Spend an afternoon at the American landing beaches with our WWII expert. Rodolphe Rutman, who will accompany you, brings to life the events of the battle of Normandy, using his knowledge of the subject acquired over more than 30 years of private research. He has been connected to the events of June 6 1944, since the 50th anniversary of D-Day, in 1994. That year, he assisted a group of 41 American veteran paratroopers who came to perform a commemorative jump near Sainte-mère-église. Afterwards, Rodolphe became a filmmaker specialising in history. He has directed 4 TV documentary films about D-Day which were broadcast internationally. This enabled him to interview more than 200 people who witnessed the events of summer 1944, including 13 American veterans who landed on Omaha Beach. Today, he lives in Normandy and likes to share his passion for this subject by leading visits to memorial sites. The drive from the aforementioned locations to Falaise takes approximately 45'. This is the fuller version of the ride: everything in the shorter tour, extended west along the cliffs to Pointe du Hoc, and finished with a cider tasting in the Norman countryside. We start, as always, at Bayeux Cathedral, consecrated in 1077 before William the Conqueror, then head out on backroads no coach can reach, to Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, where 9,387 crosses and Stars of David stand across 172 acres above the bluffs. From the cemetery, the route turns west along a quiet cliff path — the Channel on one side, the ground Allied troops once crossed on the other — to Pointe du Hoc, where bomb craters and shattered bunkers still mark the cliffs the U.S. Rangers scaled under fire. An amazing day spent touring some important D-Day sites in Normandy. Our guide Audrey was great. She picked us up in a comfortable van in the morning at our AirBNB and spent more than 8 hours with us, providing us with plenty of time at each of the locations we visited. She was kind and knowledgable, and the fact that she grew up nearby helped inform her perspective and provided an even stronger connection to the experience.

An Unforgettable Journey Through D-Day History

Our 1½-day D-Day tour was one of the highlights of our trip to France. We visited the American Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, and Omaha Beach, and every stop was both moving and unforgettable. Victor was an outstanding guide—extremely knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about the history he was sharing. As a lifelong history buff, visiting Normandy has been on my bucket list since I was in high school back in the late 1970s. After all those years, having that dream finally come true exceeded every expectation. Standing on Omaha Beach and walking the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc where the U.S. Army Rangers scaled the cliffs brought history to life in a way no book or documentary ever could. Visiting the American Cemetery was an emotional experience that I'll never forget. Victor's storytelling, historical insight, and ability to connect the events of June 6, 1944, with the places we were standing made the experience incredibly informative and memorable. Rangers Lead the Way! If you're considering a Normandy tour, don't hesitate. It was worth every minute and every penny, and Victor helped make a lifelong dream a reality.

The half day tour included 3 stops and they were incredible. Our tour guide, Lucy, not only had beautiful, long fingernails and could park on a dime, but she was so pleasant and knowledgeable!! Be prepared. It is a steady upward climb toward the top. But well worth the effort. We loved this tour. We learned so much of the history of Mont St Michel. It was a very hot day and lots of people but we could still enjoy the tour. Walking back to visitor center (our choice) was a hot 45 minute ordeal but it was good to see the abbey from the road.

Very informative, relatively short tour giving insight into key portions of the D-Day landings. Not for someone wanting a deep dive into the event, but excellent for a half-day overview with a well-informed guide showing you critical aspects of the event.
