Top Malaysia How to Get Around in 2026

Ipoh is one of Malaysia's great food cities, but many of its best dishes are hidden behind unassuming shopfronts and local institutions you'd struggle to uncover alone. Over four hours and 15+ tastings, we'll eat from Little India to historic Old Town, following the flavours left behind by the city's extraordinary tin-mining boom. Expect southern Indian breakfasts, silky kai see hor fun, spice-loaded nasi kandar, Hainanese chicken, famously crisp Ipoh bean sprouts, smoky pork satay and icy cendol, all led by a local tastemaker who knows where to find the good stuff. This isn't a generic Malaysian food crawl. It's the story of Ipoh, told through the communities and dishes that made the city one of the country's most underrated places to eat.

Ipoh's food scene doesn't belong to one neighbourhood or one cuisine. Over four hours and 15+ tastings, we'll cross from the historic Chinese centre into vibrant Little India, following the communities whose food transformed an old tin-mining town into one of Malaysia's great eating cities. Expect flaky kaya puffs, silky noodles, Hainanese chicken, famously crisp Ipoh bean sprouts and smoky satay before switching gears for toddy and a full banana-leaf feast eaten by hand. In one evening, we’ll tackle two very different sides of Ipoh, connected by the food and migration stories that built the city.
