What are people saying about Rio de Janeiro

Clouds and rain? They're illegal in Rio. Aren't they...?
The helicopter base was an hour's taxi ride away, and I wasn't expecting that. I should've checked in advance but didn't...so fair warning everyone else! When I got there - just in time - I was asked if I wanted a cold drink or maybe a beer? I opted for the beer (I was on holiday after all and not driving the thing, so why not?).
I also opted for the extra video they make of the journey, which is e-mailed to you about 5 days later. So given that I had paid for a VIP flight, and bought the extra video offer, I was a little surprised to also be charged for the beer! And so to the flight itself.
Well, it's at that point that you realise that Rio is just like any city anywhere on the planet. It too is subject to the vagaries of the weather. Every day for the last six months, in my mind this one day, this one particular half-hour was bathed in glorious sunshine. But it could be so different. Too cloudy, too wet, too windy, too anything...And today, right now...was none of those things. It was as if I had placed a weather-order with the Redeemer him/her/itself. Rio and the weather working hand-in-hand to deliver my long-held weather expectation. Across that panoramic perfection rode one helicopter and two insignificant passengers who may have been thinking different things about their forthcoming trip, but not that they would soon be silently and reverentially acknowledging the imperial majesty of Nature and Humans to bring us, well...this.
A planet we could exist on, the luck that would allow us to develop and live this long, and the vision that would allow one person to say, "I've got this crazy idea. What I want to do is put a statue of Christ - right there...", and the vision that would allow another person to say, "Eh...OK" And they did. Then my wife and I came along. We took some pics. Shot a video or two. Ipanema, Copacabana, Cristo.
Minds so exstatically blown. Grateful to everyone for everything.
So yeah, it was OK. We'd do it again.

A memorable experience - a MUST DO whilst in Rio
This is a MUST-DO whilst in Rio! I must preface this by saying the pre-flight experience left much to be desired but don't let this put you off booking. We arrived on time 15 minutes prior to our 1230pm booking, as stated in the confirmation email. The receptionist seemed surprised to see us and clearly wasn’t expecting us. She couldn’t find any reference to our booking, which was frustrating as 1) we were obviously excited about this holiday highlight event and 2) we’d travelled nearly an hour from central Rio by taxi to get there. Eventually a phone call seemed to suggest they did in fact have the booking. A different woman anrrived and said that although the booking said 12.30pm, it was actually 1pm as we had to undergo a half hour of induction. Odd as induction comprised filling in a few forms and took 5 minutes. We were left with the sense that they have somehow forgotten our booking. We ended up getting taken to the helicopter about 45 minutes after our appt time. It felt a bit micky mouse-ish and we just hopped this wasn’t going to be reflected in the quality of the helicopter and pilot. Fortunately, the actual flight itself was brilliant and we had a fabulous pilot who was determined that we would be able to see Christ the Redeemer despite the cloud cover so made quite a few attempts to get us up close. On the last attempt, the clouds parted and we got great views and photos. The flight was definitely a highlight of our South America travels so go ahead and book but maybe check ahead that your booking is expected.

Fun, informative, great guide David
Great tour. The guide David was friendly, fun, and informative. He spoke three languages fluently (that I heard). Just advice for people booking, it is a long tour day so I advise packing a little bag you can leave on the bus of stuff for yourself (water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a snack, etc). Sugarloaf mountain was beautiful.

Don’t miss this!
Perfect summer evening! Lovely attentive and friendly staff, who took such excellent care of us! From providing sunscreen (which we accidentally forgot) to the flowing drinks, to towels after the dip in the ocean, to blankets when it got a bit cool the last 20 min following sunset, everything was perfect! Thank you Sail Rio!

A Must
The door less helicopter tour over Rio de was, without question, one of the most exhilarating and awe-inspiring experiences of my life. From the very first lift-off to the final descent, everything about this tour was flawless.
Soaring high above the sparkling Atlantic Ocean without doors on the helicopter, the warm breeze rushing in, and the city’s iconic beauty unfolding beneath us — it felt like a dream. Flying right past the majestic Christ the Redeemer, close enough to see the serene expression on his face, was something I’ll never forget. The pilot circled slowly, giving us a perfect, unobstructed view of the statue towering over the city — it felt sacred, surreal, and powerful all at once.
And then there’s Sugarloaf Mountain, rising like a sentinel from the sea. As we curved around it with nothing but air between us and the earth below, the perspective was simply mind-blowing. The views stretched from the vibrant neighborhoods of Rio to the golden curves of Copacabana and Ipanema beaches — the colors, the contrast, the sheer drama of the landscape was overwhelming in the best way.
The staff and crew were outstanding — professional, safety-conscious, and also incredibly warm and friendly. They made us feel at ease and totally prepared, even with the adrenaline of flying doorless.
But the true magic? It’s that feeling of freedom — legs dangling out of a helicopter, ocean breeze in your face, the whole city at your feet. It’s Rio like you’ve never seen it before — wild, elegant, and alive.
If you’re looking for something truly extraordinary in Rio de Janeiro, this open-door helicopter tour is it. It’s not just a tour — it’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment that will leave you breathless, humbled, and completely in love with this incredible city.
10/10 — Worth every second, every penny, every heartbeat.

Not seeing something you are looking for?
Rio de Janeiro is visibly striking from just about every angle, but one of the best ways to take in the city’s scenery is from the air. Rio de Janeiro helicopter tours give you a birds-eye view of its world-famous beaches and landmarks. The tours are small-group by nature since helicopters have limited seats, so you’re guaranteed panoramic views from your seat.
