Itinerary
Meet your guide and a small group of no more than six near the Vatican Museums, where you enjoy early access into the complex.
Your guide takes you through the maze of the museums to see highlights including the Gallery of Candelabras, the Gallery of Tapestries, the Pinecone Courtyard, and the Raphael Rooms.
Then head to the Sistine Chapel where you listen to an introduction to Michelangelo’s frescoes from your guide. Talking inside the chapel is not allowed, so you’ll learn about these Renaissance artworks before entering. Then, head directly inside the pope’s private place of worship.
Gaze in awe at Michelangelo’s ceiling fresco, 'The Creation of Adam,' as well as 'The Last Judgment' gracing the back wall of the chapel. Soak in unobstructed views of the works, and enjoy time to inspect them in detail.
When your time in the chapel is up, head inside St. Peter’s Basilica. Here, let your guide introduce you to the best of the treasures held in the magnificent interior. Admire Michelangelo's glorious Pietà, the marble sculpture depicting Mary holding the dead Jesus, as well as Bernini's Baldacchino altar canopy and Pope Alexander VII monument among other great works.
Your tour concludes inside the church when your guide departs. You’re free to then continue exploring independently, perhaps looking further around the interior to see the papal tombs, climbing the Dome, or strolling around St. Peter’s Square as you wish.

Mateo was very informative and this guided tour was excellent! Early morning was a bit rough to get up for but I highly recommend doing the early tour. Still busy but less crowded. Great tour. Highly recommend

My guide was very knowledgeable, very accommodating and made sure I was able to capture amazing photos

Claudia was an excellent tour guide. Very informative. She answered all of our questions. Highly recommend this tour

Paola was very knowledgeable and fun. she took us to the right spots and made the experience extremely enjoyable.

Enjoyed the early morning tour with Christina. She was very knowledgeable and interacted well with our small group. Small group was worth it because you could ask questions and stay together as a group. Don’t think you’ll be alone though, if you’re going in summer. You’ll be one of the first in and there is room to stay together, but there are lots of groups. Still, being able to interact with our guide was great and she did a fantastic job. We were with Liv Tours.

100000% recommend this tour! Liv Tours was organized and quick in getting us assigned to our guide Lia (from Sorrento - hope I spelled her name correctly) She was fantastic!! So warm and friendly and so knowledgeable!! She led us efficiently through the Vatican Museum and hit all the highlights!! The Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s were both magnificent. We took a super early tour to beat the crowds and it was so worth it. Lia was happy to take our family pics also which was so nice. Well worth the money spent - I would highly recommend Liv Tours!!

Good tour! The guide, Masimo was very detailed and did a great job of maneuvering us through spaces and telling us about all of the pieces of art.

Our guide is the best we’ve had in Rome and all of Europe (Massimo?). It is an expensive tour by comparison to others but we felt it worthwhile.

My mom and I had an amazing early morning small group tour of the Vatican! Our tour guide not only shared so many interesting facts that we would have never learned on our own but he was hilarious as well and really made this tour more amazing than we could have ever imagined! Thank you Giovanni!!!

It was a very expensive way to avoid long lines. The guide was very good. Very informed. She was excellent but the cost overshot the experience

We had a lovely tour with Patricia. She was so informative and made sure that we navigated all of the wonderful things to see.
Was such a privilege being on an early
Morning small group and would recommend this as we saw so much without the normal huge crowds

This was amazing. My family had Claudia and she was incredible. Could not imagine doing the Vatican any differently It was amazing

We really enjoyed this tour. The early morning option was great as there were less people in all the places we visited. Our guide, Attilia, was very knowledgeable and made our time both informative and enjoyable.

Awesome experience. Our guide Massimo was very informative and knowledgeable. The pace was brisk but needed to be to get through everything we saw in the time provided. Guide had a great sense of humor but not over the top where it could be a distraction. There was so much to see that we could do this tour ten times and still not see everything.

Amazing tour with the best tour guide Olivia! She was so sweet and full of great knowledge about Vatican City! Our family had a great time and learned a lot! Wonderful and organized tour company. Lots of walking but highly recommend!
Jennifer_R, Jun 2026
Paola was fantastic! She was so knowledgeable and took us on a path through the Vatican that felt like we were the only ones there at times. She gave us the perfect amount of art, history and cultural lore. I could not recommend her or this tour more!

We enjoyed our tour with a small group of 6 people. Our guide, Lisa, was a wealth of knowledge and shared so much history as we toured each space. She was great at keeping us moving through the crowded areas. We highly recommend going early in the morning. I do want to mention that even though the tour description said 7:30am, we did not get to enter until the museum opened at 8am.

This was the best experience we have had in our 18 days in Italy. Our guide Siriki blended his extensive knowledge with timely humor. This was a Masterclass in providing the ultimate customer experience in way that made you feel like you were spending your day with a professor but received the information in a conversational way. My wife and would recommend this private tour without reservation. Thank you Siriki! 10 stars on a 5 star scale.

Really enjoyed the small group tour. We didn’t get into the museum any earlier than the other visitors as we waited in a line until 8:00. However, we did have much fewer people in museum with us as we were fast tracked in. Pictures do not do justice to the basilica or the Sistine chapel! Both are so beautiful!!

Francesca was an Amazing tour guide. She was engaging, knowledgeable and seemed to have as much fun as we did. Loved this tour, was perfect for our family (kids 13 and 12). Early morning was a great time to go, not very crowded.
Javier_C, Jun 2026
Excellent experience. We arrived early. Many people waiting in a small side street by a cafe across the Vatican musum , we were a.bit lost until we saw the Livtour sign. Then a line to match with our guides. Patricia was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She had a good pace and was kind to showe us all the highlights, within historical perspective. This museum has a large collection of artifacts beyond imagination. St Peter basilica was impressive, though chaotic. It was bothersome that some people, not just few, not respecting their turn or space. Our guide Patrizia kindly helped us to navigate. Great experience overall.

David was awesome. We had a small group and he was engaging and informative for our entire tour. Definitely recommend and would love to do this tour again!

Our tour guide Max was fantastic. He was extremely knowledgeable and made our tour so enjoyable. I would highly recommend this tour and if you are fortunate enough to get Max as your guide, you’ll have a great experience. Thanks Max.

Marzia Was absolutely the best guide. As an archeologist she is very knowledgeable about the history. She was thoughtful and kind and kept the conversation going. The tour was better because she was the guide. She even had recommendations beyond the tour that will enhance our entire trip. Thank you so much she is a treasure of Roma. Ciao
Thais_G, May 2026
Our guide was very nice and informative. Our tour to the Vatican was fantastic. Highly recommend this experience. It would be difficult to navigate through the whole place without help.
Kevin_S, May 2026
This tour was excellent and we did it first thing in the morning to get into the Sistene chapel early.
Marianne_M, May 2026
Laura has a depth of knowledge about the Vatican that is difficult to match! Her passion and enthusiasm added immense value to our experience. She was gracious and accommodating. Very much worth it have a private tour first thing in the morning! A peaceful and memorable experience.
Yevgeniy_R, May 2026
They should know that the exact start time of the visit is actually 8.00 and not 7.30. Given that customers are requested to arrive by 7.15, it makes additional 45 minutes of waiting in front of the gate.
Don_L, May 2026
Simply the best! Giovanni our guide was the perfect host - fun, engaging and ensured we saw all the right things. The experience is beautiful but can be overwhelming so I am glad we booked the early morning time slot. It was truly worth every penny. The crowds are tremendous as people say so save yourself the frustration and book a small group tour - especially with LIV Tours!
