However, especially during the Greek summer and with the staircases involved at the monasteries, one small bottle is naturally not intended to cover hydration needs for the entire day. We always recommend bringing or purchasing additional water along the way. We also really appreciate your comments about the different monasteries and the level of physical effort required, as this is very useful information for future travelers. Thank you again for choosing us and for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review. We’re very pleased that overall you had such a positive experience with us!

Magical Meteora, no other...

Aimee_S, Aug 2026
Magical Meteora, no other words can describe it. Local tour guide Katarina was exceptional, this was one of our Greece trip highlights!

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted that Meteora was one of the highlights of your trip to Greece. Katarina will be very happy to hear your kind words. Thank you for choosing us to experience the magic of Meteora, and we hope to welcome you back again someday!

8 hour drive

Phillip_H, Aug 2026
You drive for 8 uneventful hours in the trip on an uncomfortable bus. Views at site are amazing. Tour was underwhelming. Find better transportation.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed the incredible views of Meteora, although we’re sorry the overall experience did not meet your expectations. The journey from Athens to Meteora is a long one, and the approximately 8 hours of total round-trip driving is clearly reflected in the itinerary and tour duration before booking. We also break the journey with seaside stops in both directions** to make the trip more comfortable. We’re sorry to hear that you found the bus uncomfortable. Vehicle comfort is important to us, and we will take your comment into consideration with our transportation partners. For travelers who prefer a more relaxed experience with less driving in one day, we also offer 2-day Meteora tours from Athens. Thank you again for sharing your experience.

Floating in the sky over

Stan_R, Aug 2026
Be prepared for a lot of stairs. It is worth it but it is a lot of steps. The drive was quite scenic and the trip up the mountain offers amazing views of the countryside below.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you for your lovely review! The stairs can definitely be a challenge, but we’re glad you felt the experience was worth the effort. The drive through the countryside and the views as you approach Meteora are part of what makes the journey so special. Thank you for joining us, and we hope you took home some unforgettable memories from this unique place!

5 hours b4 the experience begins

Andy_B, Aug 2026
You travel for 5 hours of the most boring motorway travel before this experience actually starts. Do not go to Meteora from Athens it is just too far to enjoy the experience. Go from a much nearer starting point.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry that the journey from Athens to Meteora felt too long for you. However, the travel time and full-day nature of this experience are clearly stated in the tour description so guests can decide in advance whether this itinerary is suitable for them. The drive to Meteora is approximately **4 hours, not 5**, and we also break the journey with a **seaside stop** to make it more comfortable. Meteora is indeed a significant distance from Athens, which is why we also offer a **2-day tour from Athens** for travelers who prefer a more relaxed pace. We fully respect that a day trip may not suit everyone, but we feel a 2-star rating based mainly on the geographical distance between Athens and Meteora does not fairly reflect the quality of the tour and the experience provided by our team.

Rude, unprofessional guide

Mystina_S, Aug 2026
Meteora was an amazing, beautiful place and we loved exploring the monasteries. The coach bus was comfortable and clean, but my air vent and USB charging port were not working. Our first driver was great! Our guide in Meterora, however, was awful. From the moment she stepped on the bus she was snarky, negative, and constantly bashed the bus driver. I think she was trying to be funny, but after a while it was just plain rude, disrespectful, and annoying. She also used swear words several times throughout the tour. At one point she stated that she was the only useful employee in this company, which in my opinion was not professional. She constantly talked poorly about tourists on previous tours and stated that she would get so many dumb questions, so she made up questions that she would answer for us. The day would have been so much better without this unprofessional guide with a snarky, negative attitude. Also, at the dinner stop, the restaurant Camino has a trip hazard near their bathrooms and my elderly mother tripped on it and fell, banging up her knees and head. One restaurant employee helped her but acted like they were just afraid they were going to get sued. The trip hazard was a small, unnecessary step that should not even be there. The restaurant needs to take better responsibility to remove hazards from guests. The restaurant servers were also rude. We were a family of 5 and they seated us at 2 separate tables. When 3 of us were directed to a table, there was an open table for 2 next to theirs, but the hostess seated us further away. We told her we were with them and asked to sit at the table next to them. She rudely said no and we have to sit at our table assigned to us. I had to ask for ketchup for my fries, but no one ever came to our table to check on us. I had to get up to go find the nearest waitress and I was actively speaking to her when she completely ignored me and walked off. I had to find someone else to ask and then was told to “go sit down” and they would bring it. Overall, Meterora shouldn’t be missed, but I strongly recommend going with a different company.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

