Itinerary
Meet your guide and a small group of no more than six near the Vatican Museums, where you enjoy early access into the complex.
Your guide takes you through the maze of the museums to see highlights including the Gallery of Candelabras, the Gallery of Tapestries, the Pinecone Courtyard, and the Raphael Rooms.
Then head to the Sistine Chapel where you listen to an introduction to Michelangelo’s frescoes from your guide. Talking inside the chapel is not allowed, so you’ll learn about these Renaissance artworks before entering. Then, head directly inside the pope’s private place of worship.
Gaze in awe at Michelangelo’s ceiling fresco, 'The Creation of Adam,' as well as 'The Last Judgment' gracing the back wall of the chapel. Soak in unobstructed views of the works, and enjoy time to inspect them in detail.
When your time in the chapel is up, head inside St. Peter’s Basilica. Here, let your guide introduce you to the best of the treasures held in the magnificent interior. Admire Michelangelo's glorious Pietà, the marble sculpture depicting Mary holding the dead Jesus, as well as Bernini's Baldacchino altar canopy and Pope Alexander VII monument among other great works.
Your tour concludes inside the church when your guide departs. You’re free to then continue exploring independently, perhaps looking further around the interior to see the papal tombs, climbing the Dome, or strolling around St. Peter’s Square as you wish.

Our tour of the Vatican with Massimo was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we started, it was clear that he isn’t just a guide—he is a master storyteller and a true wealth of knowledge.
Massimo has a gift for bringing history to life. He wove together the art, politics, and culture of the Vatican in a way that kept us completely engaged. He pointed out so many unique details and hidden gems that we would have easily walked right past on our own.
If you want more than just a walk-through and truly want to understand the significance of what you are seeing, ask for Massimo. He made our visit truly unforgettable. We cannot recommend him highly enough!"

It was a great tour. Mossimo was very friendly and knowledgeable. We were in the express entry line to get into the Vatican museum and only had to wait about 10 minutes to enter. We booked the semi-private tour and were very glad we did. I would highly recommend this tour

The Vatican tour was truly amazing. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and kept the tour moving at a good pace. The museums were very interesting. I would definitely recommend going early in the morning as it does get crowded.

Super knowledgeable, helpful guide. Made accommodations for a slower elderly tourist, above and beyond,

Just absolutely amazing and beautiful. Early morning made it less crowded and we got to see more and hear our guide. Deborah with an H was so knowledgeable and friendly and funny. She made the Vatican more that it could ever be and that is saying a lot.

Well worth the money! Saves lots of time. We went in before the public. And had no line. Our guide, Franchesca, was excellent! He made sure everyone could see and hear well. His knowledge was beyond incredible. The lines with a ticket were horrendously long the day we were there. So pleased with this investment!

Vatican City is probably one of the most culturally rich places on the planet. If you are Catholic, as we are, the experience will be all the more deeper. The magnificence of the art and abundance of the collections are overwhelming at times. It really is quite stunning. If you can, take the small tour. My wife and I toured with a young woman named Lia. She was kind and very knowledgeable and truly loved the Vatican's heritage. This trip has been on the bucket list for a while, and it was well worth the wait. See it soon.

Our early morning Vatican visit by LivTours was a highlight of our trip to Rome. Our guide, Massimo, was informative, personable, and fun. The four hours seem to fly by as he highlighted the key points of interest at this historic majestic site. With the small group, he made each of us feel like a VIP. The presentation was engaging and the best tour that we had while in Italy. I would highly recommend LivTours and I will be using them exclusively on our future travel.

Francisco was an amazing tour guide! He is very dedicated, articulate, clear and concise on his communication skills! I heard many tour guides, but none better than Francisco!! He’s passionate about his work and takes great pride in this endeavor! What a great asset to LivTours!

This was not our first time visiting the Vatican Museum. Our tour guide, Jovanna, made this visit truly memorable. Her command of the subject material was clear as well as her passion for art and history. She moved us through the Map Room and into the Raphael Rooms, explaining why what we were looking at mattered. It almost felt like we were taking a class in art history.

Wonderful tour. Big Mama was our tour guide. Be prepared to walk alot and go up and down the stairs. Very insightful.

