Beautiful university tour
This was a great tour to have done with an extra day in Porto. I took a bus during the morning to Coimbra, and made it in time for the start of the tour. Renan was my guide, and being a local that had attended the university there in Coimbra, he was perfect to show me around and explain the history of the university. The library was incredible. Definitely consider this tour if you have some
Extra time in Porto.

Excellent Tour of Coimbra University
We were fortunate to be the only couple led by Sara Cruz, who was a thoughtful, well informed, and personable guide. As a former law student at Coimbra University, she provided humorous anecdotes about student life and a wealth of historical knowledge about the University and the town of Coimbra itself. While we weren’t able to spend much time in the fabled Library nor take any photos, Sara was able to make the most of the situation by pointing out interesting aspects of the books, the vault, and the history. Sara exceeded our high expectations and we would recommend her and the tour highly.

Morning tour of Schist Villages
We had an enjoyable morning touring the Schist Villages with our guide Alfredo. Alfredo was very knowledgeable about the region and its history. He was also good navigating the steep and windy roads! The villages are stunning and a look into how past peoples lived and of course many of the cottages are being restored and are able to be rented. We stopped at our final village and ordered espresso and the local liquor before heading back to Coimbra. Fun morning!

This was a really great...
This was a really great tour. Renan is an excellent guide who speaks excellent English. Extremely knowledgeable in the history of the area and also of Portugal. He is very funny and animated, and also tells fun stories about the people and the area. I would highly recommend this tour. I use Viator throughout the world for tours and only once did they fall short. They instantly refunded me the money.

Conimbriga - excellent tour and guide!
The tour was excellent. Our guide Alfredo provided so much great information and explanation of the Roman ruins site at Conímbriga and the museums we visited. If we had visited the ruins on our own, we would not have known the richness and intricacies of the experience. It was definitely a five-star experience!

Perfect way to learn Fatima
This is a wonderful way to see Fatima and learn all the spiritual history about the Blessed Mother and the apparitions. Not only do you see the basilicas, but you also visit the village the children were from along with their homes. Rita is an excellent and knowledgeable guide who gave me and my mother an amazing tour!

A cold day at the convent
On a cold day, the convent was freezing! But the tour was worth it. Our guide Sara was well versed on the history and special characteristics of the multiple structures. There was lots to see - indoors and outside - and just enough places to get warm for a few minutes. So glad we didn’t miss it.

Walking Tour in Tamar, Portugal
Mark is an excellent tour guide who knows Tamar inside out. Very knowledgeable and flexible in his approach to adapting the walking tour to our needs and interests. Gave us fascinating info on the Knights Templar, etc., and the vagaries of life in Portugal through the ages.

History, Fado, and Roast Pig with José
We joined José’s walking was a real highlight. A former Coimbra University student, José brought the city and its traditions to life with stories that mixed history, culture, and his own student experiences, making it all feel very human and real.
He also introduced us to Coimbra Fado, a more soulful, less melancholy version of Portugal’s traditional fado, unique to the city.
We wandered through Coimbra’s steep hills and narrow streets, ending in the peaceful Botanic Gardens (which made us very happy!). Before we parted ways, José even gave us a great local tip on where to try roast suckling pig. Lunch sorted.
Highly recommend if you want to see the real Coimbra through local eyes.

Coimbra tour
Our tour with João was absolutely fantastic! As an art history graduate from Coimbra, he brought incredible depth, passion, and knowledge to the experience. He was not only informative but also engaging and entertaining throughout the tour. We highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Coimbra—it’s a must!

If you're interested in the Templar Knights, this is a fantastic tour! Get Ana for your guide!
Ana was our tour guide and she was fantastic! She gave the complete history of the Templar Knights better than I could learn from the History Channel. What an upbeat and interesting guide. If you like history, and have ever wondered about the Templars, this is a great tour to experience. Ana is passionate about history and will show you all her favorite spots at the Convent of Christ and will help you out with photos too! Just a pleasant, interesting and beautiful tour all around. Thank you Ana! My sister and I enjoyed the tour!