We’re very sorry to hear about your experience, especially regarding our guide’s attitude and your mother’s fall at the restaurant. This is not the level of professionalism we expect. We will speak directly with the guide and also raise your concerns with the restaurant. Everyone can have a difficult day, but that should never affect our guests. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Excellent photos, long bus ride

Dawn_L, Aug 2026
A lot of stairs/hills so in the summer when it's hot definitely not ideal! But gorgeous incredible views even if you don't pay the extra €5 per person to enter the monasteries. From Athens a very long bus ride so bring comforts, you can leave your things on the bus all day so you don't have to carry them which is nice. If you need a ride from the drop point to your accomodations, try to book in advance as it will be late at night and all the taxis are very busy. The camino restaurant is the stop they use for the brunch and dinner stops, these are not included in the price but they have a sheet on the bus to place your preorder so your food is ready when you get there. Dinner was fine but brunch was a disaster, my kids never got their food nor did many other passengers on the bus - the bus even waited an extra 10 minutes while the restaurant staff ran around like chickens with their heads cut off. No coffee for me either so the day included much ibuprofen. Of course no refund for all the money paid for the meals we did not receive. There are a ton of other restaurants next door but without being able to preorder time before the bus leaves may be an issue. Remember men need pants or you'll get some scrub style ones to wear over your shorts. Women need a skirt below the knee or one is provided at each place (one of them charges €2

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re very glad you enjoyed the incredible views of Meteora and found the overall organization helpful during the long day from Athens. We are very sorry to hear about the issue with your brunch order. This is actually the first time we have been made aware that you and your children did not receive the meals you had paid for. Had we known at the time, we would have been more than happy to assist immediately. Please contact us directly with your booking details and the amount paid for the meals that were not received, and we will gladly arrange a refund for you. Thank you as well for your useful comments regarding the walking conditions, summer heat and monastery dress requirements. Meteora does involve stairs and uneven terrain, especially when visiting the monasteries, so this information can certainly help future travelers prepare better. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope the beautiful scenery and experience of Meteora remain the strongest memories of your day.

Rachael_D, Aug 2026
Amazing! So glad we did this! For some reason it’s making me type more words when simply amazing would do.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you so much! Sometimes “simply amazing” really says it all! We’re delighted you chose to experience Meteora with us and even happier to hear that you’re so glad you did. Thank you for sharing your experience and for the wonderful recommendation!

Great tour

Troy_T, Aug 2026
This is truly an incredible tour that you have to take if you come to Greece. This particular tour group is very organized and informative. Our travel guide was engaging and funny and knowledgeable. A few things to be aware of is that you have to climb many stairs and if it’s in the summer, it could be quite difficult for some. A couple of other things that you need to know is that they do charge in some places for the toilet. Usually it is one euro. The other thing is that women are not allowed to wear pants, short skirts or shorts or show their shoulders. They do give you a wrap at the entrance in order to cover up if you need that. It is also good to carry some euros as currency because there are times when cash is required or credit card machines did not work. Each of the monasteries require five euros each to enter.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you very much for your detailed review and recommendation! We’re delighted to hear that you found the tour well organized, informative and enjoyable, and that your guide made the experience engaging and fun. Thank you also for highlighting some very useful practical points for future travelers, especially the stairs, summer heat, monastery dress code and the importance of carrying some cash for entrance fees and other small expenses. We truly appreciate you sharing your experience and are very happy that Meteora was such a memorable part of your visit to Greece!

Perfect trip

Najat_D, Aug 2026
Well organized, on time, the drivers were great, our guide Vasillis was very informative, helpful and funny. It was what it said in the advertisement, bravo !

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re very happy to hear that everything was well organized and on time, and that you enjoyed the experience with our drivers and with Vasilis. We’ll be sure to pass your kind words on to him. It means a lot to us to hear that the tour delivered exactly what was promised. Thank you for choosing Visit Meteora and for the “bravo”!

Long day of exciting...

Long day of exciting activities with amazing staff. Planned very well and everyone was so nice. Everything had clear instructions and communication was great.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Our team works hard to make such a long and exciting day feel smooth from start to finish, so your comments mean a lot to us. Thank you for choosing Visit Meteora, and we hope to welcome you back again in the future!

