Extremely informative
The tour lasted 3 hours, so wear comfortable shoes . There’s a few hills, so make sure you can handle inclines. Our guide Enildo was very informative and professional. He walked at a comfortable pace and shared so many facts about Fatima and the three shepherds. Details were shared about the homes and countryside, trees, and food. We learned so many new facts that we never knew. Highly recommend this tour.

Excellent afternoon in the schists!
Gorgeous landscapes up in the mountains near Coimbra! Alfredo was an informed and pleasant guide who drove us the whole way, talking to us about the land, people, recent fire, how the villages are being transformed, etc. Definitely wear good outdoor shoes (not sandals) to climb all the staircases (as many or little as you want) to explore the winding pathways of the villages. We stopped in a little cafe up there, also at an artists shoppe, and were completely on time of four hours. Excellent pictures taken and a reprieve from the museums, buildings, traffic, tourists in town. Lovely!

Excellent Tour - Must do
Renan is a passionate, knowledgeable, and friendly guide that provided a detailed overview of the history of Portugal, Coimbra, the University, and insights into the monument itself. Our group of four had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend this tour.

Eva’s Outstanding Tour
Eva did an outstanding job sharing her love of her Alma mater. The library actually brought tears to my eyes. Such a unique campus. Eva has extensive knowledge of both the university and Portugal in general. She knows all the people who work on the campus and they clearly have respect for her. We moved through the sites efficiently but never felt rushed. Eva had answers to all our questions. I highly recommend her tour

This was a really great...
This was a really great tour. Renan is an excellent guide who speaks excellent English. Extremely knowledgeable in the history of the area and also of Portugal. He is very funny and animated, and also tells fun stories about the people and the area. I would highly recommend this tour. I use Viator throughout the world for tours and only once did they fall short. They instantly refunded me the money.

Conimbriga - excellent tour and guide!
The tour was excellent. Our guide Alfredo provided so much great information and explanation of the Roman ruins site at Conímbriga and the museums we visited. If we had visited the ruins on our own, we would not have known the richness and intricacies of the experience. It was definitely a five-star experience!

A cold day at the convent
On a cold day, the convent was freezing! But the tour was worth it. Our guide Sara was well versed on the history and special characteristics of the multiple structures. There was lots to see - indoors and outside - and just enough places to get warm for a few minutes. So glad we didn’t miss it.

Walking Tour in Tamar, Portugal
Mark is an excellent tour guide who knows Tamar inside out. Very knowledgeable and flexible in his approach to adapting the walking tour to our needs and interests. Gave us fascinating info on the Knights Templar, etc., and the vagaries of life in Portugal through the ages.

History, Fado, and Roast Pig with José
We joined José’s walking was a real highlight. A former Coimbra University student, José brought the city and its traditions to life with stories that mixed history, culture, and his own student experiences, making it all feel very human and real.
He also introduced us to Coimbra Fado, a more soulful, less melancholy version of Portugal’s traditional fado, unique to the city.
We wandered through Coimbra’s steep hills and narrow streets, ending in the peaceful Botanic Gardens (which made us very happy!). Before we parted ways, José even gave us a great local tip on where to try roast suckling pig. Lunch sorted.
Highly recommend if you want to see the real Coimbra through local eyes.

Coimbra tour
Our tour with João was absolutely fantastic! As an art history graduate from Coimbra, he brought incredible depth, passion, and knowledge to the experience. He was not only informative but also engaging and entertaining throughout the tour. We highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Coimbra—it’s a must!
