From rugged coastline to fairytale houses, this full day excursion of eastern Madeira is a showcase of everything that makes the island so special. You'll discover the historic towns of Machico and Santana as well as the natural gems of Ponta da Rosto and Pico do Areiro. There's also a levada walk and traditional lunch to look forward to. From here, we'll make our way to the lookout points of Ponta do Rosto and Portela. It's then time for an authentic, freshly prepared lunch in a local family-run restaurant in Santana – a town famed for its triangular homes, which look like gingerbread houses. Gonçalo says, ‘These homes are unique to Santana. They're made of stone with thatched roofs – which are replaced every three years – that reach almost to the ground. Mostly built in the 16th century, attics were used to store seeds.' The great outdoors take centre stage in the afternoon, with a trip to Ribeiro Frio Natural Park. You'll get to walk along a stretch of the Levada dos Balcões

Begin your day in the Funchal old town with a visit to a historic fortress and panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Continue along mountain roads offering impressive panoramas before reaching Caniço and the famous Cristo Rei. Then head to the interior of the island towards Camacha to visit local arts and crafts. Continue to Machico, where you can stroll through the historic center, visit a local fortress, and discover the imported sand beach. Next, head to Ponta de São Lourenço to admire its unique volcanic landscapes and view of Porto Santo. After that, head to Porto da Cruz to visit a traditional Madeira rum distillery and discover an important part of the local heritage. A break is also planned at a panoramic swing offering spectacular views of the east of the island, ideal for memorable photos. The tour continues to Faial and Santana to discover the famous traditional thatched-roof houses. At the end of the day, stop at the Aguage waterfalls to enjoy a peaceful natural setting

We start the excursion towards Camacha village for a visit to the Crafts Factory and the Wicker Bazaar. Then, we climbed Poiso towards Pico do Arieiro (1810 meters), this being the third highest peak on Madeira Island. We go down to Ribeiro Frio where you can visit a trout pond as well as admire an important part of Madeira's Laurissilva Forest (world heritage). We continue to Santana, known for its famous thatched houses. Stop for lunch (not included). After lunch, we pass through the Porto da Cruz area and continue to Ponta de São Lourenço. In a last stop, we make a brief visit to Pico do Facho from where we can observe the city of Machico and Ponta de São Lourenço. On January 1st and December 25th there are no excursions.