Long but satisfying

Michael_K, Aug 2026
Long day but satisfying day. Enjoyable ride and stops along the way, visiting the monasteries is likely once in a lifetime event and this tour made the journey worth the trip.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you for your lovely review! We’re very happy to hear that, despite the long day, you found the journey enjoyable and worthwhile. Visiting the Meteora monasteries truly is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we’re glad our tour, the comfortable ride, and the stops along the way helped make the day special. Thank you for choosing Visit Meteora!

A long but well worth it tour.

Sam_C, Aug 2026
This was along tour but so much fun and well worth it. Maria our guide was great we went to three monasteries and saw some amazing sites. There is a lot to see and do and it is a while out from Athens but we were able to do it in a day which was fantastic.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted that you found the journey from Athens well worth it and had such a fun day exploring Meteora. Maria will be very happy to hear your kind words. Visiting three monasteries and experiencing the incredible scenery all in one day is certainly a full adventure, and we’re glad we could help make it possible. Thank you for choosing Visit Meteora!

Wonderful day at Meteora!

Hyun_w, Aug 2026
This is a great way to visit the Mateora sites! The tour bus ride was insightful. It gave us the understanding and the background construction wonders and the difficulties through the centuries the monasteries experienced. Rather than just walking through and marveling at the beauty, the guides helped us grasp the miraculous achievements made to create such wonders. We typically just blunder through tourist sites and see them for what we see. I am glad we splurged and did the opposite at Meteora. There is so much to learn that you won’t get through a google search or a cliff notes version of what you see.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you so much for this thoughtful review! We’re delighted that the tour gave you a deeper understanding of Meteora, its history, and the incredible effort involved in building and preserving the monasteries through the centuries. Our guides always aim to go beyond the views and help bring the story of Meteora to life. We’re very happy the experience added so much meaning to your visit, and we truly appreciate you choosing Visit Meteora!

Because it's a very long...

IlanJaffa_P, Aug 2026
Because it's a very long ride I wish there was a guy that will explain stuff on the way to Meteora the food stop, was not the greatest in the world. Otherwise everything went OK.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you for your feedback. We understand that the journey from Athens to Meteora is long, which is why we include several comfort and seaside stops along the way. During the Meteora portion of the tour, our local guide provides the commentary and explanations, while the transfer itself is designed mainly for passengers to relax. We also appreciate your comments regarding the food stop and will take them into consideration as we continue improving the overall experience. We’re glad that everything else went smoothly and hope you enjoyed the spectacular sights of Meteora.

John_H, Aug 2026
It is a long ride from Athens and a long day but amazing sights to see and the tour bus stopped several times for breaks and food.

Response from Host, Aug 2026

Thank you for sharing your experience! Meteora is indeed a long day trip from Athens, but we’re very happy you felt the incredible sights made the journey worthwhile. We also appreciate you mentioning the regular comfort and food stops along the way. We hope you left with some wonderful memories of Meteora!

This is a great way to...

Christine_O, Jul 2026
This is a great way to see a truly wonderous site! My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The guide and driver were great, and we had ample time to explore the monasteries. My only criticism is that the meals felt rushed.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Thank you for your wonderful review! We’re delighted you enjoyed Meteora, the monasteries, and the service provided by our guide and driver. As this is a long day trip with three scheduled meal stops, the timing at each stop must be carefully managed to respect the drivers’ legal working-hour limits and ensure a safe, timely return to Athens. We appreciate your feedback and hope the overall experience left you with wonderful memories!

A super long day

winnie_y, Jul 2026
Long travelling time. Both lunch and dinner were in a hurry. May cut one of the monasteries to save time. Not suitable for elderlies.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Thank you for your feedback. The full-day duration and extensive travel time from Athens are clearly stated in the activity description and reflected in many guest reviews. The itinerary is designed to include three monasteries and the main Meteora highlights in one day. For travelers who prefer a slower pace, especially elderly guests, we also offer two- and three-day Meteora tours with more time for meals, rest, and sightseeing.

Traveling in Greece

Nancy_E, Jul 2026
Our guide was wonderful. We picked him up on our way to Meteora. Brunch information was sparse but order on your way up. Somehow they know when to have it ready.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Thank you for your review! We’re delighted you enjoyed our guide and the Meteora experience. We appreciate your feedback regarding the brunch instructions. Guests can pre-order during the journey using our QR system so the restaurant can prepare meals before arrival. We’ll work on making this process clearer.

