The icy fishing tour came empty handed. The guide was friendly and shared interest information and stories about Yellowknife, hence we still had fun time overall.
This tour led me to the next Aurora Viewing Tour with Tina and Ivy who are super fun and friendly with greatest hospitality. They both made sure we have wonderful time, great photos and priceless memories. 10 out of 10. A big shout to both Tina and Ivy.
Highly recommend to go with the company on this small group Aurora tour with more customized services.

We got to jig fish in the heated colour huts and it was such a great experience to be sheltered from the cold. I could fish without my gloves on and it was pretty warm because there was a fire going for the stove. Outside was -35 C that day so I was so happy to be inside a hut. I didn't catch any fish but my partner almost caught a fish but it got away. They still feed you a yummy fish lunch! I had a fun time though just trying to fish and being out on the lake! Our guide Sai was very knowledgable and cooked up such an incredible fish lunch for us!

Fishing is all about luck. If you have it, no need for skill or practice. Fun and easy activity for school age kids. Charming (and warm) huts with excellent staff overseeing the activity. Delicious fish lunch and hot drinks provided. A comfortable way to experience ice fishing.

A guided experience should be led by a person with expertise and the right equipment. Our guide had neither. We failed to catch any fish because the service failed to provide the proper tackle for catching northern pike. Excuses were made and after talking with other locals and reading regulations, the excuses were just that. For the money spent on the excursion I would never book with this company. We did have fun, the food was good and our guide was a very nice person. But if a proper guide and equipment were provided we would have caught fish, rather than having the pike break four lines.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
I am sorry you did not have a good experience. The lines we use are to catch most common weight fish, however there are some large fish in the lake as well. Reel in too fast may result in lines breaking on larger fish.
Many other guests catch multiple fish using the same equipment.

The guide of our day is so kind and helpful and he is so cheerful chatting with us all along.
He explained a lot about ice fishing and some related fun facts that makes the activity not only fun to engage for a fishing lover, but also knowledgeable as a visitor.
He even brought me a birthday cake once he know it is my birthday and that warms my hear so much.
Overall, total recommendation on joining the activity.

Good value, great experience! Sai took care of us! Very friendly, cooked us lunch of pan fried fish that was delicious. Sai is quite a character! Caught a whitefish within minutes. Do recommend taking some disposable gloves with which to bait the hook so that your winter gloves don’t get a fishy smell that can linger!
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you for sharing your experiences. We have gloves for guests to use to hold the fish, please ask the guides for them.

This was our first time experiencing ice fishing. The fishing hut was clean and warm and our host, Willie, provided us with very interesting stories about life as an Inuit. The lunch was OK. We were lucky to catch a pike. All in all, it was a fun, peaceful and informative tour.

The tour bus pick-up was right from the place we stayed at in Yellowknife. The ride to the lake took about 30 min. The fishing shack was well heated with a wood stove and had tea/coffee supplies in it. Our host Willie was great. He is from the Eskimo Nation and showed us pictures of his predecessors, who were fishermen, as well as of his hamlet Ulukhaktok. Willie was very knowledgable about fishing and his assistant prepared for us a delicious lunch from fried fresh fish (inconnu). Highly recommended!!!
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you for sharing your experiences. Willie is an Inuit from mid eastern Nunavut.

The fish meal was delicious, and the service was excellent and attentive. The room was nice and warm, and the staff gave a detailed explanation of fishing tips. With a bit of luck, you might even catch a fish yourself. The Indigenous people were very friendly, and their fishing skills were truly impressive.

Thank You for an Unforgettable Ice Fishing Experience
Dear Leon,
I had the wonderful opportunity to go ice fishing with you and your team, and I must say it was an absolutely incredible experience. You have an excellent group of people working with you—everyone is so kind, gentle, and genuinely dedicated to making sure the experience is as enjoyable as possible. Their hospitality and commitment to ensuring comfort are truly remarkable.
The food we enjoyed, especially the fish, was absolutely delicious. I spent two hours fishing, and it was such a pleasant and memorable experience. I nearly caught a big fish! The team mentioned it might have been one with large teeth, as it managed to cut the fishing line and escape. While I didn’t catch it, the thrill of the moment added to an already extraordinary experience.
I wholeheartedly recommend this activity to anyone—it’s a unique adventure that I thoroughly enjoyed. The human touch and the quality of service your team provides make it even more special.
I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Leon, Moo, and everyone else who made me feel so welcome and comfortable, as if I were at home. You were all so kind, and I truly appreciate it.
Thank you so much, and may God bless you all. Wishing you all the best.
Warm regards,
Ervin

Pickup and dropoff at our hotel was prompt and easy.
The ride out onto the ice in a sleigh was fun too!
We sat in a heated tent on the ice with fishing poles in a hole, just like you'd imagine.
They fed us a meal of fried fish with a roll and potato salad that was yummy.
We really enjoyed it!

We had to wait for about an hour at the meeting point.
Three of my friends participated, and three of us shared one fishing rod and one fishing hole.
There were a couple of fishing huts, but they didn't let me open a new one, and my rod was broken.
For lunch, we served raw-grilled fish.
The response of the staff is not good.
You can catch fish, but you can't take it home.
I was so shocked and sorry because I was expecting it.

I am sorry you did not have a good experience. This was a result of miscommunication. We had a cabin made inoperable by a guest the day prior to your tour, and the afternoon tour you originally booked became oversold as a result. We asked guests if they can be moved to the morning tour instead. Some guests were able to move and your response was "if no one else move, we can move". This from our point of view is that you do not wish to change schedule. Also we did not send out a confirmation email. From our prospective you were scheduled for the afternoon tour. When you called us in the morning asking for pick up. The bus was already full so we had to send another smaller vehicle to get you which resulted in delays. When you got to the cabins there were enough fishing holes and rods for all three of you but since you were late, you would have to be separated into different cabins. The lunch was served was liked by all other guests.
Again I am sorry you did not have a good experience.
Li_Y, Mar 2026
If you're free, you can participate, but you don't have to bother.
The chances of catching a fish are low, and they didn't give me much guidance on tricks.
It may still be good if you talk slowly with your friends without expecting it.
I felt bored.

I am sorry you did not have a good experience. Fishing is not for everyone, it takes luck, skill and patience. Guest are experiencing ice fishing from a heated cabin on top of a frozen lake, not shooting fish inside a barrel. Guides will always instruct guests on fishing techniques, but it is up to the guests to continue to jig to attract the fish (patience) and pull the fish out of the water (skill).