Francesca was an incredible tour guide. Her understanding and appreciation of art history was invaluable in taking us through the Vatican museum and the Sistine Chapel. She was patient, went above and beyond, and made our experience at the Vatican one we will never forget.

I highly recommend going to the early morning tour. Our guide was extremely informative. The Sistene Chapel and St. Peter’s Cathedral were stunning!

Viator uses a third-party LivTours. We got to the café meeting spot early, almost 15 minutes earlier than we were supposed to even try to be there. We looked and looked and looked for a sign couldn’t find anything. Finally we found someone and there was a huge line of people already standing in line waiting to get checked in with LivTours. I had no idea there would be so many people there that early in the morning for the tour. Had I known where we needed to be we would’ve been at the front of the line because we were looking and looking and looking and couldn’t find this little sign for the Tour company. Then we had to stand in a long line of about 200 people for the “first entry” access. We were starting to wonder why we paid over $200 for this tour. The line for regular entry was probably at least twice as long as our line. However, we were let in at the same time as all of the regular people. They don’t tell you that when you buy the tickets. When we got in our Guide Zenda, who was fabulous by the way, took us to a few places where there weren’t very many people. She started giving us information, which was very important and very good. And we went through saw the most important things in the museum. Then we went in the Sistine Chapel and got to sit and look at the ceiling and the walls, then she took us to Saint Peter’s Basilica and talked to us about that for a while. The tour ended at 11 AM. After we left Saint Peter’s Basilica, we saw a huge line of people waiting to get into the Basilica. There was at least 500 people. And we started to understand why we paid $200 to get in early in the morning. It is worth the price it just doesn’t seem like it when you’re there in the morning and there’s hundreds and hundreds of people waiting to get in at the same time as you and you think that you’re never going to be able to see everything because too many people will be there. It is crowded. There are lots of people, but we went during a time that it wasn’t so crowded and there was still many many people there. I do recommend paying the money to get in because after you’re done with all three of those you have the rest of the day to do other things. If you hadn’t done that, you’d spend the entire day standing in lines in the sun waiting to get in.
Can_O, Apr 2026
Definitely worth every penny and the early waking up. We had an enjoyable 2 hour period before Vatican started to get really crowded. Our guide Loretta made our tour very memorable and pleasant.

Tour made the experience at Vatican City unforgettable. David, our tour guide, was the perfect mixture of funny, entertaining and insightful. Could not recommend this tour enough. Thanks again David for such an amazing day!!

Very informative -worth the upgrade to a small group tour! Our guide, Emily, was fantastic! We were blown away.
Carol_A, Apr 2026
It’s great. You must be able to stand an walk for about 3-3.5 hours and walk up and down many stairs. Our guide was wonderful! She answered all our questions and was so knowledgeable. Her command of history was amazing!
Susan_W, Apr 2026
The early morning small group Vatican, Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s tour was personable and such a rich experience. Our Tour master Massimo was well experienced and knowledgeable weaving his humor and expert timing skills for us to get the most out of this special experience. I can’t express in words how moving this tour has been. We will be forever grateful to Massimo for sharing and caring in his special way.

A WONDERFUL tour experience with an exceptional guide, Giovanni. The tour felt more like a journey through centuries of art and culture
Donna_H, Apr 2026
Well planned. Great information and our guide Gaia was excellent. Highly recommend this tour and guide

Travelers know - the tour guide will make or break your experience. We were so lucky to have Maria from LivTours escorting us through Vatican City. I’m sure barely touch the surface of her knowledge about the stairs and art works in the museum. She amazingly eased us from one area to another despite the crowd. If you want to know religious/Catholic history and customs I would let the tour guide know. I think the guides may try to keep it art historical. Once I asked a couple of questions in the Vatican Maria was happy (and knowledgeable) to give more Papal and Catholic functions of The Basilica. I booked two Rome tours through Viator and each one was amazing.
paulaAndDennis_n, Apr 2026
Carlotta was an exceptional guide. Would rate her 50 stars vs only 5. She is extremely knowledgeable about historical events and artworks. Absolutely delightful to spend several hours with. We enjoyed every minute.