Pick good bus seats😄

Nichole_H, Jul 2026
Amazing place to visit, but the bus ride was LONG. A few tips- don't sit in the back of the bus If the weather is hot, it was miserable on the way home and we could not cool down. Also, if you need euros, there is an ATM a 5-10 minute walk from the lunch stop, but you would need to get your food quickly and then head there right after eating. The Monasteries themselves are very interesting, and the views are incredible. Overall it was a great day, but the ride home was tough.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Thank you for your detailed review! We’re glad you enjoyed the monasteries, incredible views, and the overall experience. We’re sorry the return journey felt uncomfortable, especially in the back of the bus during the heat. We appreciate your helpful tips and will review the cooling and seating conditions with our transport team.

Outstanding!!

Robyn_B, Jul 2026
Unbelievable! So beautiful and unique. Highlight of our trip! This is a must do if in Greece. Highly recommend.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Thank you Robyn for this outstanding review! We’re thrilled that Meteora was a highlight of your trip and that you found the experience so beautiful and unique. Your recommendation means a great deal to our team, and we hope to welcome you back to Greece again!

Great guide, nice view, should have packed lunch instead.

Megan_S, Jul 2026
Monasteries were beautiful, guide and bus driver were great! We loved the breakfast and supper stop. Lunch stop wasn’t the greatest I would skip that and pack one.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Thank you for your review! We’re delighted you enjoyed the monasteries, our guide, driver, and the seaside meal stops. We’re sorry the lunch did not meet your expectations, and we appreciate your honest feedback, which we’ll share with our restaurant partner. We hope the rest of the experience remains a wonderful memory!

Must see! You won't regret it!

Anastasios_K, Jul 2026
It's simply a must see/do in Greece. You won't regret it. My wife and teenage kids were complaining about how long the day was going to be for a visit from Athens (literally form 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.). They were so happy they did it. Pictures of Meteora do no justice. You have to experience it to believe it. No disrespect to the Acropolis, but if you can only see 1 place, it should be Meteora.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Thank you for your amazing review! We are delighted that the long journey from Athens proved completely worthwhile for your whole family. Meteora truly is one of those places that photos cannot fully capture—you have to experience its breathtaking landscape and monasteries in person. Your recommendation means a great deal to us, and we hope to welcome you back to Greece again!

Fantastic experience. Don’t miss this one.

Dan_P, Jul 2026
This is an absolutely beautiful part of Greece… EPIC!! The guide made the history of Greece come alive and connected it with what we see today in the monasteries.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Thank you for your fantastic review! We are delighted that you found Meteora so beautiful and that our guide brought Greek history to life while connecting it with the monasteries you visited. Your recommendation means a lot to our team, and we hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable experience in Greece!

Great trip!

Julie_C, Jul 2026
Very well done. The destination was amazing but they broke up the bus trip with brunch/dinner stops each way, and had bathroom breaks built into the trip. The bus was nice and clean. The overall organization was excellent.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Thank you, Juile, for your wonderful review! We are delighted that you enjoyed Meteora and appreciated the well-planned seaside meal stops, regular comfort breaks, clean coach, and smooth organization throughout the day. We hope to welcome you back for another memorable experience in Greece!

Very long day

Anastasia_v, Jul 2026
I didn’t realize that the drive to the first monastery would be 4 hours and 4 hours back. Once we got there it was pretty, but not worth the 8 hour drive. I would not do it again.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Dear Anastasia, Thank you for your feedback. Meteora is not close to Athens, and the long travel time is clearly stated in the tour description. This is basic information that should be reviewed before booking any full-day trip. We are sorry the experience was not what you expected, but the distance and duration are not hidden and are part of the nature of visiting Meteora from Athens in one day.

Physically demanding to...

Peter_E, Jul 2026
Physically demanding to climb to the monasteries with steep slopes and a mix of uneven terrain and nicely finished steps. Very much with the effort but taxing. Maria was a great guide and the meals stops were great.

We had a ton of fun...

Alyanna_A, Jul 2026
We had a ton of fun visiting all 3 of the accessible monasteries! Our tour guide was funny and very personable and made the experience fun & we very much enjoyed hearing about the different stories of each monastery. The trip also included stops to some super nice picturesque spots! I would definitely recommend taking this trip - super worth it!

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Beautiful and Unique Experience!
