Jude gook us and three...

Jude took us and three others to the Westhaven Marina; the Kauri Glen Reserve where we walked on a boardwalk through a dense forest of protected trees; Maungawhau, the volcanic cone of Mount Eden; and the Auckland Domain Wintergardens, which had a large gorgeous greenhouse full of seasonal flowers in bloom and even vegetables! It was a great way to learn about Auckland between the time we debarked from our cruise ship and when our early evening flight left for the USA. Jude had a lot of interesting things to say about the areas we drove through and was willing to answer any questions we had. The tour was definitely worth it and Jude was a great guide.

We enjoyed this trip from the moment Aaron picked up Us at the hotel. While driving he gave us many informations about NZ, its population, vegetation, food, great places to visit. The all day was well organized with the right time at each place. The discovery of geysers and of the Māori culture will stay a great memory.

It's important to say we are not welded on fans of the Rings or Hobbits and on the day we went the rain bucketed down. What effect did all that have? None. What a wonderful day we had from the moment we were picked up by Nelson, to the far too excellent bakery we stopped at on the way, to the really excellent visit to the caverns and glow worms of Waitomo with Bubba, to the crowning glory of the visit to Hobbiton. This was an exceptional experience and we haven't stopped boring people with our memories and recommendations since. If you do nothing else in NZ make sure you find time for this PRECIOUS day. And don't worry about the early morning start you can sleep on the bus if you must. Thanks to everyone involved in making this a wonderful journey.

Fantastic experience. From Aaron's picking us up and sharing so much along the way, including when we stopped for coffee and a bathroom break, to Spellbound's Peter guiding us through the caves and sharing so much detailed information about the worms, how to take good pictures, and more. We got picked up at 7:45, and were back by 5:30, so it is a long day, but very well done in every aspect. There was water and snacks on the bus out there, a stop between caves for coffee or tea and cookies, and then a stop to walk around and get some lunch or fruit at the fruit stand, all with bathroom stops at the same time as well. All went well, never felt like we were somewhere too long or too short. The only thing I guess could serve as a warning is that the 11 passenger bus is ok, but the seats are fairly small, so if you are large in stature, you will be uncomfortable, but not terribly so. With driving that much, it could have been worse, and the views out the big windows were great.

Worth every penny!

This is an amazing trip! Our driver gave us lots of history and information on the drive to the Hopperton movie set. Our driver, Andy, was very personable and knowledgeable. We felt very safe in his care, and the entire day ran on schedule. Once we were there, the sat is magical! It was better than we expected… I highly recommend it. Then we went onto the Waitomo worm caves, which were also amazing. You’re not allowed to take pictures inside, unfortunately. I would highly recommend this excursion, it’s well worth the money.

Never Seen the Movie, but Enjoyed the Odyssey to Hobbiton

It was a great 12 hour tour that even if you’re not a fan of the movie trilogy, you will definitely be pleased and entertained. Our driver Simon was an excellent tour guide who was courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable about New Zealand’s history and sites. He drove us through wonderful countryside settings that gave you a contrast between Auckland city sites and what is in the area just a few hours outside of the city. The lunch items that you can choose from are plentiful and delicious. He even managed to work in a morning coffee break that you could also pick up coffee, a danish or breakfast sandwich on the drive to Hobbiton. The only thing to be aware of that when you tour the glow worm caves after lunch, is that they do not allow photography or videotaping. The approximately 50 minute tour of the caves and boat ride out of the caves is very informative about the life of a glow worm and how the caves came to be discovered and created. Still worth the price of the ticket. Simon also provided countryside driving on the way back to Auckland and we managed to stop for refreshments of fine New Zealand homemade ice cream. I would say this is well worth your consideration and Cheeky Kiwi is first class in their operation. On my return trip to New Zealand I will definitely be booking tours through them.

The tour was a full day but well worth it. We had enough rest stops and good food stops. The glow worms and Maui cultural area tours were both excellent. Our guide, Dave, was excellent. He addressed everyone’s needs and provided all with information relative to our excursions.

Incredible experience made special by our tour guide Jeoff!

The Hobbiton visit and experience was amazing. It was awe-inspiring to see where they filmed one of the best movies ever made. But our tour guide, Jeoff, made it extra special. He was nice and kind and gave us tons of insight about New Zealand and gave us recommendations on what places to visit. He came prepared with snacks and water and made sure everyone was comfortable during the ride. He also accommodated anyone that needed to use the restroom and even made a pit stop for ice cream on the way home, which was icing on the cake. Highly recommend using Cheeky Kiwi for this tour or any other tour in New Zealand!

The Guide and Driver both knew their stuff and we’re willing to share it personally. It seemed like they truly cared and knew each of us in the bus for the day. Dolhpins by the dozen

A perfect day on a very good boat for watching sea life. The guides were all degreed in dolphins etc and used the tour to gather scientific data on what we saw. Following bird signs in the huge bay, we found two huge pods of dolphins who played for us in the bow pressure wave in clear waters. They estimated one pod at 80 including a baby and we had easily a dozen playing right under our feet in the twin bows of the catamaran. In between sightings were video lectures on what we were seeing and the scientific studies in the bay. For those who wanted a snack, the galley had a variety of foods. Viewing indoors and out had the weather not been so beautiful.

What an adventure

The drive from Aukland to the Hobbiton Movie Set is about 2 and half hours. You will have an opportunity to buy Souvenirs at the beginning .. get them while you can because you don't come back to the souvenir shop. You get back on the bus and drive to the Shire where you are guided by an expert employed by the Hobbiton Movie Set. Your tour is strictly timed as they are trying to put 2500 people through in a day and not have everyone tripping over each other or getting in each other's way. It is an absolutely amazing experience and as long as everyone is cooperative, it will go smoothly. Each group is about 46 people. There's so much to see .. and there's a lot of hills. It is not for wheelchairs, not for anyone using a walker, or have mobility issues.
