A National Park, Charyn Canyon is made up of sedimentary rocks that are millions of years old. Close to the Chinese border, the park spans 154 kilometers with distinctive cliffs, such as the Valley of Castles, the Witch’s Gorge, and the Ghost's Gorge.

We will start our trip in the morning from your hotel. Drive will take approximately 3 hours. Museum-reserve is located on the vast territory with hills, canyons and rocks. There are 6 groups of petroglyphs of different eras. We will observe all of them. Just imagine - you will have chance to learn the art and at the same time documents of people who lived here hundreds and thousands years ago!

Want to visit mountain spots close to Almaty? We will do 1km trekking to the waterfall and enjoy the view of the peaks. You will need good shoes and mood to do this activity. You are welcome to Issyk lake that is located in the Tian-Shan mountains in Ile-Alatau national park. Here we can do some picnic with the lake view. Charyn Canyon is often compared to the Grand Canyon in the USA, although it is smaller in size, it is not inferior in beauty. It is about 12 million years old and is a veritable encyclopedia of geology. The colorful rocks and bizarre shapes of the rocks were formed due to millions of years of erosion and the movement of waters. Charyn Canyon is one of the most impressive natural wonders of Kazakhstan, located about 200 km east of Almaty. This natural monument stretches along the Charyn River for 154 kilometers, striking with its unique beauty and geological diversity. The main attraction of the canyon is the “Valley of Castles", a section about 2 km long, where the rocks resemble bizarre architectural structures. These shapes, created by wind, water and time, amaze the imagination and create the feeling of walking through an ancient stone city. Charyn Canyon is a place where nature tells its story, written by wind, water and time.

Visit two of Kazakhstan’s most impressive natural sites on an easy private day tour from Almaty. After an early morning pickup from your hotel, head to ancient Charyn Canyon, where you can admire the views and take a short (1.8-mile/3-kilometer) hike. In the afternoon, head to Kolsai Lake, which has beautiful reflective views of the Tien Shan Mountains. This is a must-do tour for nature lovers.

At 6:00 AM, a comfortable jeep/SUV will pick you up directly from your hotel, and we’ll head to Kolsai Lake. The drive takes about 4 h (approx 300 km). Along the way, you’ll see steppe landscapes, mountains, and authentic village life.We’ll spend a couple of hours at the lake. Lunch is optional at Tary, offering panoramic views over the water. Next, we’ll drive to Lake Kaindy (15 min by car). From the parking area, it’s an easy 15-min walk to the lake. If you prefer not to walk, you can ride a horse or take a UAZ vehicle (2000 tenge). After that, we continue to Charyn Canyon (100 km, 2.5 hours). We’ll arrive just in time for sunset. Enjoy golden hour views from above and take a ride in an improvised safari vehicle (1,800 tenge). The drive back to the city takes about 3 hours. You’ll be dropped off at your hotel around 8:00 PM. Optional extra costs: horse ride, UAZ transfer, restaurant, safari vehicle. This is the only desert park in Kazakhstan, where you can see many different landscapes: sands, tugai forests, floodplains, conditions, mountains.
